BTW, how do you play ? Apple Remote ? iPhone ? PSx Controller ?

I am using SteelSeries Nimbus.
I'm using two Xbox controllers which I bought (second hand) for using with my iPad (and sometimes cast to my tv I know there is some delay we are no hardcore games) together with the kids. The amount of games in the 'regular' App Store which are pay once without in-app/ads/coins is limited (I found only 25) though to play locally with two controllers but they do exist. The amount of games in the main App Store which are pay once where you can use a controller are 410.

Good. The sooner games leave this joke of a service, the sooner they can become available to buy on the App Store and Steam.

But a big chance that they will then be added as a game with tons of in-app purchases and/or ads no thank you. Only a few developer will go for premium pay once I'm afraid.

Maybe if they helped bring Dark Castle back to Mac/iOS.

Or LittleWing's most excellent (Japanese-made pinball games) Crystal Caliburn, etc.

Or gee.... I dunno.... maybe some of the legendary Mac sharewares, like Ambrosia's Escape Velocity. And maybe a modern reprise of Bungie's Marathon (1, 2, 3), etc.

A smattering of AAA games is also necessary for Arcade to take off. Too bad Arcade doesn't have a single AAA port from porting houses like Aspyr and Feral.

And Apple needs to stop being a wholesome Church Lady nanny-state company. Bring modernized versions of Leisure Suit Larry games to Apple Arcade! 🕺🕺🕺💃🕺🕺👯‍♂️
That would be cool indeed. Would love to play again some classic bigger and smaller Mac games on my iPad like:

- Daedalus Encounter
- Around the world game in Compton's / EA / ABCs 3D Atlas from '97/'98

Btw some of the classic versions (not modernized) do exist in the regular App Store such as Marathon 1, Marathon Infinity (both free+, with in-app) and Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded (1.99 euro)

My era of gaming is long gone and isn’t coming back. I bought CD/DVD era games where the entire game was in the disk. I live in a rural area and the internet wasn’t (and quite frankly still isn’t for many of my neighbors) a usable option. And games seem to require online connectivity anymore, even if it’s only to push some pay add on feature or object. There are likely exceptions but most game publishers want to offer pay loot boxes and players seem to want to buy them.

Then it wasn't a good game to begin with. There's a reason gamers write off mobile gaming. This is why.

And this is the reason that serious gamers are now more of a niche market. Publishers love selling add ins and customization features to people that care more about a cool looking character or weapon or vehicle than really thoughtful gameplay. Put an obstacle into a game that makes succeeding in that section even moderately difficult and then offer a device that will make it easier and a lot of people will buy it. Technically not “required” to get through but it may be the difference between taking a couple of hours on a level or section to being frustrated even after a couple of days.

Dedicated gamers will pay more for involved games and spend more time online playing to learn about the world they are in than a casual player. But publishers make more money off the casual player overall by selling ‘beat this specific situation gizmo’ that are usually worthless after that obstacle.

A lot of people weighing in with snark. Keep in mind though, these aren't getting removed because they were too popular. These are the games which people aren't playing. I'm really sorry for the devs who made them, but people wanting to piss on Apple Arcade because they wouldn't want to play *these* games are making very childish arguments. The AA people weren't playing them either. Dread Nautica makes me sad. I really wanted to enjoy that one. It just... was kind of a slog. I kept thinking I'd go back to it. Oh well.
