Could have better camera's and possibly 2nd gen Touch ID. May annoy some current Pro owners.

Considering the smaller one is by default much more portable, a better camera makes actual sense in the smaller pro.
The big one is starting to be a bit absurd with a camera.
Someone who is using that Ipad as a viewport is likely doing so from a DSLR camera which is on some other smaller rig.
A better touch ID I could possibly understand though touch ID is less critical on an Ipad.

Absolutely true. But the problem is that this share is shrinking. And Apple went through this process before when they were selling very profitable computers with a rapidly shrinking market share. They are doing much better this time around. They learned at least some lessons. Their prices are not as outrageous as, for example, Apple Lisa had. So that's good. But they also should listed to people and watch what is going on with competitor offerings and people opinions.

Apple before had low margins and low market share (in the 1990s). Its Ipad and Iphone shares worldwide will always be low, there is not way around this. If you look at price curves, if Apple cuts price by 50%, they're not compensating this by 50% more volume, that's the danger of going down market.

As you go downmarket, profits fall much faster than revenue grows, your R&D money falls, your product becomes barely differentiated, revenues fall further as anyone can now compete with you on feature and eventually you die if one small economic downturn happens one year or your competitor has one 1-2 good years.

Apple has had 80% of PC profits while having 5% of the market; that's what keeps it in business.

Everyone talking about "Jobs this" and "Jobs that" forget that Jobs found out after what happened to Apple in the 1980s and 1990s that going for market share without profit is a fools gold.

I can't stand all manufacturers charging a surplus for cellular option. I mean, we're talking about portable devices. But with this 32 no LTE to 128 LTE option Apple stands out as always.
I'd be fine with charging extra for a cellular option, I just wish there were cellular options that were priced decently for occasional use when not within WiFi range.

i'm betting that Apple will kill off the iPad Air line... having four iPads make zero sense. Apple will not make an iPad Air 3, but will keep the Air 2 around for a few more years till it dies off. The iPad Mini is safe because it's the perfect note pad run and gun iPad

How long does it usually take for the new products to reach the stores following an announcement? I.e. if the new iPad is available online right after the keynote, can we expect the iPads to be in-store the next day?

As you and others have remarked the software is lagging behind it's hardware at this point.

Not really.

Who wants to do video and audio editing without a pointer device? Poking at the screen propped up by the wobbly floppy smart cover. The hardware is not ready for prime time. Its a pro sketch book at this time.

Oh, and developers bringing osx pro software to ios--its never happening

So, where is the iPad Air 3?

Even worse, LTE still costs $130 more for about 10 cents worth of hardware.
I still don't know why they don't make all of them LTE capable.

LTE contains a lot of technology that must be licensed, which is why the LTE models jump substantially in price even in the Android tablets.

fair but iPad Pro "base model" (for base Pros) still is a 799 dollars portable device with no cellular connection

Right. LTE ought to be available on any sized storage device too. Nope, you're stuck with the highest end storage model now to get cellular support. Sorry, like Kevin oleary says on shark tank.... "I'm out".

Should be 32gb for $499 and 64gb for $599. Diappointing bc my iPad Air has 32gb and I find that too small and just assumed the next model would have 64gb for me to upgrade too. 128gb is excessive and the price point is too high for me to consider.

I bought a Samsung galaxy tab s in between the announcement and it's a great tablet, nothing I can't do with that I don't need the pencil and drawing capability and the Amoled screen is top notch.

I have to much invested in iTunes movies, so buying a Galaxy won't work for me.

Instead of releasing iPad Air 3, Apple is going to release the Pro and jack up the price. Next thing you know they will discontinue the Pro and release the "Elite" and jack up the price.

Are people really surprised about price? $100 also includes whatever tech the current Air 2 lacks to make the pencil work, which if you haven't tried it, is awesome. There are lots of cheap tablets out there that work pretty well if price is an issue, including older iPad mini models that still work really well for most applications.

Apple is NEVER going to pass savings onto consumers. That has never been their model, and their model has proven very successful for their bottom line. There are so many great and affordable consumer tech products available today at every price point. Even a $100 tablet is a lot better than it has any right to be. We are spoiled by options. It didn't use to be this way.
