The iPad lineup...

iPad mini 2, iPad mini 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (9.7"), iPad Pro (12.9"), each with 2-3 storage sizes, 2-3 colours, Wifi models and LTE models.

Yeah, that's not confusing at all. I feel bad for people who want to buy an iPad. The odds of you getting the one that's just right for you are pretty low.
I think they will drop the original iPad Air and sell the iPad Air 2 as the budget model.

A company that can get people to pay $650 for a 16gb phone with a sub 1080 p screen does not need to lower its prices.
I stop reading you when you wrote about the "sub 1080P", since is a pointless argument...
You'd better buy a Samsung phone, with a full list of "I have more " useless features. You'll be happier

You are the one complaining about Apple pricing, not me. You said they need to drop the price of the iPad air 2, my point is they don't.

I'm complaining about price policy, not technical choices.
On the technical side I think Apple 's products are just the best and better balanced on the market.
But their price policy is verging unacceptability...

It's a bigger leap in name only.
You don't even know technical specs and you draw conclusions...
If rumors are true (with a big IF), an A9X, 4 Gb, four speakers and the support for Apple Pencil ARE a big leap

Everyone's arguing with current iPad Pro specs in mind.
A9X is expected and nothing earth shattering, considering A8X is 1.5 years old. (It is the best mobile SoC in the world, but so was the A8X when it debuted).
RAM was increased multiple times in the past and not once was price increased. So was the screen and the speakers etc. The only thing different this time is 32 gb vs 16 gb, and if that's worth $100 in 2016, I don't know what to say really.

The ram isn't a selling point ? Actually the ram IS the point, if we really want "Pro" apps to come to iOS ...
I really hope Apple is going to put 4 Gb on the iPad Pro 9,7".

The problem is that this isn't 2013 anymore.
NANDs prices are lower today, and Apple should sell a 32 Gb model at the same price they used to sell the 16 Gb model.
With Apple nand prices has never been a issue. NAND is a few bucks more in BOM.
Price of nand is like drop on a hot plate.
Ok, I am glad Apple decided to release this iPad Pro, they could have gone for a thinner and lighter iPad air3, with 3gb, a faster clocked a9 and upgraded cams, 16gb and no pencil support, no smart connector for 499.
But the problem is , Apple didn' t do that. Perhaps they should have released an iPad Air 3 and a 9,7 pro at the same time.
Let the buyer decide which one to get.

But I can tell you, if they did that, these forums would have gone mad.
Most customers think Apple has an obligation to put all features and newer tech in the product they want.

Now the pro product line is ready to take off, we' ll see a lot more of these discussions.
With the iPhone 7, some will be pissed that the iPhone 7 pro will have better specs for a higher price than the regular iPhone 7.
But they forget the regular iPhone 7 will still be a very nice and stellar upgrade from the 6s for the same price and demand Apple to put the better tech of the pro in the reg smaller iPhone 7 for the same price. They feel Apple is obliged to do so....
But Apple isn' t. They have an obligation , when they release a new iPhone at the same price, that it has newer tech, faster, etc than the last version.

You forget 16gb more storage.. :)
Lol , you are so emotional about this.
Ok, so tell me what would you have expected from an iPad Air 3 for 499,
What would be the main reason for you to upgrade to an air 3?
I dont mind a small spec upgrade for the same price. But slapping pro on it and charging more is slapping customers in the face.

Yes, but that is very personal, since you don' t want the pencil support obviously.
So if Apple released a thinner iPad air 3 with an upgraded soc and camera with 16gb storage , no smart connector and pencil support, it would have been fine with you? And Apple would be less greedy when they would have taken that approach?
They can still do that though, and still release the pro, perhaps in September /October there will be an air 3 16gb at 499 and offer the air 2 for a 100 less.

I usually update update my iPad with the big updates, but I guess not in this case. Its hard to justify $500 iPad just because you can use a stylus with it. My Air 2 does everything extremely well. Maybe the best updrade for the iPad is not a hardware one but a software one. Just like we moved from OS 9 to OS X, maybe its time for iOS to move to the new OS.

but we still can't judge until Apple officially announces whats new...

It is funny you put down Samsung for having better specs but defend this rumored iPad's price increase by listing spec after spec of the new iPad. A rumor of 4GB of ram in the iPad and you think it is a pro device lol. My 3 year old Note 3 has 3GB of ram.

If he wants his iPad comparison so badly: I think the step from iPad 2 to iPad 3 (Retina Display) and iPad 4 to iPad Air (much lighter and powerful) can be totally considered equal in terms of "profound" to what we expect as an update now, especially for people who don't have any intended use for an additional $100 Apple Pencil (= almost all people who are not working as an graphic/drawing artist or similar. Probably 90% or higher.)

The market for Pencil users would be larger if it cost less than $100.

I am asking myself if the pencil will be something worthy to buy for me as a person who doesn't do any drawing or similar on the iPad. I have to admit that – contrary to what Jobs envisioned – I like using a stylus on my iPhone/iPad to browse faster in Apps and Safari (more precise to click on small hyperlinks etc.) and, furthermore I hate fingerprint and smudges holocaust all over the display (cleaning it with a cloth really is Sisyphus work ...). Will it be worthy to buy an Apple pencil just for that? Probably not, as least $100 surely wouldn't be worth it for the better active electronic precision and feeling in comparison to a $5-$20 dollar stylus. I'll try out the pencil sometimes in the Apple Store nevertheless.

lol so many apple fanboys justifying this.

Later this year, if apple introduces iphone 7 with new features and so many upgrades to cpu and camera and then increase the base price to $750, will you accept it? Yes or No?

While we didn't see a price increase from iPhone 5s to iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 to 6s, they did introduce a bigger screen with a few different features in the Plus models for $100 more.

It's all subjective based on what you perceive as value based on what you pay and what you'll use it for. Yes, the screen size is the same, but the iPad is my main device, period. This is true for both work and leisure. I'm involved in a line of work that will utilize these new features and be incredibly useful for me.

The 12" iPad Pro is too massive for me, but this size is the sweet spot for me and the work I do. I, for one, am looking forward to using the pencil on this model of the iPad Pro if it is indeed released on Monday.

I believe that Apple will come to regret this price rise.

Before the downturn in sales each and every new release introduced fantastic features at the same price as the previous revision. The result - groundbreaking sales figures. iPad 1 was the first real tablet, iPad 2 had a vastly improved form factor that completely redefined how you could use the device, upgrading was a no-brainer. iPad 3 (and within six month the iPad 4) had the incredible retina screen which once again drove upgrades and new buyers.

Since the heights of those heady days all we've had is a slight reduction in form factor and spec bumps (iPad Air 1+2). The result - sales are in freefall. Sure - the iPad Pro will be great for those who buy and make use of the expensive keyboard and pencil but I would estimate 90% of the public use tablets for content consumption so you're asking the general public to pay a lot more for a spec bump, brighter screen and better sound. I just don't see it being a successful strategy.

They keyboard case is even worse considering it's not lap friendly and angles are not adjustable.

Yep. You're essentially paying $100 more than the last model so you can have the opportunity to buy $270 more in accessories.

If the Air 2 stays in the lineup with no changes and still at $499 then Apple is really trying to kill it off in favor of the Pro. Personally I think Apple should do that. People who just want a pure consumption device can buy a mini and those who want more than that can get a Pro.

Damn lol. And what we reckon prices in $ will be for 128gb wifi only and 128gb LTE will be? Already put my iPad 3rd generation on eBay but don't think will give me much to put towards this new model.

I'm replacing my iPad 4.

The thing is so sluggish, now. It's really quite horrible to use.

I bought a day one iPad Pro, but the thing was way too big for my use.

I've been waiting for this upgrade for ages, so I'm eagerly awaiting Monday.

I hope you get a decent price for your iPad 3.

All the best ;-)
