Can't wait for this to come out. Not because I'm gonna buy it, but because Android phone manufacturers will surely follow and make worthy ~4" smartphones again. And then I'm gonna buy one of 'em.

How does it even benefit US consumers if Apple beats sales records? It doesn't !
It's only good for consumers if sales decline, maybe then they will make base storage 32gb.

If that happens with those specs maybe Apple will finally get their well deserved first outlash since announcing their Microsoft partnership in the 1990s.
Long overdue, but methinks they wouldn't even show it on stage if the offer was as bad as presented here.

1GB of RAM?
Flagship or not, I don't care. Those days should be long gone.

Just face the facts, the smaller screen phones aren't in high demand as much as the small phone lovers think they are.

Your logic and common sense aren't welcomed here.

Greed? Don't you believe in capitalism? It's about making profit not people happy, you ignorant commie!

I love these posts because they sarcastically point out the dark secret that Apple is the only corporation in the world that's out to make a profit.

Another vote here for the 4" phone as "normal" -- for people who prefer 4" phones! I'm keeping my 5c until I see this thing hit the marketplace and then I'll probably go for it. I've handled the 6s and its Plus version and I don't like one-handing the 6s and I dislike the heft of the larger one since I don't get having a "phone" that's practically a tablet when I already have an iPad and an iPad mini. Apple would not be putting this updated 4" phone out there unless there was a market for it. I'm part of that market and happy to realize that we've been heard by Apple's designers.

I certainly can understand that view point. I am enjoying the larger screen but I think it's good to have some variety for those that want a more compact screen size. A 4" screen is much, much better for one handed use.

Apple doesn't get it. All Apple really needs to do is make the same margins with the smaller iPhone. Why do they have to make it inferior? Why does Apple not get it?

if they don't get it, they wouldn't have $100Billions sitting on their vault. If you get it, how much do you have in your bank?

so the question is who gets it? you or Apple?

Works for me. I couldn't care less if the specs are slightly lower. I want size, the 6s is too big for me. NFC and Touch ID are a must. As is 64gb to use the device as a backup for my camera when shooting. Given the CCK was recently opened up for iPhones, it's unlikely Apple will cripple this feature by not offering 64gb.

That 100 billion in the bank will sink FAST when you need to pay the paycheck for 99 thousand of employees and when you have low sales with empty stores. That 100 billion will last them 6-12 months at most if sales drop dramatically. Now that may not happen, but sales ARE dropping!

2016 will be the first year iPhone sales decline.

And just because they have 100 billion doesn't mean they "GET" it. Microsoft was and still is one of the most profitable companies in the world, doesn't mean they "GET" it either. It just means they are good at marketing and making a profit.

Your weak argument is actually an indication that you don't "GET" it.

And by the way, their 100 billion in the bank will actually be 60 billion after they bring the money to the US and pay the taxes.

Low range specs and paltry 4" screen for $500? I expect this phone to flop dramatically. At these prices you can get high-end Android phone with 32GB base storage.
For example, $500 gets you the latest 32 GB Nexus 6P with a 5.7" Quad HD display and 3 GB of RAM.

If this article is true I can't help but laugh. They already rebranded an old phone with "C" and now they're going to rebrand a 2 year old phone with "E" ...? If so, hilarity has replaced pride and quality.

I'm not sure you know how many zeroes a billion has.

I'm all for a small iPhone with 1GB RAM and new Samsung phones without microSD slots and removable batteries, Team Xperia needs all the help it can get.

Actually, Apple has over 200 billion. To put it into perspective, it's enough to cover their operating costs for 10+ years.

That being said, iPhone sales (all smartphone sales) are declining due to the less dramatic upgrade features. We're getting to the point where there is not much more you can add to a device, so people upgrade less often.

Technically, a profitable company does "get it". Consumers vote with their wallets, thus showing their support for a product. We learned that in high school. :)

Last time I checked they don't sell iPhones out of the back of the truck, so NO there's no "street price"
Every iPhone you buy will be retail price.

People in emerging markets have long moved on to devices larger than 5" and those have average selling price of $300.
So indeed Apple will fail if they do release this 4" phone at $500

Just so you know for the future... Street price does not mean "selling out of the back of a truck". It refers to the "price on the street" for a product. It's a retail term used for many consumer products. Manufactures define a suggested retail price and retailers sell it for usually something less than that. As you probably know, the $99 and Free phones are never $99 or free and both carry much higher manufacture suggested retail prices.

You're missing the point. The 6p is a phablet running Android, this is a small smartphone running iOS. I will file your comment under the same category as the old "I can build a tower PC with better specs for less money than a Mac Mini" comments.

I definitely understand your points, but you (and probably most of us on these forums) do not represent the entire market. A lot of people are perfectly happy to use the device as a phone and to stream music, read mail and exchange messages, check the news, shop for something, pay a few bills, that's about it. 32GB to them is like 128GB to me, like... overkill. I have tended to like 64GB on a phone but I haven't found 32GB a hassle with the 5c and I might even get a 16GB 4" phone (whatever Apple decides to name it) after I see the actual specs. The 64GB I used to favor was from before I had a mini iPad, and before music streaming.

I definitely understand that and the reasons why Apple refuses to raise the base storage. They can get away with it.

Though, if someone really is a light user like in your example and doesn't use the phone beyond basic functions, why do they need a $650 flagship phone to begin with? Couldn't they buy the "mid range" or "entry level" iPhone and save themselves some money while still receiving a good phone? It seems like the 16GB model is advertised toward those who don't need any of the phone's new features.

But I get it. There will always be people who want the newest iPhone regardless. There are tons of people who will buy the 16GB model because it's the cheapest. Thus, Apple has no reason to change it.

Those are contract prices not "STREET' prices. And those contract prices no longer exist because carriers are no longer selling them with contracts. And emerging markets never had subsidized prices to begin with.

This is exactly why Apple is allowed to get away with selling you old hardware for new prices. Don't kid yourself into believing they're doing this for anything other than profit. People are asking for the new phones to come in the old size. They're not asking for the same phone to be recycled with a new high price tag.

Look how quickly RIM collapsed, I know apple is a much bigger company but still..
