I would actually be interested in one of these as a very portable laptop for light work, but not at $1200.

and lets not forget 15% cpu performance boost, 25% gpu boost, faster ssd, faster ram, 1 more hour battery.. overall i think we see a nice improvement for the same price.

Why do I need this since I have the laptop replacement (ipad pro 9.7)?

That is funny! According to Apple you do not, since like you said the iPad Pro 9.7 with keyboard is a laptop replacement. :)

A 14 inch version with 12 hour battery would be awesome.

Majority of people choose the 13 inch Air over the 11 inch Air, and I think they're missing out on a huge portion of the market.

The 13 inch MacBook Air is regarded as the greatest laptop ever made, with no worthy successor in the market right now :(

ipad pro is for those users who still on their over 5 years old pc.
this Macbook is brand new beauty

As noted above, this puts the new 1.2 GHz Skylake rMB just ahead of the 2015 MBA on CPU power and I believe the HD515 GPU is just behind the HD6000 GPU from the MBA so gaming performance will be a bit worse.
And just behind the 2.4ghz i5 late 2013 13" rMBP that's still my daily driver.

I get that this is light and all, but the CPU and GPU performance remains massively underwhelming.

Maybe that's fine for some, I dunno. I wouldn't step back in power from a 3 year old laptop that was only mid/high end in 2013.

The reality is this is a perfectly fine option to recommend to family members.

I just struggle to see where I would recommend this over the cheaper Air. Retina display but weaker graphics, slower CPU, less battery life and the 12" Macbook costs $100 more than the 13" Air with the same RAM and Flash Storage...what's to like?

I thought the Skylake chip in the new MacBook would be a better performer. It's still a dog slow computer. Security and OS updates will take forever like they do with the first gen new Macbook. Disappointed. Hoping for a new 13" MBP at WWDC.

TB3 would require re-architecturing of the motherboard - an additional chip - since it isn't supported natively on Skylake. Apple wouldn't go so far out of their way for it during a silent refresh, especially given their pride on the size and efficiency, and probably doesn't mind waiting until Kaby.

Take a look at the logic board in the Macbook and tell me where you would put the TB controller. I'll wait.

If you find a spot for it, tell me how you'd power it too, given how thirsty it is.

Doesn't make it any less mind boggling that it doesn't have TB3. And FWIW HP's new Spectre laptop -- allegedly the thinnest in the world does have TB 3 so there is that. I'm no HP fan, but from an engineering perspective don't say it's not possible because HP did, albeit with a different CPU. Yes, Apple never designed for TB3 with this iteration. Again, $1600 is a lot of money for a computer with a lot of other things missing. It's got panache, but in a Porsche 944 kind of way.

u cant compare a V8 with a V12, both from present. If you need a MBP than buy the new MBP

It's "new" dude, didn't you get the memo?

thin but wider...so it more space for motherboard...issue with the space for motherboard is the length not the thickness. And boy, plz buy your new spectre...after 10 min at paris...i sayd Apple is know what is doing, and they are still the perfect balance from perf per inch per construction point of view

480p camera on a retina display is just bonkers.

Hi, Kilamite-

With all due respect, please be grateful I even included a camera in the MacBook. It's still an iSight camera with our outstanding software. You will be very happy to experience full FaceTime HD on the gorgeous 12" Retina display.

Sincerely,
Tim Cook

We have to blame Intel and not Apple for this. The tick tock cycle is changing per Intel.

So we blame Intel for Apple not using a proper Core i processor, making this so thin it cannot accommodate one and pricing it about 30-40% of what it's actually worth? GTFO.

The fact that they haven't dropped the price on these is weird. The Apple Watch sucks and they dropped the price on it, as they should have. This MacBook is a joke. I mean the entire reboot. MacBooks were for the more budget conscious person. Someone that didn't need Pro specs. I would choose any Windows laptop over this thing... Any day of the week. This is weaker than a Zenbook. I would pay around 7-8 bills for this and that's it. Starting at $1300... Good luck with that Tim.

they could have at least bothered to upgrade the camera but i guess they didnt want to add a bump to yet another device
