Apple is behaving a bit like politicians often do: offering solutions for problems that do not exist. Who needs that much screen brightness?

It'll be interesting to see what the new black is after all this grey, metal, black thing gets boring. It should go out of fashion at some point.

Smart marketing actually. I notice A LOT of customers who try to find displays with the biggest number showing next to nits. They sometimes don't know what it means or if it is necessary but "More nits = more gooder"

Increasing SDR brightness to 600nits makes sense since there was a rather annoying mismatch between the Studio Display and the Apple XDR display. But I agree it seems more of a software adjustment than a hardware one. It would be nice if this change was made available for all XDR displays.

$7,000 Canadian for the 16" , 1TB model, just unbelievable its $2,000 more than last generation. I don't think I'll be a mac user for that much longer. Its unfortunate without competition this is what happens.

With this I have the first display that I can use outdoors as well as indoors 🤩 I love it.

Of course it uses more battery.

Not worth upgrading for, if you already have the M1 Pro or M2 Pro versions of these MBPs. Save your $$$…
Maybe not, unless you'd like the latest and space black color. I've been waiting on a time to jump onboard, and placed an order for an M3 Pro 16".

For people who are saying that the brighter display is a software change, maybe in fact the displays are more power-efficient, as suggested here (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ient-displays-this-year-claims-report.2406409), which allows higher brightness without sacrificing battery life.
Indeed, it makes sense, I think you are right. Hopefully we'll have a teardown and see if there is indeed a hardware difference, but true, Apple would not simply bump up brightness if it was not compensated somehow as battery life is and always was a priority for MacBooks.

How odd that this Weibo leak from a week ago was real

alleged-m3-macbook-pro-box.jpeg

But cranking up contrast made it look like an island not a notch lol, optical illusion?

And what about the island like thing appearing as glyphs in beta Mac software or whatever it was? Is that feature reserved for the MBP's next year instead?

I find myself perpetually more and more confused

one things for sure - these new stock wallpapers stink. So much so, maybe thought this was fake on the basis of that alone. Looks like a contorted intestinal backlight (what is it even trying to spell out? Nothing?)

Am I the only person thinks this is Apple's distraction tactics hoping to salvage the iPhone 15 disaster?

Overheating, wireless charging malfunction, shutting down overnight... none of that is ever fixed by iOS 17.1 updates.... But suddenly no one is talking about it, so new buyers may think it doesnt exist..... I mean the 15 inch M2 just came out 3 freaking month ago... now they throw at you a 14inch M3 for basically the same price....

felt like the government giving you 5 bucks subsidy to tackle the declining birthrate.... do you think I'm that stupid....?
I think the iPhone 15 is not even close to being a disaster as you would like it to be

Unbelievable that in 2023 they are offering 8gb of ram for a base “Pro”.

My 2014 MacBook Pro came with 16gb as standard!
The MacBook PRO 13 was always 8GB base. All Apple did was make it heavier and larger and charges $300 more for the base model.

I always loved how bright Mac displays are but in fairness, if left unchecked, the auto brightness can end up burning your retinas by always being 100% and it's so gradual you barely realise until your eyes are strained and head sore.. Every pro comes with a con. Although using them in the sun in the back yard during the summer, with the antiglare screen protector is hard to beat.

Tasty if you’re working outside in the sun a lot, but otherwise pretty useless for me. I stick to 50% or below just for the sake of battery life alone cuz i’m probably on battery if i’m out and about anyways. Outside of flexing to friends I can’t even remember the last time I hit above 75% at all.

Oh and for photo/video work I click up to 60% at times to check things, that seems to be the “normalized” brightness area for a lot of peoples screens but I could be wrong.
