It's supposed to be regular Qi-charging on the wireless charging case, correct? I'm currently using the Samsung EP-PG920I everywhere as it was a nice and cheap wireless charger from a reputable brand when I got my iPhone X.

But charging the AirPods 2 with the wireless charging case is not all that easy. It lights up and the case chargers when you put in onto the middle of the charger but after 5 minutes+ it just stops. I have taken it on and off the charger for like 5 times total and I have only moved from 30% to 60% charge on the case.

Mine were at 70% out of the box and charged to 100% on a mophie charger. The light didn’t stay on all the time though it turned off a few seconds after I placed the AirPods on the mat. Is it supposed to be like that?

People want to believe when they buy the new model it's better than the old model so they convince themselves it's actually better, when in fact it's likely just the same.
Exactly. If they truly wanted audio quality they would get a good pair of wired over ear headphones. The AirPod is a fashion product for light music listening.

There's no change in the speaker quality. It's just that the AirPods everyone has had already have clogged with ear wax and the new ones are clean, so they sound loud and clear. This has gone in since EarPods and the same design is still present. These new ones will degrade the same way.

Exactly! When I cleaned might out it made a huge difference in sound quality.

I'm still questioning if it was worth spending money on the 2nd gen's. Don't really need the wireless case and Hey Siri will be nice at times. I bought them anyway and I'm most excited about the improved up connection times. That was always my least favorite part about the Airpods. The weird times when they would get confused about what device they should use.

I find the sound quality of AirPods (1st gen) to be quite average. I was actually disappointed the first time that I heard them. Now, given the small package and utility, they're worth the sacrifice (I personally don't mind wired headphones but whatever). However I certainly wouldn't put their sound in the "great" category.

This will be interesting to follow. Terrific news for everyone if it's true.

From Apple's website:

Performance you’ll want to hear.
Powered by the all-new Apple H1 headphone chip, AirPods deliver a faster and more stable wireless connection to your devices — up to 2x faster when switching between active devices,3 and a 1.5x faster connection time for phone calls.4The H1 chip also drives voice-enabled Siri access and delivers up to 30 percent lower gaming latency.5 So whether you’re playing games, listening to music, or enjoying podcasts, you’ll experience higher-quality sound.
There it is.

Lol at people commenting about Wax on other peoples AirPods and completely dismissing their opinion about sound quality! Even though they yet have to try it.

It's the only way some people can be happy and feel good about themselves.

This is debatable.

How do you define "quality".

Quality could be defined as longer connection times. Because of the "faster switching" I am now connected to my device longer and hence hearing music longer and hence that could be considered higher quality.

Higher quality could be defined as better latency and hence I can hear my sounds faster when I play my game.

Higher Quality could be defined as more bits in the audio.

The picture from the previous article was for the AirPods Charging Case packaging, not for full-blown AirPods. No idea why that would be different, but that's the difference.

When is that going to ship? I thought AirPods and the charge case are all 'now shipping"

Yeah that's some pretty weasely ad copy there. If the connection quality is better, and you therefore get fewer occasions of crackles or drops, then yes that certainly "sounds better". But when that's not happening they sound exactly the same.

Remember people:
  1. Sound is subjective
  2. Audio Quality varies
  3. Some people can’t fit these in ears
  4. Some people think they do/don’t fit in ears yet don’t even know how to put earphones in correctly.

Sound quality is objectively measurable. What in the world are you on about?

On that note, it would be great if someone could do some objective tests on the mics on these things.

The mics on the 1st Gen airpods were awful compared to wired earpods they are supposed to replace.

That meant I had to go back to wired for phone calls, to not fatigue the party on the other end.

Did BeatsX headphones get a firmware update as well? Mine are now version 7.0.3 but I don’t know if that changed since moving to iOS 12.2.

No noticeable sound difference with these 2nd gen Air pods versus my 1st gen Air pods so these are Definitely going back.

You know, I've actually tried to clean mine a few times with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol but I still don't feel like they're as good as they used to be. Have any tips?

I got some of these: UHU Patafix Glue Pad Removable Reusable White 80 pads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CL5S22E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4iPMCbXTRSYGS that I use a tiny bit of to pull the wax out first (you can roll it up and use it several times), then I use isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip to clean more thoroughly afterwards. Works like a charm! Hope that helps

Why do people keep obsessing over "audio quality" in a bluetooth earphone? It sounds alright for out and about like every other earphone.

Because people care about the audio quality of an audio device that they're paying up to $200 to own?

Anybody notice a strange click on the lid. There appears to be some give when pushing the lid left to right and back again which seems a little flimsy...?

The lights on the AirPod Charging Case its supposed to turn off. But my Samsung charger has a bright blue light underneath it that is always on as long as it's charging something. That one is not supposed to turn off.
