I must be slowing down in my old-ish age. Ever since these complaints of the animations slowing you down from interacting with the OS in no less than .01 seconds, I've been wondering "what am I missing here?"

Personally, I like the zoom in/out effect. I'm not arguing that it's fast or slow, I honestly just don't care. Seriously, .5 seconds isn't going to impact my day. What is going to piss me off is crashes, which I'm praying will have been resolved in 7.0.3.

I didn't mind the parallax effect but didn't like how it distorted my walls so I turned Reduce Motion off. Now I can't have zoom without parallax but I'll get over it.

Ultimately, all this bickering is amusing.

Give it up man, you've been scientifically disproven.

According to the source you are using as your "scientific" proof, the only one of your interaction speed increase claims that has been validated is the speed of interaction after unlocking your device. The test results from that site seem to indicate that other interactions are not perceptibly faster. It would be interesting to see a test on the speed at which one can interact after both types of animations in more situations. One thing I have noticed from using both methods is that while you can launch apps at the same speed if you know where they are on the screen after closing apps etc. regardless of the animation style it is easier with reduce motion on, due to being able to see where the apps are more easily.

Regardless of the results in that specific test though, all in all the option to disable/change the zooming animations is a positive. In general, options are a good thing. Some people like the fade animations more and some people were having motion sickness issues.

Bah!! its still not fast enough, I want it to anticipate my selection and open before I even touch it, Cmon Apple. Sheesh you guys are so doomed...

I really wish they had left the ability to turn off parallax without getting rid of the rest of the animations. I really liked them. Yes they needed to add the option to reduce all of the motion, but they didn't have to make it completely black and white.

Ok guys,

Got a ****** comparison video for you all. I used 120fps video to line up the EXACT moments I unlocked and tapped the apps. The only difference I've seen is when unlocking the phone. It's a big difference, and I'm happy about it. But everything else is basically the same. Sorry for the crappy editing, I had limited time on the new iMovie for iOS. The update for iMovie is fantastic though.

Also, what I did on the first test was unlock the phone and open/close all my apps in the dock as fast as possible.

Still not scientific by any means, but good job splicing it all together...good comparison.

Thanks man. Yeah definitely not scientific. But it's clear to my eyes that the only benefit is unlocking the phone and getting faster access to the home screen.

Problem is the fadeup of black when you first touch the unlock button. THAT's what's really slowing the unlock process down.

Ok, so what about for those of us who still like the animations? Are they at least faster? What about the choppy iPad gestures , fixed?

These need to change! I love the animations, they just feel like they're at half speed. They either need to speed them up, or add an "animation speed" option like they did for dynamic text size.

They're faster in the Apple ad's, so I don't see why - if they don't like the speed they're at - they don't change them?

Plus - that iPad gesture animation -_- I mean - really, Apple?

nah, I say is nothing to do w/ animations which take the same time, but is 'slower' in the unlocking because of the parallax effect and having to reload it to a second wallpaper.

Thanks for alerting me to the update and the Reduce Motion improvement

It's much better now haha

Seriously, .5 seconds isn't going to impact my day.

It does for me when that .5 second delay accumulates to 600x a day. You just have low standards for performance. To me, it was completely unacceptable as at the end day these devices are just tools to me and I want them to work as quickly as possible, not have pretty but useless animations.

I was not sick because of the animations, just sick of the animations.

Agree with above poster, animations are superfluous, LETS FLATTEN THOSE ANIMATIONS.

The new reduced animations in 7.0.3 are so much better then the slow trickle animations of the past. Everything is 2-5x faster to accomplish now. I can tap on a folder and interact with the icons instantly, I can get to the home screen twice as fast. Finally Apple gets it right with animations, might not even need to JB now.

No they are not better, because they are STILL there. They will only be better once you have the option to turn them off totally.

Well, that can mostly be done now as of iOS 7.0.3 using the reduce motion accessibility setting.

iOS 7 animations feeling slow? Try "Reduce Motion"

New in 7.0.3... If you go into accessibility and toggle on "reduce motion", almost every animation all turn into a fast fade. It's pretty cool.

It makes it a bit better, but the large gap in touch response still exists, sadly.

man, you must really get a lot of work done opening and closing apps that many times a day. Maybe you should try hanging out inside an app where there is no animation lag. It's a lot easier to get things done when you stay in the app and don't constantly jump between them 600x a day.
