I really, really hope they don't drop dGPU option.

A nice 960M or similar would be a massive improvement over the 750M.

Personally I like the fact that Apple has lately followed the availability of first to market next gen chips rather than artificial calendar criteria.

But if Skylake is just around the corner why not wait for that?

So why isn't Apple waiting to update until this fall? I can't see them updating in May and then again in the fall. Unless they're working on a redesigned machine for Skylake and they will announce that in the fall?

I'm guessing they're going to treat this as a minor spec bump, release it early so they don't have to talk it up on stage, which will give them leeway to announce a 'proper' update when the skyline stuff is ready.

Remember this is MacRumors and not MacConfirmedbyApple. This is still a rumour but a rather plausible one. And I'll take it at that.

I really want to see if the iMacs are upgraded. I'm slowly thinking about buying a new 21.5 iMac. I might look into the 27 if they are a good deal overall but I'd prefer the 21.5 to be upgraded cause that's the screen size I prefer.

I would love a Non-Retina 4.0GHz i7 27" iMac for home.
I have the Retina 4.0GHz at work and I just don't need the 5K screen. The 4.0GHz i7 on the other hand is pretty fancy....

Don't be surprised if Apple releases a Broadwell 15" MBP on Wednesday, and then turns around and releases a Skylake 15" MBP in October.
This wouldn't be the first time Apple did something like this: in October 2005 Apple released a brand-new PowerBook (turned out to be the final one) and then in February 2006 -- JUST FOUR MONTHS LATER -- Apple released and shipped the first-ever MacBook Pro.

Skylakers should wait until at least this Fall's announcements.

I wonder what the point of releasing a Broadwell machine is then? Why wouldn't people just wait for Skylake? Unless it's not a sure thing it will be available this fall?

I don't think the 15" is going to get a redesign of any kind if they're just going to launch it on a Wednesday. Probably just the same stuff the 13" got in March.

You are correct , for in iMac update the GPU to say a 960M would be a big jump.

Agree. I don't see how this update would warrant a redesign. Maybe it will come with Skylake.

I don't know, ask them, I only replied to the poster about it not being skylake.

That's why I expect Broadwell iMacs maybe on wednesday.. using a silent release, to solve supply chain issues. Then in the fall another refresh to keep Intel's production lines happy.

Well I did just buy an Retina iMac 2 weeks ago, so this confirms it

I do find it interesting that only the 15" and 27" are getting "upgraded". What about the 13" and 21.5"? Getting phased out in favor of simplifying the product lines? 11", 12", 13", 15" notebooks.... I could see this. But the entry-level iMac at 22" is probably perfect for a lot of people.

Here is a nasty thought. Besides the Mac Pro, these upgrades only affect RAM-upgradable models. Maybe they no longer will have user-replaceable RAM.

The 15" rMBP doesn't have user-replaceable RAM.

I don't really see the point without Skylake. I'm wondering if a redesign or a more substantial update will be out later in the year.

Are there ANY CPUs that would fit in MBP from Broadwell or Skylake? Mobile quad core CPUs I mean.

Did I missed any release from Intel?

They haven't been announced yet. Apple typically is the first to use new mobile procs, but another rumor is that Intel would cancel broadwell-H, which could mean this version will be a minor spec bump, hence also no press release.

Skylake isn't out until August I believe.
Quite right. The Intel release calendar for 2015 is heavily compressed with Broadwell and Skylake having near overlapping release schedules. We will be looking at Broadwell for now but Skylake is securely in IDF territory with motherboards and OEM reference machines showing up soon at Computex next month.

It really does throw a wrench in purchases for this year. Desktop users might just be looking at a drop-in replacement on their Haswell based 9-series boards while laptops are front and center for releases. Mobile comes first nowadays with releases but there are already plenty of leaks for desktop users to gander at with the Core i5 6600K and Core i7 6700K.

Skylake is really the upgrade to look forward to with plenty more bandwidth on GPU front with 20 PCIe 3.0 lanes and on top of that the PCH interface gets an upgrade to DMI 3.0 from 2.0 that has been around since 2012. USB 3.1, USB C, more M.2 form factor, and SATA Express connections should be there to take advantage of this leap in peripheral bandwidth.

Do not forget DDR4 too! Though Intel is surprisingly going to support both DDR3L and DDR4 on Skylake. We are still in a transitional period there until DDR4 prices hit mainstream.
