How about a "feature" that tells the phone you really, truly, sincerely want to download those updates at all?? Am I the only person who has to stop and start updates (especially when not on WiFi) to get them to actually initialize (instead of showing me a circle and stop button for all of eternity)? Is that a carrier (AT&T) thing?

Or... your iDevice could actually check some stats, and use its built in smarts, which apps are used more frequently, which app is used at a given time of the day, and sort the priority of the downloads in a more useful order. You don't have to think about it, you don't have to force 3d touch anything, it just works.

What Apple has just introduced is the equivalent of a right click, Windows style, with some options that are really unnecessary and could be resolved with a little more artificial intelligence.

But there are still scenarios where I might want to do something other than my past habits?

He is saying there could be a method for people that bought the newest iPhone, the iPhone SE. As a developer I hate that Apple put out the SE without 3D touch, because now 3D touch will never be an integral part of the UX, at least until the SE is out of circulation (Likely another two years.)

Here is a simple solution Apple could do - touch and hold on blank space - app icons go into move/delete state. Tap and hold on icon - 3d touch shortcut menu. Problem solved for the SE/iPhone 6/6+/5s/5.

There already is a method of app download prioritization for those devices.

- Double-tap the app icon and it puts it at top priority.

- Single-tap will toggle a pause/resume of the download.

This just uses 3D Touch to do what's already been possible for quite some time.

Little useless features from little useless brain from Apple. Why prioritize? They couldn't even prioritize anything especially when they held wwdc event. Mickey Mouse face watch?

Isn't internet pretty fast? We're talking a minute or two of waiting even when you update 10 apps. I've never really yearned for being able to select one app to download over another, but bravo for more features.

I leave auto update off on iOS 8 and tap only the apps that I want to update. Several I leave at previous "best" versions before they became crippleware.

I feel like they sat down at Apple and said "ok, we have 3D Touch technology that does almost nothing. What can we do better?"

This isn't a bad thing, but I sure wish half of these features came around last year when 3D Touch was actually initially implemented.

Ive been in a situation where a game, or something larger, is downloading and other apps are waiting to download and thus currently not usable.

These are minor things but it's just a simple quality of life improvement for the OS.

I've found that updates don't happen immediately when they kisnch unless I manually force them. If I just leave my phone to do its thing it usually updates everything overnight within a few days. It's more or less seamless but I've occasionally manually updated things

kinda seem useless, are people REALLY downloading THAT many apps at the same time? sounds like you have no life.

If you are, maybe just wait the 10 seconds it usually takes to download..
I mentioned this above, but this really has to do more with either a slower connection (maybe while you're out and about) or for those who might be downloading games.

It's a minor improvement for when you find yourself in a very specific situation. It's not going to be life changing for most anyone.

Seriously. 3D Touch should be for shortcuts only. There should always be another method.
It's possible a long press will work. Apple has mentioned that many of their 3D Touch features they announced will be compatible with devices that lack such hardware.

How many features can u introduce into 3D Touch.. ? Apple's response: allot.. just wait and see.

3D touch shortcuts like this should be like using the command key on macOS. It's not necessary to know about, but if you want to be a power user unlike, say, my mother, it's a nice add. It shouldn't take away much from the user experience if you don't know the shortcut.

I always knew about the single-tap, but the double-tap action is news to me. Glad to hear it, as a happy 5s user!
