Rumor only I hope. 5e. What a dumb idea. Just make a damn 4" iPhone 6 (mini?) and call it done. iPhones, 3 sizes. iPads, 3 sizes. Laptops, a little crazy right now, but essentially 3 sizes. Hello.

I thought I wanted a Plus phone to read more on the screen. It turns out that doesn't matter, but a bigger issue popped up. The keyboard in portrait. So much easier to type accurately for me on the Plus. While I like (love) the idea of going physically smaller I hesitate due to the small keyboard. But, it's been a while, I think I used to turn that thing sideways a lot to type. I guess that works pretty well..hmm.

Of course it's just a rumour and the rumours on this mythical 4" iPhone are all over the map. Better just to wait till this thing is released

Unfortunately, this sounds about right.

Seriously? This is a rumor that is SO far off the mark in its details. There is NO way its true. "will be offered in rose gold and existing colors" NOT IN A MILLION YEARS! Apple is so obviously saving all gold colors for their flagship devices. You cant even but a 6 in gold, let alone rose gold. I don't doubt that apple could possibly develop a new 4 inch device, but its not seeming very likely at this point. So few people even want a smaller phone, and since everyone and their mamas STILL complain about battery life, even with their massive battery enabled 6 plus's, it'd be another 5-6 years for battery tech to enable anyone to create a higher capacity, smaller form factor battery.

Pretty much NEVER have I seen any one of these early in the year rumors come to fruition. Maybe in generalities, but never in specifics. And this one reeks of too much incorrect details. Apple developed a slightly different phone to slot in at a lower price point one time. And the specs were completely the same, only change was the housing. And that didn't go to well. I think apple learned their lesson on that one.

That 100 billion in the bank will sink FAST when you need to pay the paycheck for 99 thousand of employees and when you have low sales with empty stores. That 100 billion will last them 6-12 months at most if sales drop dramatically. Now that may not happen, but sales ARE dropping!

2016 will be the first year iPhone sales decline.

And just because they have 100 billion doesn't mean they "GET" it. Microsoft was and still is one of the most profitable companies in the world, doesn't mean they "GET" it either. It just means they are good at marketing and making a profit.

Your weak argument is actually an indication that you don't "GET" it.

And by the way, their 100 billion in the bank will actually be 60 billion after they bring the money to the US and pay the taxes.

based on your logic, "you get it", why don't you start your own company and take over Apple or Microsoft?

Apple and Microsoft are still the leader in their industry. I don't see any companies (or you) can take over them any time soon. and many companies wish to be like Apple and Microsoft.

you are just an empty can that can shout loud but no substance.

Not a bad deal

A8 is a good choice. people here aren't thinking in terms of experience, but as spec wh****.

"Will this phone be able to run 30 safari tabs and 10 other apps at the same time?" WHO CARES! You're not the target audience!

"Will this phone be able to run this app under x seconds?"...Seriously?

This phone is for people who do basic smartphone stuff and tuck it away afterwards in their skinny jeans. I'm considering myself part of it. I have an iPhone 6s and I'm very positive I'm not using it to its full potential, and I find it too big.

iPhone with 4 inch, A8 (a very capable processor), 8mp camera (one of best), ApplePay, etc is good deal. Its not beast, but its as fast as 6, and very compact too. Might sell well.

This is one area where they copy Android phones and shouldn't. Why do all manufacturers insist on using low end specs for small phones?

The manufacturers do this to maximize profit.

Anyway, last month I finally replaced the battery in my iPhone4, thus it should be good for another 5.5 years. Let's wait for what Apple will come up with in their 2021 iPhone line up... :)

Apple did not learn from the failure of 5C. People doesn't choose 4" phone because of the price, and actually people will feel shame when they hold it because it is like a tag on their face saying they are poor.

If this is true, I predict it's going to flop, much like the 5c! Or at least I hope the does, so Apple can get their heads out of their @#@#?$ and back on track!!
I don't know that I'd call the 5c a flop. It was very very popular for enterprise.

They don't! Sony have been successfully making and selling it's 'Compact' version of it's top line Xperia Z series for several years now, with top end specs to match.
Good luck buying those in the U.S. I don't believe the Xperia Z5 is even for sale here, let alone the compact.

Cloud you please show me an Android phone with twice the battery capacity of an iPhone in the same size ?
Do you really think Apple is less able than any other manufacturer ?
4.7" iPhone 6s - 1715mAh
4.7" Xperia Z4 Compact - 3000mAh
5.0" HTC One M9 - 2840mAh
5.1" Galaxy S6 - 2550mAh

As I said, other manufacturers are perfectly capable of doing this.

so they are only good at marketing? tell me who can design an OS that is as good as Window or OSX? give me one example(not Linus crap).

not only apple and Microsoft got load of cash in their bank to survive any mistakes that they make, they are the leader in their market, that others follow.

beside both companies have an ecosystem that embedded deep in enterprise (MS) and consumers. it would take a long time for any companies with strong products and financial strength to replace these ecosystem, if ever.

iphone alone is not long lasting product but together with Applepay, itune content, app, carplay, and Mac, it would be very hard for any companies to overtake.

And the 5.5" iPhone 6S Plus only has a 2750mAh battery. That battery in the Z4 is pretty beastly. o_O

No, this doesn´t make any sense...;)

I wasn't particularly talking about the color. I was talking about it being under spec'd and over priced. As far as battery life, the smaller the screen, the less power it consumes, so I don't see that as an issue. I see this as a plausible rumor because it has literally happened already. They take old/underpowered hardware, repackage it, and market it as something new and magical and sell it at a premium. iPhone 5c, iPad mini, 12" MacBook...

$500? Lol! If lots of people go out and buy it, they deserve what they get (underpowered iPhone).

I don't understand this. Why gimp the 4" phone? I'm not one that particularly wants a 4 inch model but I can accept the fact that plenty of people do. If you're going to fool with a 4" phone put it on par with the 6s and 6s+ none of this half assed spec "budget" phone.

Try to view it from Apple's point of view, yeah? What evidence is there that "plenty of people" want smaller phones? They just sold more phones than ever before, and the models were all 4.7" and above. The market has spoken, and the market wants larger phones. Sure, there are a relatively small amount of users who prefer the smaller size, and for those users Apple has provided the iPhone 5S. Not as powerful as the current models, but plenty powerful for those who prefer that size.

All things considered, I give Apple a lot of credit for at least making an effort to appease a very vocal minority.

e=enhanced. d would be what........ ;)
Derp?

No, they bought them because those were the only sizes available. The only way to know what people want would be to offer the iPhone 7 in 3 sizes and let the sales speak for themselves.

You mean a NORMAL sized device

No, a smaller device. In 2016, especially towards the end of the year, a 4" phone is not a "normal-sized" device. It's just not. You guys need to open your eyes to the world around you. Very few people want phones like this, and most of them hardly use their phone for anything.

Also, the whining about specs...you put top-spec guts in here, with the small battery required - you'll have disappointing battery life. Also, lower-end specs will have an easier time with the lower-resolution screen. The 5s display is much easier to push pixels on than a 6 Plus display.

People bought those phones because they wanted to buy them. I upgraded from the 6 to the 6S because I wanted to, not becuase I needed to. Nobody is forced to buy iPhones that they don't want or need.

Wow...another guy coming on here with common sense and logic. You're going to make the vocal minority upset.

Well that would be the best way. But Apple has no doubt made pro-types in all sizes with flagship processors and they've used them to see which they prefer. So there are ways other than just making a third sized flagship to guess at what people in general will prefer.

I'd like a nice small phone. But the 6 is good for me as well. But I'm also a big guy, so my 6 probably sits in my hand not much different then a 5 sits in the hand of a normal sized woman. I wouldn't go back to a 4 inch sized phone even if it was a flagship. That said, my Z10 which is a bit bigger than 5 and a bit smaller than a 6 is actually a slightly better size for me.

But I really don't see why many of my friends prefer the 6plus.

Oh god... not another letter designation...

lol...

so there going to replace iphone 5s with e ........ VoLte calling seems good, but i use my own Voip app anyway on 4G network

Plus, i would need to switch to Telstra.. That ain't gonna happen...
