If this is correct I'd simply use your education discount. These prices aren't very "enticing".

I agree and was leaning toward the same decision - thanks for the input. I'm so restless and impatient since I haven't had my own working laptop for months now after 4 years of having my own (I'm such a spoiled youth). I had an HP Envy 15 for 1 day and then returned it (it was one of the worst designed machines I've ever used) and am anxiously anticipating the purchase of the uMBP :).

Anyone calling these deals weak or not enticing doesn't know the history.

1. Apple sales are doing well, as always.

2. The have never had the sort of Black Friday "doorbuster" or other type discounts that people line up for. $100 off a Mac 1 day a year is all you will get.

3. You don't see Porsche or Audi dealers slashing 20% off certain models for one day only. Don't expect Apple to as well.

You get very good products and here is your opportunity to get slightly better savings though many of you already know that you can get out of tax and get rebates all year long through Amazon and other online etailers.

Are these black friday discounts usually available in physical Apple stores as well? Or is it an online-only thing?

Correct.

A deep one-day discount would just cause long-term damage to the brand and resentment amongst those who missed the sale or who found the sale to not fit with their purchase cycle.

Apple's sales are so strong, they basically bucked the entire recession. There is no reason for them to take deep discounts.

Wow, look at those crazy savings............................................................

Looks pretty similar to bestbuy, I might get mine there early instead of waiting till friday

If this leak is real should I even bother waiting until Friday to order a uMBP 17"? I've been waiting to see what to expect on Black Friday, but it seems as if the discounts will be much less than that of the Education Store. I was gonna see if my Mother could find out if her government run institution has an EPP program - but she's never mentioned one for Apple although she has for Dell, so I think waiting until Friday with the hope of her finding out about that so I could stack the EPP discount with the Apple BF sale discount is silly. Any input for me?

i believe the edu discount has almost always been a better deal. so you might as well order now.

Odd

Doesn't it seem a little odd that the low end Macbook is $100 dollars off when they are only giving $50 for the 17"? Maybe its just me.

so i take it you dont own any apple products since if apple products reduced to sale prices aren't good enough, surely apple products at regular price aren't good enough.

No im saying that its not worth buying anything now just because of the sale, unless you actually NEED to buy a new mac.

Well I just took the plunge and ordered with student discount since the Black Friday ad was junk. Good luck to you all.

Even though I am eligible for the EDU discount, it's the tax that kills it for me. Online retailers give the same discount as the EDU or the thanksgiving savings anyway, and you save on tax via buying online. Even after online shipping, at 7% tax I save about $125 for the imac i7 by not buying from apple. I hate to mess about with rebates etc. (when I buy from Macmall), but the $125 difference is too much to ignore.

Corporate discount

Now with these discounts is that on retail cost only or have you in the past been able to apply them on top of education/corporate discounts?

I've always been able to combine my corp discount w/black Friday pricing in the past. I'm hoping it's the same this year. Sorry about the edu situation.

Well, technically, you don't. You are still responsible for paying the tax. It's just that a company without a presence in your state who is selling to you is not responsible for collecting it.

I called my local Apple store and they said whatever is being offered online will be offered at the store as well.

They are $1 more discounts then the standard EDU discount.

Both.

1. Apple sales are doing well, as always.
Okay?

2. The have never had the sort of Black Friday "doorbuster" or other type discounts that people line up for. $100 off a Mac 1 day a year is all you will get.
That is the argument: only time the average Joe can walk into an Apple retail location and get a discount

3. You don't see Porsche or Audi dealers slashing 20% off certain models for one day only. Don't expect Apple to as well.
Everyone presumed the 20% to be ridiculous.

You still have to pay tax, unless you live in a state that doesn't charge tax. The retailer just isn't required to charge it up front like Apple does.

Depending n the school, the EDU discount normally is $1 less.

:(
I was hoping for a deeper discount on the Magic Mouse.... like $49.
It's brand new, check a third party.

You can still do better with either an employee or the education discount....
The employee yes, other has been answered above.

Well, technically, you don't. You are still responsible for paying the tax. It's just that a company without a presence in your state who is selling to you is not responsible for collecting it.
Thank you. Finally, someone that understands that little rule.

Typical Apple discounts for black Friday. Personally I'd do better shopping elsewhere. I'm not buying now, so like.... whatever.

Do you guys know if B&H Photo holds a black Friday sale? Will
they have more extensive sales on Friday than what they currently offer?

Those prices are nice!
I can only wish to live in USA, since here most of the computers are at least $300 + 5% tax. I still don't get why people in USA cry about the prices there. That people earn way more money compared to what other people in other counties does.
Apple prices today are more than competitive and offers a lower TCO than the rest of the industry using windows. Just enjoy black friday!

^^^link?

People may earn more money in the US, but it sure costs more to live.

Right. The USA leans mre towards pure capitalism than other countries. Things are cheaper because we don't have that much taxes (compared to eu and others), and people here have more money because we have one of the lowest income taxes in the world. But by paying less taxes we have to pay more to support ourselves, whereas in other places taxes go towards that. I personally like the way the USA is, keep what you earn and spend on what you want to spend on instead of other telling you how to spend your money.

Ah, no thanks.

The new Apple In-Ear Headphones for US$74? I could get them cheaper at a couple of "brick and mortar" stores. And no discounts on the 6.5G iPod classic, either.

In México (unless you cross the border), the closest thing we have for a black Friday is a Liverpool VIP night sale where you can get up to 25% off regular price or other kind of deal like 12 o 18 months no interest financing and 20 or 25% money back to spend in the store. Last Saturday got my 32 GB iPod Touch with 25% off for*3,675 pesos (275 USD) when the regular regular price is 4900 pesos (366 USD). That makes it 24 USD cheaper than 32GB iPod touch (299). I think is a pretty good deal considering the fact that people need to travel to USA for Black friday.
