Obsolete 3rd Gen Intel, 4GB RAM, 800P screen, slow spinning 500gb drive: $1100.

While you can have a Retina 2015 for $1200 on sale at most stores, maybe less as a student.

Please Apple, kill this thing on Wednesday or at least at WWDC.

This is simply not even close to true.

the Surface Pro 3 and Yoga Pro 2 got Haswell early last year, way before the MB Pro got it in August.

And no OEMs have the Intel chips in the new Macs because Apple uses modified versions of the Windows 5200U i5 and 5500U i7 chips. All of these processors are introduced in Windows laptops in January at CES. Toshiba, Dell, HP and Lenovo all released models with 5th gen Intel before the Pro and Air were refreshed with Broadwell last month.

Sorry, you are wrong again.
Surface pro 3 came out in june of 2014. The macbook air was out in April of 2014. The MacBook Pro uses very different CPUs than the surface pro 3, the Macbook pro processors came out later. but when they did come out. Apple was again the first OEM to have them.

So Apple was the first OEM to have the 15W haswell processors
Apple was the first OEM to have the 28W haswell processors,
Apple was the first OEM to have the 47W haswell processors

I haven't looked it up, but pretty sure apple was the first OEMs with the Ivy-Bridge CPUs too, and before that too, Apple always gets early access to intels chips like I said.

And this year, apple was the first OEM to have the 15W broadwell processors
and the first OEM to have the 28W broadwell processors

And now Apple will be the first OEM to ship the 47W broadwell processors.

Apple was not however the first to ship computers with Core M, lenovo and asus, were shipping those first.

And yes other OEMs did ship laptops with broadwell processors before Apple refreshed the airs and pros. but those pc laptops do not have the same processors that are in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Which is what I have been saying. read my posts. And there are still no PC laptops shipping today with the processors that are in the MBA and 13 MBP, not because they are modified processors, but either because PC manufactures choose not to use those high end chips, or they don't have access to them, because apple is buying them all up.

Unless Intel is releasing chips early for Apple. Didn't they do that with the MBA cpu's for gen 1?

intel could maybe get Apple some chips to release maybe a month early, maybe 2 months.

But MBP skylake chips won't be coming out until Q3/Q4 of 2016.
So sure maybe intel can get Apple the chips early, and maybe apple can release the skylake MBP at wwdc 2016

Why do you expect new iMacs to lack Retina displays???

I have rImac and the M290X is too weak for WoW something I consider a downgrade comparing my top specced non-retina iMac with the 780 gpu that I got rid off when the retina puppy arrived :)

Wow the spectrum in this thread is now "July/August 2015" all the way to Q4 2016..

The release is staggered. You'll get the hotter, desktop chips first. Then as the process is refined, the other chips will become available as they are binned into what voltage they are stable at, and hence their power requirements. In other words, the laptop class chips are not going to be the first ones released.

Following the release of the new retina MacBook, the whole laptop line-up is in a state of flux, with changes in technology (keyboard, trackpad, ports, internals, etc), form factor, and finishes. The Airs (if they survive) and the Pros are clearly due for a major revamp.

Personally, I will keep my 2007 pre-unibody 15" MBP going until the MBP range is redesigned, presumably with Skylake.

Would love to see MacRumors erupt if Apple released new laptops with A-class chips, dumping Intel. The fireworks would be beyond spectacular. :p

Would love to see MacRumors melt down if Apple released new laptops with A-class chips, dumping Intel.

The rMB introduction was the best opportunity to use an A-class CPU in a Mac that Apple will have for years. It didn't happen.

Agreed. Although still a nice machine, it needs to go. The retinas have gone down in price enough to where I can't recommend buying the cMBP unless you are getting it for a very good deal. I'd say at this point its ridiculously overpriced. I would rather buy a MacBook Air. Heck, even a the ULV CPU in the Air is probably as fast as the cMBP at this point. Plus for $1100 you could upgrade the Air with 8 GB of RAM.

So literally for the same amount of money, You get a lighter, thinner, machine with SSD standard and 8 GB of RAM with a higher resolution screen. The IGPU will also be faster on the Air as well.

Please Apple, wait a little more, as I want to sell my cMBP very soon and "latest model" with a link to the Apple website makes the $ roll.

Industry observers had initially believed that the issues impacting Broadwell would also cause Skylake to slip to 2016, but newer information suggests that Intel would seek to recover from these delays by bringing forward Skylake's release and shortening Broadwell's release cycle instead.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylake_(microarchitecture)

We know nothing about Skylake release. We will know more after IDF in August, and anything could happen. If Intel makes Broadwell unusually short in lifetime, maybe Apple will do this with the Mid'15 rMBP 15''.
But, if Intel really plans to catch up and to release Cannonlake in 2016, then predictions like Q3/Q4 2016 are just stupid. We'll hopefully see a Cannonlake MBP by then. My guess is anything from October '15 to March '16.

So Apple was the first OEM to have the 15W haswell processors
Apple is the only one who uses the big GPU versions but all other 17W chips came out with other OEMs sooner.
Apple was the first OEM to have the 28W haswell processors,
No one uses those chips other than Apple. They are the first of one. There maybe one or two other notebooks that use them at all and they have widely varying release cycles.
Apple was the first OEM to have the 47W haswell processors
Apple uses the Iris Pro processors and those came out a little after the standard quads. Even Iris Pro showed up first in other notebooks. XMG had a 4750hq out before Apple released their MBPs.

Apple hasn't been first with much of anything. As far as Iris Pro goes they are pretty much the only ones buying them so naturally they get launched basically for Apple. All other Iris Pro notebooks that exist are low volume exotic types.
Nobody else uses the big GPU 15/17W chips because they are mostly pointless. They cost more but offer notehing worthwhile. The GPU is barely any faster in snythetic tests and in real ones not at all. TDP and bandwidth just make them not worth it.
The 28W chips aren't used because they are more expensive than a 15/17W + 840M but perform worse in both absolut performance and battery life. There is no upside to them outside of a smaller logic board. That is why nobody bothers using them.

If Apple only uses chips that come out after the rest they are not exactly a priority. 5500U and such have been out long before the Airs with their chips. Iris Pro broadwell will be launch now and not replace until Q2 2016, while everybody else uses the other quad cores which are probably skylake by the end of the year Q4 2015. So Apple gets served last because they want the special sauce.

Don't get too excited folks. If they "launch" on Wednesday, it might mean you can possibly see one in a store in August and possibly even be able to buy one in store in October with the way things are going at Apple lately. :-D

I'm using my mid-2012 i7 15" rmbp and it is still going strong. It's applecare will expire on July 26, 2015. This would be a great time to upgrade but if it is not redesign or really big upgrade i'll most likely skip it and wait for new one.

I like how GPUs are supposedly "not important" to "the vast majority of Pro users" and yet every thread about the specs of the new MBPs consist mainly of GPU speculation.

It's almost as though not everyone has the same needs. Me, I'd gladly get a version with more room for additional RAM chips but only integrated graphics. The dedicated GPU doesn't matter much with what I use it for; I/O does.

I doubt losing the dGPU will free up enough logic board space for the RAM to double from 16 to 32GB. You'd be hoping the density of the RAM chips doubles really.

New Cylinder Mac Pro's at the WWDC please.

GPUs based on the AMD R9 295 X2 or how about the Titan Z :D
Double the PCIE-SSD and Ram Capability.
And a dual core version ;)

Apple fans waiting for updates to the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 27-inch iMac may get good news sooner than expected[...]
That's written in a way like if such "Apple fans" were a rare find nowadays. However, this is the rumor with more comments in the MacRumors front page (242 comments right now). So, the Mac is still the Apple product that interests more users.

Looks like Apple dropped the price by $100 and $150 respectively to clear remaining inventory.

Not sure if it was done to clear inventory, but their prices on some models have definitely dropped. The Retina 5K iMac is now $200 lower than before, but still shows available to ship today for the stock configuration.

Ok so I'm not crazy... I just went to look and was like "those prices look lower than yesterday"...

EDIT*****************
The Refurbs are lowered as well and there are some sweet steals available right now as of 8:15am EST.

Yup, price drop. Which is more of a sign that there won't be an update for the Retina models tomorrow.

Just registered here because I saw this. Bought a 27" 3.4GHz iMac on 6th May. If an upgrade is released at the same price, how do I go about returning this? My 14 day return period expires on Thursday 21st (14 days from delivery). Can I trade it in at a store or do I have to ship it? I didn't add any upgrades to it because delivery times were 2-3 weeks. Didn't think anything of this at the time I just thought that was the norm! Didn't check other models!

Also, no price drop on the AU Apple store.

Delivery times have slipped from In Stock to 1 business day for the base 3.4GHz 27". Still In Stock for base 3.2GHz 27" though.

If bought online, that's how you'll need to return it.
