So the new M2/16GB/512GB Mini that I ordered (and is arriving tomorrow) will be slower than my 2014 Mini? Hm.
I would still test it out and see how it performs. At the end of the day, it is still running the new M2 chip. I wonder if you are going to take advantage of this? hmm 😣So the new M2/16GB/512GB Mini that I ordered (and is arriving tomorrow) will be slower than my 2014 Mini? Hm.
And they charge 200 USD for additional 256 GB. Greed.

For that you can get a Mac Studio M1 Ultra 20/48 SoC with 64GB/4TB, such a deal. Aren't you selecting software also with the above M2 Pro Mac mini config?

Ok. But the Mac mini is made using 100% recycled aluminum not tin.On a good note! You are getting the Supercharged Industry-Leading M2 Chip tho. Still, an impressive machine inside that tin can in my opinion.
But then they would have one less upcharge opportunity. That's just rude. Would probably cost them less than $15 more to benefit their customers...
Twice? Where can I get one of those speedy typical HDD'sThis isn't surprising. You are getting a single SSD instead of two.
1500 MB / sec is still very fast; twice as fast as a typical HDD. I doubt most people will be affected as anyone who needs speeds faster will be using an external drive. I have several for multi-cam editing and, as I've mentioned numerous times on these forums, you shouldn't be using your boot drive as a scratch drive.
But the new one has double the Ms. Or I heard next year's model will have 3 Ms. Moar Ms = better!I'd probably recommend a 2nd-hand base M1 now.
Absolutely.I thought we already went over this with the M2 Air.
It literally does not matter for real-world use cases.
Worry more about your RAM.
It's called inflation, haha. Although, it does suck that 512 GB is also a single NAND.TL;DR
You need to spend +$400 for the 1TB option to get a pair of NAND chips now.
You can't spell "Crook" without (Tim) "Cook" 🤣Surprise!
Crooks like everyone else

M2 model still is much better, and even half speed SSD is quite fast. Until few years ago it was sci-go to think about a 2GB/s disk speed. Even a 1GB/s is more than enough for many use cases.I was waiting for this tragic news. So the $100 price drop on the base-spec M2 was meaningless. I'd probably recommend a 2nd-hand base M1 now.
