Finally, we inquired about the new $29 headphones that will be available for the iPod nano and iPod touch. The headphones, which let you skip/pause/play with a click just like the iPhone headphones, also let you adjust volume up or down. I asked whether they would work with the iPhone, and the Apple rep said the company doesn't claim that they're supported. "It will work with skipping, pausing, etc. but I don't think the volume will change. That's not supported on the iPhone." He pointed out that iPhone headphones will work with the iPod touch and iPod nano, however.

Hopefully this turns out to be true. I would love to use these with my iPhone even if I don't get the volume control feature.

ugh very annoying news indeed that they don't work with iphones! the new ones look sweet! they even come with a case, which i've always wanted to prevent my earphones from getting all tangled up!

Im just going on the previous pair that I paid $30 for but has the same quality as a pair of $9 sony's.

Agreed, based on past Apple headset performance, I'm not expecting much. But I was kind of optimistic and willing to wait for some real reviews to come in.

which were not dual armatures. next.

Yes, but when the single driver earbuds are compared w/ other single driver earbuds, they still suck.

So if history continues, the dual driver in-ear buds may suck compared to similarly priced dual driver in-ear buds.

I don't get Apple fragmenting their accessory line. Maybe the hardware departments didn't communicate? Hopefully will be address via a firmware up date. Wasn't the purpose of the dock connector so that all ipods could use the same accessories. And now this with a headphone jack? Strange...

The new headphones don't work with the iphone either?!?!?!

Wow ... like, did they shaft the iphone on purpose? Why wouldn't a pair of premium buds with an in-line mic and volume control work on the iPhone.

:(

LOL, you think 79 Apple-dollars will buy you something good when it comes to dual armatures?

If anything, these will only be able to just hit the "quality" of the old ones.

Dual amatures is hype and a fad. Hopefully it will be shortlived.
You never did stop and wonder why proper (as in circum and supra aural) cans don't come with several drivers?

Anyway, let's just say that the 79 dollars will buy you headphones more than double the quality of the old 30 dollar headphones, that just means that you can get something way better for around 20 dollar.

"Next"? Pfft!

Ok here's what I'm thinking.

The iphone software needs to be updated to 2.1 to allow for the new volume controls in the new earphones, which is why they are not listed as being compatible.

This is my only hope!

Cmon Apple do the right thing, there's a lot of people who own iPhones that want these headphones.

By the time these headphones ship (October) 2.1 will have been out for a number of weeks.

If they sound the same or better than Vibes AND work with iPhones then I know a lot of people that would buy these.

I'm hoping that everything will work fine and it's just the volume switching that won't work. I'm sure we'll hear more over the coming days and weeks.

Assuming it works, does anyone know if the jack will be long enough to fit in the original iPhone or if it is only for the 3G?

Fingers crossed that come Fridays 2.1 update they will change to being compatible with the iPhone.

If not it is simply crazy that they make a set of headphones with a mic and they will not work with the iPhone.

According to Apple, they don't.

I know, I am just replying to some people saying that these are worse than other in-ear headphones. If they really won't work with the iPhone then yes, I agree. If they do (and it seems silly that they wouldn't) then these would be an option for A LOT of people now buying vibes.

There are tons of crazy things already. It wouldnt be something new.
