Maybe I've overlooked something because nobody has mentioned this yet...

But where's the laser on this mouse?? Surely, those logos are not on the top of the device.

bear with my ignorance, is there no light/pointing/tracking needed on teh bottom of the mouse?

maybe they don't need to show that, just the size and what labels are going to be on it.

Good point. That could just be a piece of the mouse like the battery cover or something or maybe it doesn't need to be shown. Or maybe it just makes no sense.

Kind of a goofy shape for a mouse...but the mighty mouse has never been great.

Smaller? Because the old keyboard was so big and ungainly?

I own one. Have you ever used it? It takes at least my hand to pick up should I want to move it - it's absolutely insane. Now, if Apple gets around to making one small enough to levitate Copperfield-style, then that'll be great. However, until it's as thin as a tissue, it is simply way too bulky to be usable...

Oh boy. New keyboard, new mouse, new imac, new everything! :D

Looks like someone got the new Jay-Z single - submit that to Weird Al for a new parody. :)

bamboo fun pen and touch all the way for me now! It's fantastic! and comes in silver and while to match the keyboard! :D

I would love a mouse that has something better than the click wheel. My mighty mouse click wheel always gets stuck and never works correctly. A touch interface to slide up and down would be cool :)

Trackpad with gestures - that's all I want

The only feature that the current numeric/wired keyboard hasn't got and would be great to have is a trackpad from the MacBook Pro range. Such a keyboard would likely to be introduced simultaneously with an upgraded iMac. So I hope.

I would pay as much as £55 for it (opposed to the current wired numeric keyboard, which is £29). That is the price of a low-end graphic tablet. Personally, I am slightly skeptical, whether that would be a price range that Apple would choose. Still, hope is free. Hopefully, with the new iMacs, the new keyboards will be free.

I think it's pretty clear that an iMac refresh is coming within the next month...it's kind of like a snowball rolling down the hill with all these rumors!

Why wait?

Wacom Bamboo Touch $70

You can get the one with the pen too if you'd like. But the product you want exists.

What we really need is an external bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone!

I used to have the coolest iGo Stowaway Ultra Slim Folding Bluetooth Keyboard for my Palm Treo, and that was 5 years ago!

Thanks!

Thanks very much for the advice! I have been wanting to get a Bamboo for a while, but I haven't realised that it supported Mac gestures. I wish I did get it with the numeric/wired keyboard already.

It's lucky that I posted. :) I hope that they recognise three and four finger gestures...

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the previous post (and watched the Bamboo video). So gestures are different. I'll wait for the iMac upgrade and if Apple will not release a new keyboard with trackpad, I will get a tablet.

Why the KB is smaller

The keyboard is smaller because it must exactly fit the dimensions of the upcoming tablet.

By releasing the keyboard first, Apple will acclimatize the market to the idea that this size is a standard, full-size. Then, when the 10.7" tablet is released in February, it will already have a established accessory that just happens to be the perfect size to travel with the tablet. Some new Mac owners will already have the new BT keyboard by then, making the tablet an even more tempting purchase for them.

If it was possible to use Apple's current BT keyboard with the iPhone, I would use that combo for emailing and basic word processing when I'm at a cafe, library or hotel room, allowing me to leave my MBP at home.

Using a BT keyboard with the 10.7" tablet would be even more of a no-brainer.

Check into it and my post prior to yours...

my favorite feature of the mighty mouse is the two buttons on the side, that you press to active expose. Please don't get rid of that!

Majorly lacking in 'gesturing.' Only supports 2 fingers.

The express keys can do whatever you want which would be the same as 3 or 4 finger gestures. You'd just tap whichever with your thumb.

Yeah I don't know how well it works, but it supports something. But personally I like the whole tablet experience a lot more than a mouse. You can customize all the express keys to do the exact same thing gestures do without the gesture. But they are expensive if you aren't drawing/painting/sketching on the computer.

I just wish they'd release a Bluetooth keyboard with a full keypad. My credit card is ready and waiting for that.

About the missing laser-thingy. Would it be possible to include an accelerometer and ditch the laser? It would really be revolutionizing, though I can see the potential issue with precision...

...well, it was just a thought. *hiding under the table*

Edit: In an attempt to back up my statement I googled "apple mighty mouse accelerometer" and came up with the following:

I noticed this too.
And I think it is significant.

The way the logos are placed at the bottom would not even leave room for an optical lens anywhere! And it won't be placed offset. Apple loves to keep things centered and aligned.

So this can only mean one thing: it won't be an optical mouse!

What will it be instead?
Only one answer: gyroscopes and accelerometers!

This mouse will literally work on any surface.
And perhaps even in 3D space...

Edit:
doh! frosse beat me to it!
Brilliant minds work alike...

And I am taking bets that it will not be an optical mouse!

That may not be the whole mouse and just a piece of it. The shape makes me think that because that shape is not classy and clean like the rest of Apple products. Precision aside...how accurate is my big fat fingers on this tiny trackpad...I'm sure it could work someway.

Personally I don't see why it isn't just a trackpad...that seems like the obvious progression but hey they continue to try to make a good mouse...IMO they have failed so far.

Finally A Mouse For Slobs!!!

I love to eat fried chicken and fries which means the trackball on my mighty mouse worked for only a short time.

I even tried licking the mouses ball to get the grease off.......

I always have a hard time detecting sarcasm on message boards... but if you are being serious, you might want to try washing your hands before using your mouse.
