So I bought my 2.54 MBP in October 2008... You think I can still qualify for a 2.66?

Yes you can... but it's called fraud... and i wont tell you how i got my 2.66.

Anyone in Canada manage to swap a 2.53 with 2.66? I bought my 2.53 less than a month.. But not sure if 2.66 worth a hassle.. My current MBP is a second unit my first was swapped due to sound issue.

Curious if the new 2.66 mbp's have the same screen model numbers - lg-9c84 and samsung-9c85?

I am having problems reproducing the screen flicker its very random... any ways I can do it so that I can reproduce it in the genious bar.
I got lucky. It hadn't done it in a couple of days. I got to the Genius Bar, turned it on, and there it was, the flicker had returned. The guy's reaction was pretty funny. "Uh, that's not supposed to do that."

Keep in mind that the flicker only occurs on the 9400M, and only when the brightness is low (1-3 bars).

How do you determine which screen model number is on a particular MBP?

I've already checked System Profiler in displays/graphics. Maybe I'm checking the wrong thing or the wrong section?

Similar story to the OP. I purchased a MBA on Jan 29th 2009. After using it and realizing I had probably fell victim to it's coolness heh and it wasn't the machine for me, I read thru this post in fact and decide to give Apple a call.

I simply told them when I purchased it, that I knew I was beyond the 14 day policy but wanted to check if I payed a restock could I exchange it for the new 17 UMBP. The manager came on the phone, and said sure thing!! I was honestly a bit shocked but wow, now that is making your customers happy.

Jan 29th to March 6th.. so 30+ days and ya I spent 250 in restock fee's but good luck selling a used machine for 2250 net. Ebay charges fee's of nearly 10% all said and done so for me this was well worth it.

Thanks to the OP and me catching this story I am very lucky to have a 17" MBP with zero hassles. Kudo's!!

This is all interesting and nice to hear. I bought a 15" MBP on Feb 15th. It has a few issues, nothing that couldn't be lived with, but bugged me. Spoke to the manager of the Apple store I got it from and she said they would swap it out, but business travel prevented that. So of course 4 days after my 14 day return period updated MBPs come out. Looks like now there's renewed hope. I'll call today and see if I can work something out. Very tempted to try for a 17" matte.

Somewhat unrelated side note, speaking of talking to the manager, a day or two after buying the MBP I got the usual email wanting to know about my Apple store experience. Figured what the heck, went to the site and sent off my thoughts. Less than an hour later the manager called. Shocked, I was.

I had same situation with my iMac.
it was 29 days after purchase and they swapped it without a word.

Wat? you can actually do exchange? My Macbook Pro is only 17 days old since delivery. Its only 6 days after the launch of the new configuration. No way I'm gonna do nothing about this. I'm gonna make the same request. :mad:Keeping my fingers and toes crossed. Wish me luck..

All thanks jovanboi who started this post. As a new Mac user, I never know this could be possible. After reading his post with positive replies from the rest of you. I gave it a try and call up Apple Customer Service to explain my situation. They kindly agreed to exchange my 2.8Ghz MBP to a new 2.96Ghz version with no extra charge :) It's just gonna take 2 weeks or so for delivery. But that well worth it. I'm another happy customer for Apple. :)

I'm so gald that Apple has made this possible. Thanks to all of you here and also to Apple. :apple:

Congrats! Was very happy as well with how easy it was. Just goes to show Apple is willing to bend the rules a bit to make customers happy.

Yeah, I'm hoping my replacement will be here next week. I wonder if they've shipped any 2.93GHz 15's yet?

Thats awesome!

my macbook pro 2.53 was purchased feb 6th (this one from best buy). I have lcd light leakage, it gets hot (seems many do), and the poor fan control. I called apple and they were willing to do nothing for me :(. I recently purchased a regular MB, macmini, time capsule, and iphone 16gb as well. They said i would have to send it in or get to a store who will send it in. All options I cant do as its my primary machine. I asked if they could hold my credit card and ship me a replacement while iw ait they said no. I asked if they could help me with maybe upgrading to the new model since it wasn't even 30 days and they bumped the speed, they said no. Even if i offered to paid a restocking fee. Oh well :( that was first time ever calling apple, thought i was over paying for customer service :p.

edit: i did send an email to sjobs@apple.com , I will see what the outcome is *shrug*
