Do you feel better now?
[doublepost=1553626266][/doublepost]
Maybe something was mistyped or I’m misreading, but how do you know the new ones are better if you never used the old ones?

I’m able to try them both in my ears, while both pairs are in brand new condition. Pretty simple. You must be fun at parties.

It doesn't appear I was the only one to ask the question, didn't exactly make the point you were making clear. Sorry for inquiring. Sheesh.

I’m hoping some stores will start discounting their left over gen1 stocks. Mine still works fine but would be good to have another for back up. Don’t need the new Siri feature and I’m sure the audio quality will be the same.

If you buy new AirPods 1 and new AirPods 2 they will both sound the same.

If you compare your new AirPods 2 with your airwax filled AirPods 1 then AirPods 2 will sound better.

Until Apple makes a pair of in-ear headphones that stay in my ear, I will continue using my $15 corded headphones from Amazon that NEVER COME OUT. Or my $25 bluetooth that NEVER COME OUT.

The AirPods have the ergonomics of the Sony headphones from 1988. Apple is, and always will be, form over function.

Can "Hey Siri" be invoked if it is not set as an option? i.e I have my left one set to play/pause and the right to skip to next song. In that scenario, would I still be able to invoke Siri?

I only bought them because the battery on my first pair have degraded significantly and I’m having connection issues, e.g only one will pair and having to put it back in the box. They also don’t always charge back up to 100% or I’ll take them out of the box and one will be 98% and the other is like 60% of 20 %. If they were still working well I wouldn’t have bothered getting another pair this time.

So jealous. I’ve got to wait until Thursday for mine now. They were coming tomorrow but I had to reschedule the delivery as I’m working all day tomorrow.

The charge contacts in the case gets dirty. Some good quality contact cleaner on a qtip will fix the non-charging pod quick. (So bottom of case are charge contacts - gently put contact cleaner on them - and don't rub it all off if it is the good stuff like DeoxIT contact spray)

Then clean the silver parts on the ear pods with same contact cleaner - and you should be back at full charge potential and not get the non-charging issues.

Why would Apple improve the sound quality and not tell anyone?

They specifically said in the press release that sound quality is improved.

Exactly. If they truly wanted audio quality they would get a good pair of wired over ear headphones. The AirPod is a fashion product for light music listening.

Airpods are not a fashion product. In fact, people still nonsensically complain about how ugly they are, as though having wireless earpieces is somehow worse than having wires dangling everywhere.

Airpods are the most functional, useful, and convenient Apple product I've used in the last five years.

Until Apple makes a pair of in-ear headphones that stay in my ear, I will continue using my $15 corded headphones from Amazon that NEVER COME OUT. Or my $25 bluetooth that NEVER COME OUT.

Some people, such as myself, have body proportions that are hard to fit. I'm quite tall and thin, with long legs and arms. Few brands make clothes that fit me well. What do I do? I find brands that do. I don't write letters to the mainstream brands complaining that they design products that fit the majority of people. Neither should you.

Airpods fit the vast majority of people who try them, as evidenced by their wild popularity. If they don't fit you, I sympathize, but that's not Apple's problem. You can't expect them to have you come in for a customized ear mold.

On something you've shoved in your ears? I hope not.

Technically the new AirPods should have distinctly better Siri/call quality. They use Bluetooth 5 with better audio codecs. The older version (as with most similar bluetooth devices) significantly degrade sound quality when a mic is activated.

Could anyone with a Mac and the new AirPods check which codecs are used?

- Start listening to music or video
- Hold Option key and click on Bluetooth menu bar icon

- Start a new audio recording in QuickTime (or call using FaceTime)
- Hold Option key and click on Bluetooth menu bar icon again

"Got new AirPods! Much better sound quality in FaceTime and Siri. Faster switching between devices. Worth upgrading from first gen only if your battery is dying. - Vladislav Kuznetsov (@v1597psh) March 26, 2019"

Wait, how long is the lifespan of the battery inside AirPods? Do you have to buy a new pair every 1 or 2 years?

Why do people keep obsessing over "audio quality" in a bluetooth earphone? It sounds alright for out and about like every other earphone.

Maybe it matters to them? Remember this stuff can be highly subjective. Just because you don't share the same opinion doesn't mean it's not important to someone else.

Any potential for Bluetooth 5 being the anecdotal cause of the debate? Is it possible that using these on an iPhone 8+ will sound better than Bluetooth 4 devices?

Just because there is a debate doesn't mean it's not possible and purely placebo. There are actual hardware changes going on here.
If you just want quality Bluetooth headphone options, for roughly the same cost:

Personally, I use Sennheiser wired over-the-ear headphones, no longer an option with Apple iOS devices.

I listed my AirPods gen 1 on eBay and listed a buy it now price of $100 earlier today just to see. They sold in 15 minutes.

I am honestly surprised somebody would pay $100 for used GEN one AirPods. (Unless you had AppleCare included and under warranty), clearly that eBay buyer didn’t research the market before purchasing, because you can find used AirPods for approximately $75 in excellent condition without AppleCare.

I got the gen 1 AirPods on release day back in December 2016, and now I got gen 2 on release day. I've listened to those OG AirPods every day over these past couple years, but the battery sucks now. I honestly do not hear a difference between gen 1 and gen 2 at all. They feel the same and they sounds the same...at least to me. I'm just more excited to not have to keep constantly charging these things anymore!
