New 16" Speakers Popping

Wondering if any of you have tried starting in Safe mode, and are still experiencing the popping? If it doesn't happen in safe mode, that could suggest that it's a 3rd party audio driver issue. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that their problem was caused by an audio driver that hadn't been optimized for the M1. I wonder about that.

Popping has largely disappeared for me since I deleted the audio preferences and installed Boom 3D. I think I've had a few random pops or cracks here and there, but it has been SO much better.

I tried Safe Mode ages ago and it still happened. Safe Mode doesn't do crap when it's the default audio drivers in macOS that is the problem. That's why Boom 3D is working so well since it gives the OS another audio driver to work with (and an equalizer which WHY DOES MACOS NOT HAVE EQUALIZER SETTINGS! WINDOWS HAS HAD THIS FOR YEARS!)
 
I get the popping a lot when my iPad Pro is in Sidecar mode and I'm watching videos on it, either in Quicktime player or on YT. So much so that it becomes annoying and intrusive. Boom3D didn't help to reduce it, it's fairly constant.

This is the only problem I've had with my M1 Max 16". Absolutely stellar computer and easily the best Mac I've owned, just hope this popping can be addressed via software.

They cannot fix that in apple store...so you try to exchange it or ask for the refund

like i said, even if you did have an apple store...is irrelevant, they cannot fix this there
And since the beta of this new big macOS release didnt fixed it, or if this will not be fixed until fall...expect to live with it until next big macOS release

If I had an apple store here, I would return this piece of junk

It's pretty ridiculous that this is still happening. Third party audio drivers are pretty much necessary to daily drive Macbook Pros nowadays since they actually work.

Except even those eventually fail, at least that's what happened with Boom 3D for me. Are there any other third party audio drivers out there like Boom that we can test this on?

So I just had a pop...but just one, and it wasn't because of any content it was from macOS desktop switching issues. I went back to heavy testing of 30 minutes in Cities Skylines and not a single pop happened, so I'm chalking that one up as user error and Boom is still working for me.

So did they fix it? Give you a replacement? Tell you there is nothing wrong with your MBP?
 
I have this on my 14-inch MBP as well. It was fine for the first four months, then about two months ago it started happening. It was intermittent so didn't bother me too much. Last week it just became awful and occurs with wired and wireless headsets, in safe mode, and even after a drive wipe.

I took it to the Apple store and they heard it, kept it for a few days, then I got a call back saying they reinstalled macOS and it passed all of their tests. As soon as I got it home and opened it up, I was greeted to a large "pop!" at the Apple logo.

It's frustrating because if I take it back again they probably will just do the same thing and I will have to fight for a replacement. Then if I get a replacement, I will have to wait weeks and weeks since I'll have to return this machine.

It's been better for the past few days, only happening a few times each day, but if it gets like it was the other week I'm not sure what to do.

Install Boom 3D or another audio driver and see how well that helps. For most it fixed it.

While I appreciate any alternative 3rd party solutions that work in the interim (While we wait for Apple to finally fix this), Installing Boom 3D should not be a requirement for audio that works as intended on a computer of this price where the same company produces the hardware and firmware/OS. This should be fixed by Apple.

Has Boom 3D's memory leak been fixed? Since i remember that it was doing crazy good EQ on my old MBA . But I can't handle the memory leaks. Idk about now though

I have been using Boom 3D for a couple of weeks now. Haven't noticed any memory leaks so far on my MacBook Pro 2019 16. Atm Boom 3D is only taking 70 MB of memory.
