I mean, it's really ugly - it's utilitarian, it looks like a 2009 MacBook Pro. But hey that's what everyone on this forum wanted from a Pro machine so I guess none of those people are complaining now.

Interestingly it will actually deter many people from buying it simply as it may look like they have an old MBP rather than the latest one. So many will hate that people could think that 😂

I guess they caved on the whole usb-c thing, would sure be nice if they added HDMI to the air as well. That is the only port that I wish that I had. Magsafe would be nice for charging also just for the safety aspect. If I had to guess they are going back to magsafe for the profit of selling magsafe chargers though.

I don’t care if it’s thicker, but the weight is an issue... unless they release a really light Air with a bigger display than its current one. The Air really needs to be light (and not from using a small display)

I think the tradeoffs are definitely worth the extra weight and thickness. These new MBP's look like beasts. I'm very excited. The notch doesn't bother me. The increased resolution seems worth it as well.

Does anyone else agree that the 16" MBP with 32GB ram and 1TB SSD at $3,099 might actually be priced more competitively than expected?

As you can see from above, the new 16-inch MacBook Pro is nearly 9% heavier than the previous generation and is also slightly thicker. The new MacBook Pros feature a redesigned designed body, that is not also thicker and heavier, but also includes more I/O ports and new features.
I think that is a reasonable equivalency with dimensions. More I/O ports is great.

I feel like this is a very regressive design, adding a hdmi port, proprietary power, and sd card slot? Jesus, talk about backwards. USBc was all about universal ability. don't need cdmi? fine you don't have a wasted port, you can use it for something else. SD cards are on the way out too. Don't get me started on MagSafe return, they didn't even use the superior L-Plug they updated to.

Oh wow, it's 100 grams more and 0.06 cm thicker.

It's negligible.

I think the best comparison to make would be with the pre-Touchbar Macbook Pros. These machines seem to be lighter than those by far.

By releasing these machines Apple seems to basically be admitting the past few years of Macbook Pros was a mistake, and is iterating on the pre-touchbar design. I'm all for that.

ok so noob question, with the new MagSafe charger, will it also have the same capabilities as a standard USB-C charger?

There are many people, myself included, who were sick of Apple going thin for the sake of thin. Meanwhile the machine would throttle because it was too thin.
Couldn’t agree more. I could not care less what the machine looks like. I have work to do and I’m not going to sit there and look at the aesthetics of my laptop while I’m doing it.

Thicker and Heavier oh no!

About 6.4 ounces heavier and half a millimeter thicker.

Hardly noticeable in my opinion.

The weight increase is almost certainly due to bigger batteries, and the (slight) thickness increase is probably due to the HDMI port. The thickness increase is possibly why they increased the battery size.

The notch really isn't "HIDEOUS" though is it - you've just moved your menu bar up a bit and now you've got a bigger screen, you wont' even notice it, it makes use of previously wasted space.

The rest of the machine is hideous looking but hey, functional I guess, if you want those horrible legacy ports.
Nobody has every reviewed/used a machine and said, this would be great... if it weren't for those extra ports.

Agree 100%, but we're in the minority on this forum - losing a 40GBPs Thunderbolt 4 port that can do anything for a single use HDMI port is a disaster, but Apple must have researched this and found there are more people like them, than us.

It's a shame ports aren't module - it would increase the SKU's ten fold, but imagine just being able to pick 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports on both sides and a couple of extra USB-C ports on each side - that'd be perfect expansion.
