The dimensions of that keyboard are roughly the size that the actual keys are on the current one. Maybe they've gotten rid of the border around the keys?

I do wonder why there is an X'ed out trash can on the bottom of the mouse. I thought Apples goals where to eliminate hazzardous materials from all Apple devices.

Dave

Could be that it has the same battery design as the macbook pro, that is not user replaceable and you have to send it in to be replaced. Giving the don't throw it in the trash. Or it could be that so many mighty mice got thrown in the trash that it's a hope that Apple legal can stop people doing this with the new mouse. :)

So they made the mouse multi-touch and the keyboard smaller. Its possible we could see a touchpad instead of actually keys. Otherwise why on earth would you make the keyboard smaller...I don't think anyone was asking for a smaller keyboard.

Which brings me to this point...would you want both a multi-touch keyboard and a multi-touch mouse? It seems redundant to me. Why not just make the "keyboard" bigger and get rid of the mouse all together. Tack on the surface area wasted by the mouses movement across the desk to the touchpad and have all that extra space for gestures and what not. You could set up the screen to touchpad ratio 1:1 like tablets (not Apple tablets, but Wacom style) and have some real fun.

Seems like new iMacs are on their way, as if we needed any more rumors.

I have scratched my head for years wondering why apple can build so many things so well except the mouse? They allways try to do something off the beaten path hence Apple mice have sucked for decades.

x2 Mice are the ONE Apple product I refuse to ever use. They're absolutely horrid. Once you use a Logitech MX Revolution, it's hard to settle for anything less.

Smaller??? That is weird. I thought you can not make it any smaller and still usable. And please please please get rid of that stupid ball in my not so mighty mouse cos cleaning it every few days drives me insane.

every few days? yeesh, wash your hands more often!

Gah! I would love a bluetooth keyboard if it had a number pad. I'm a CAD monkey and would die without a number pad. Maybe they could release a separate number pad? Ah, would probably just be too expensive.

I love the current wireless keyboard. It is nearly perfect the only things I could see them improving are:
  • Black Keys to match the iMac
  • Backlit
  • Improved range, this would be a great keyboard for a mini connected to a TV too. If the thing didn't drop the connection after 5 ft.

As far as the mouse is concerned, just get rid of the CROD (Clogging Rollerball of Death).

I'm sure a new mouse is near the top of Apple's list. I imagine TONS of people have been having their Mighty Mouses replaced by AppleCare because of the crappy ball.

Because people still need mice. Thats why you see a laptop user every now and then using one. Illustrator is almost impossible to use with out a mouse or wacom.

Yeah I hate illustrator even on my trackpad...but people using illustrator aren't the target market for these machines. Yeah I got a Wacom hooked up right now, I do just about everything on it...I just don't see the point for both a multi-touch keyboard and a multi-touch mouse...seems redundant.

But I also don't see the necessity for a minutely smaller keyboard either...its already awkwardly tiny. And do you think they would have just trimmed off that little space if they weren't doing some sort of MAJOR change?

I don't mind losing the number pad, I just hate the tiny directional keys that are crammed into the bottom right corner of the keyboard.

smaller keyboard?? whyyyyyy! Just make it backlight and ill buy it.

I'm on my BT keyboard all day and it eats batteries (one reason I got rechargeable ones). A backlight certainly isn't going to help matters any. POSSIBLY the inclusion of a light sensor would help reduce the drain, but still...

And, I want a numeric keypad!!! When my 2006 MP failed and Apple replaced it in 2008 I had to send them back my full sized BT keyboard with numeric pad and was sent the new aluminum one lacking the keyboard instead. That was the only raw part of the deal. I'm still hoping that just like on the MBPs when they went all glossy, Apple will realize the errors of it's ways and bring back the full sized BT keyboard.

Two points that I heavily agree with. Matte option would be nice...

bear with my ignorance, is there no light/pointing/tracking needed on teh bottom of the mouse?

maybe they don't need to show that, just the size and what labels are going to be on it.

Not sure how it would get smaller without sizing down the keys. It is already perfect. Make it backlit and I'm definitely buying another one (as long as it stays cordless).

I'm really excited about the mouse. Can't tell you how many times I've been using an old mac mouse and tried to use the surface as a touch input area without thinking. Make it comfortable enough and I might actually use one.
