I'm just going to say it, won't make any sense if Apple doesn't put NFC/Apple Pay in this device. If they still hope to make a push for it. However, I personally would still go to the 4inch (with or without Apple Pay). As much as I personally like Apple Pay, it's just not wide spread enough, and I don't see Apple making enough effort for a push.

Apple is now making its efforts worldwide, focused on other countries adopting. Their adoption right now is less concerned with the terminals accepting it (expect a huge boost in that this holiday season thanks to new regulations) but with the banks adopting them as a payment processor.

Not gonna happen. This tier currently costs less than an iPhone 6 with an A8. Whether that stays the same, or changes to cost the same as an iPhone 6, it will not exceed the 6 by sporting an A9.
So don't make the 4" the low tier. Price it the same as the 6, or even the 6s. Where on earth did Apple get the idea smaller has to mean cheaper or less powerful? It's nonsense.

I'm perfectly willing to pay the top-tier price for a 4" phone with comparable features: A9, Apple Pay, force touch, etc. If they make it an iPhone 5s with an A8 then I'm not interested, even at the low end price tier.

I won't complain about an A8, as long as the battery/camera/internals are upgraded from the 5S and they add applepay.

Annoying that this is viewed as an entry-level model rather that something that can rival a current 6S, but that actually fits in one's pocket/doesn't slip out of one's hands when trying to hold it.
And please for the love of god make it look nice- none of these plastic garbage-colored skins like the 5C

That's fine by me, in that case it would simply become less relevant to average Apple Pay user (via terminal). Apple Pay Online has no special appeal to me, if I need to use such service, I'll just default back to Paypal.

Damn I wish I had known about this before I went to a 6S. The 6/6S are simply too big.

Pretty sure you will be able to get a good money back from you 6/6s that you can use to purchase the so called "new 4 inch iPhone".

Hope they won't put it at cost of $649 starting cost for it...

Otherwise you will probably put money in the pocket by selling your 6s for example.

Is it only me who thinks the 6 chassis is ugly? Could Apple not re use the 5S chassis with newer technology?
I think the 6S is horrible and the rounded edges make it hard to grip (no, I'm not buying a case!). Even the 3GS body was good

no one wants a 4 inch screen anymore.why would somebody go down to a 4 inch screen if they have a 4.7 or a 5.5 inch screen.a 4 inch screen is way to small this days.

For those people that sit at a computer all day long working instead of playing. I don't need a compuphone, I just need a good smart phone. The 4 inch size is just fine. If it is any larger it takes away space from my pocket revolver!

There are more than enough people who would prefer a 4" screen
Nobody needs more than 4" for taking pictures, messaging, Facebook and so on..
