Im using my 17" for photography also. Calibration of the screen is a must. I used Spyder 3 Elite, works great. Took a few tries to get it right but its worth it.

Another perfect one here. 2.93 GHz but standard otherwise.

  • Perfect fit and finish all round
  • No graphics corruption
  • Awesome colour and brighness
  • Cool to the touch at all times

Thank you Apple. Once again.

How to tell what display you have?

I have had mine for 8 full days now, everything seems fine but how do you go about telling what model display you have?

and how do you decipher the model number? I went to a few sites that you enter you serial and its supposed to tell you all about your Mac, but when I put in my number, it had no information about it....

Pleased to say I have been using my new Jan '09 MB Pro 17" for a couple weeks now and no issues to date.

My config was 2.9, 7200 320, glossy, etc....

Oh, by the way, glossy if perfectly fine for photography, in my opinion, if you setup your work station correctly.

Would be interesting if this thread was longer than any other. Time will tell.

I have the exact same specs also, no problems at all!

I am in graphic design and video editing and the glossy is fine with me.

I calibrate with the Colormunki which provides both laptop and desktop specific profiles; and printer profiles. This is one of the most convenient color profiling devices I have seen to date, and I have used a few.

Oh, I know this because I utilize my machine mainly for photography and running windows for some Bible study software via VMware.

I did put mine in "better performance" mode, but no issue. I also couldn't tell a difference in the speed, but perhaps if I get Photoshop really kickin', it could use the boost.

P.S. They guy with the lid that didn't close all the way, I wish I were that picky. I am probably just glad my machine turned on out of the box.

Guess I spoke to soon... I was importing my music to my itunes library and doing a backup on time machine at the same time. I now have the green and red vertical pixels dancing on my screen. This sucks, I just got everything set up.

Week and a Half...

Well this is my first Mac and I must say I'm and in love!!! I wish I would have made the switch to Apple sooner. My MacBook Pro is great, not one single problem so far. I have the base model of the 17" with a glossy screen. I am very pleased overall with this product!!!:apple::D

System Preferences > Displays > Color > Open Profile > Scroll down, click on #13.

Got mine last Thursday. No h/w defects I know of - zero dead pixels (woo-hoo).

The only possible issue is the "blink", which some others have reported. I have a feeling it's a software issue. It goes away after a PRAM zap and/or restart, and hasn't happened often (I've seen it with either GPU).

edit: glossy, standard 2.66GHz configuration

So far no issues. Perfect screen. No light bleeding or bad pixels. Going to try out fallout 3 for a few hours and see if my GPU is ok. Love my first mac! Only problem i am having is with the drivers for the mouse pad in windows. I turn on the tap feature and it seems way to sensitive. Drives me nuts.

Which screen type do you have ? If you have glossy could you please post your profile ?
