After a few weeks of new iOS 10 features slowly being discovered by beta testers, one new 3D Touch-enabled shortcut was stumbled upon recently that will let users prioritize the bulk download of apps. When more than one app is installing, users on iOS 10 can 3D Touch to select "Prioritize Download" and temporarily pause the installation of other apps while the selected one gains favor.

On devices running iOS 9 and earlier, bulk downloads require users to run through every app downloading and tap to pause them, leaving only their favored app downloading. Apple's streamlined process in iOS 10 should greatly alleviate the frustration in moments where multiple apps are waiting to be downloaded and installed onto an iPhone.

(Thanks, Eric!)

Except if your device doesn't have 3D Touch...

Oh I see what you are saying, people who don't have a feature because they bought a phone without it can't use said feature? Wow I guess that's right.

On a similar note did you know that if you buy a car without a rear view camera you can't use a rear view camera to backup? Hm, makes you think what these corporations are up to.

How about every iPad in existence? Like the recent "Pros" that will immediately become morally obsolete once the new amazing only apple can make such awesome wow - "the new iPad Pro Plus with 3D touch extreme HD" are introduced.

C:\> Disk defragmentation ?

Is this choice really necessary? Not a smarter way to resolve prioritizing downloads without user input?

Really Apple? Adding, adding, adding until one day we find ourselves with a super bloated iOS?

Important to note, this only applies to NEW Downloads.

Apps that are updating only gives you the option to Pause or Cancel. Maybe they will add all of them later?

Yeah! iPhones should be able to read our minds to find out which app we want to be downloaded first.

That's a hardware feature. My car has received software updates.

3D Touch is a hardware feature as well?

He is saying there could be a method for people that bought the newest iPhone, the iPhone SE. As a developer I hate that Apple put out the SE without 3D touch, because now 3D touch will never be an integral part of the UX, at least until the SE is out of circulation (Likely another two years.)

Here is a simple solution Apple could do - touch and hold on blank space - app icons go into move/delete state. Tap and hold on icon - 3d touch shortcut menu. Problem solved for the SE/iPhone 6/6+/5s/5.

And their is. Just manually pause every other app, either through the Home screen or more easily from the updates list in App Store. This is just a shortcut.
That's not really a practical UI. Especially when you're restoring and you have a lot of apps downloading. There's no reason why they couldn't add a priority button in the updates list.

Can you tell me how much disk space and CPU usage this "prioritize downloads" feature uses? I didn't think it would be resource intensive at all, but you seem to have insider information.

I would thing fans who want iOS to be more like android would be jumping for joy.

This has already been possible for the past few years by simply tapping on the app you'd like to prioritize.
This is what I thought as well. I guess this just gives it a GUI for those who didn't know you could do that.

It's weird that Apple adds a feature like this that is so unlikely to get use that it wasn't even discovered until weeks after the software was first released. And yet they still won't add a toggle to switch between video resolutions in the Camera app. Why can't I tap or 3D Touch that big 4K "button" to quickly switch resolution? That would get much more use than this, since most apps just update silently in the background unless you're restoring your device.

Seriously. 3D Touch should be for shortcuts only. There should always be another method.
Alright, give me a solution. If you don't have 3D Touch, how can you prioritize app downloads? If you hold down on an app icon without 3D Touch, the apps wiggle so you can move them so that wouldn't work out.

Doesn't have to be in the homescreen. They could add a Mail-like swipe gesture in the updates list, with options to prioritize or delete. Or just add a prioritize icon next to the download icon.

3D Touch? Also a hardware feature.

This works on updates as well... Prioritize only appears on updates currently when the app is in the install phase. I would hope that this is something that will be adjusted in future betas.
