I don't think it will drive too many customers away from Apple in the long run but it might mean they make their devices last a bit longer before upgrading.
I'm an happy Apple user, but in the last 12 months I had some problems in upgrading all my Apple's products: iPhone 5S (for my Wife), MacBook Pro 13", iPad Mini 4 and iPhone 6S ... do you math mate
If this trend continues, I would have problems to stay in the Apple ecosystem, and I'm surely NOT on a low wage...

Again, everyone is free to post a photo of a gun to their head but you have the choice NOT to buy it as it is purely a luxury item not a staple of survival.

Complaining on the internet falls on deaf ears. Not purchasing is your biggest statement.

Thats the problem that is going to be great for consumers. IF Apple doesn't shortchange us with specs then this is going to be a 5yr Tablet

- A9X
- Very Good Camera (for a tablet)
- 4GB RAM
- 32/128GB is plenty for two classes of customers
- Loud usable speakers
-10hr Battery
- Pencil Support
- Smart Connector
- LTE options

The only "missing" spec is Force Touch. But considering how it has been widely ignored by both app developers and users then that's not a big loss on a tablet. So, even at a price increase, this will be a great long term value for most.

Isn't the screen more expensive due to pencil support?
It is, because a different technology is required.
Assuming they are using the same tech used on the iPad Pro (very likely).

Give 20 examples of widely use apps that need mouse & keyboard
Not gonna bite the bait.
This thread is about IPAD PRO rumors.
Do you want to speak about Surface Pro or Windows ? There are other websites or section in this forum.
I can give ONE example of app that need mouse & keyboard: WINDOWS ITSELF.

Take of your Apple glasses. I agree with oopsroger, Apple is getting boring. Just look at the design of the iPhone 6/6s, it's nothing classy like the iPhone 5 of 5s and don't get me even started about that ugly Apple Watch. They just keep rebranding products: iPad -> iPad Mini -> iPad Air -> iPad Pro -> iPad Pro 9.7. Same goes for the iPhone SE, take the design of the iPhone 5s, put in iPhone 6s hardware = new phone. The Apple TV, same design, just a little bit bigger.

So, basically. You don't know what simply rebranding is and think the Mini and 12.9 Pro are simply rebranded iPads. You don't like the design of the 6/S, and you haven't actually used the new Apple TV to realize the difference is hardware. Honestly, it doesn't take an Apple person to see that more are being done with iPads than ever before. iOS finally is starting to make sense for the iPad.

I'd agree the Mac is stagnating, but there isn't really a lot to do with the stable desktop platform.

Oh, and the Apple Watch isn't ugly.

I thought you said "the vast majority". It shouldn't be too hard to find 20 examples.

They gotta find buyers before they can grab. I'm usually a "take my money please" guy when it comes to the latest and greatest 10" iPad but I'm a bit turned off. $1000 after tax for a 10" iPad is insane even by my impulsive buy standards. I can't see this turning out well once the early adopters have bitten.
How does the 10" iPad Pro come in at $1000 after tax?

No it's not. It's quite pathetic and there are basically NO "professional" apps for the touch interface.
eh, don't bother trying to explain it. I've stopped trying. Not everyone wants to use a tablet as a primarily-touch device. Many who use the Surface (Pro and non-Pro) use them as ultrabooks. The rudimentary user experience of using a Surface as a touch-only device satisfies those who would otherwise be satisfied with a $50 Chinese Android tablet. The Surface eliminates the need to tote that 2nd tablet.

Microsoft themselves acknowledges this. It is why Microsoft NEVER advertises the Surface without the optional TypeCover.

I hate this 32gb wifi only 128gb LTE plan they are using. 32gb could still use LTE!!!!!!!! I usually buy 16gb iPads to be honest.

If this is the case, it looks like I'll be going strong with my iPad Air 2 for another cycle.

So what happens to the Air 2? Does Apple refresh it with an A9X and rebrand it as just iPad? Launch an Air 3? If they discontinue the iPad Air as people are suggesting and they aren't willing to sell the Air 2 at $399, how do they hit that price point? A lot of questions, but we will soon have answers!

Wait, what? I thought iPad Pro meant the big model. Now you're going to have a regular size Pro and a big one too? Yeah, that's not going to confuse potential buyers. :(
We live in a world where people confuse Samsung Galaxy Tablet boxes with Apple iPad boxes (recalling that article about a customer who mistakenly bought a Samsung Tablet instead of an iPad); potential buyers are already stupid.

Whine whine, bitch bitch.

You people are insane. I've been holding off on a new iPad (I have a cracked 1st gen mini) and now if this holds true Apple has provided exactly what I'm looking for.
I think the complaint is that this is setting a new pricing structure that goes beyond just the iPad.

When Apple Products get upgrades in processors, RAM and screens then there isn't a price increase because this is just the way technology evolves. But if this is to be the Air3 then why is an optional pencil or keyboard suddenly a $100 TABLET increase? And more importantly, what faulty logic is Apple going to use to bounce the next iPhone price? (Are they going to charge extra for that dual camera rumor?)

I get what you're talking about and I'm happy for this product too. My hopes is that they'll include a pencil to justify the price.

Absolute rubbish, this is not true! The tech in the air 2 is now 2 years old, nothing justifies a higher price nor will it happen. And it won't be called a pro either... Jeez rumours are rumours

Why are people mad? You're getting an iPad Pro for $200 less with the only difference being 3" of screen. All of the other hardware will be the same (or comparable if not identical).
The bigger Pro itself is overpriced. People are mad because now the newest 9.7" iPad is also overpriced. Your conclusion seems logical but it's based on the assumption that people think the Pro price is just, and it's not.

I want a newer 9.7" iPad myself, but I don't need to pay a premium for pencil support I will never use. That premium should be tied exclusively to the cost of buying the pencil so I can opt out. And I'm not going to pay full price for the 1.5 yr old Air 2 tech either. Apple says iPad sales are down, but there is literally no upgrade targeted at me for me to spend my money on. I want a current tech 9.7" iPad just like I've been buying for years.

Geez 20 is a pretty big number there, I'm not going to come up with that many since that's just crazy but I will give my personal experience.

Well for one the internet experience on a Win 10 tablet sucks without a M+K. Edge works ok but pages don't resize that well and addons still aren't supported which sucks for those of us who use password managers (yes I know addons are coming very soon). Chrome works alright but again still doesn't resize and Google being Google it's UI hasn't been updated to work well with touch so it's really clunky using those addons. FireFox is alright as well and they made a couple things about the interface better for touch but it still kind of sucks, also the on screen keyboard doesn't pop up automatically for some god forsaken reason.

Really anything you want to do on Win 10 is much better with a M+KB since there are so few decent tablet focused apps for Win 10. Good luck having a decent experience with youtube or pocket on a Win 10 tablet (3rd party apps exist but the best ones aren't great). The Twitter app JUST got updated to support their newest features months after Android and iOS.

The office apps are pretty good, as they should be, but even they are finicky. On my Surface 3 the touch version of one note had a couple wide spread bugs that would pop up after about an hour of use that would require you to restart the computer to fix, this on the device that was made for note taking with one note.

Finally my biggest complaint was the ability to just pick up and use the thing. Half the time there would be a long update that I had to sit through, and even when there wasn't it would still take about a minute to start from sleep. Normal things to deal with when it comes to a regular computer but horribly aggravating on a tablet.

Sorry everyone this ended up way longer than I meant it to be, didn't mean to side track the thread so much!
