I will never understand why people would want to use such feature in the first place.
Here you go. Not long ago, I had our kid take some snapshots (had a few just about alike) for our wedding anniversary. She doesn't tend to factor in background content that can throw off a photo, so I ended up...wearing a ceiling fan beanie.

I pulled up Photos on my M4Pro Mac Mini (not iPhone), and in short order had this:

Particularly with 'amateur' shots (which is all we take), it's common to find things in the background that detract from the image, and discover this later. A tuft of hair out of place, an inconvenient stranger wearing loudly colored clothing in the background in a public place, etc...

What happened to your heads/faces? This is genuine curiosity, but are you 100% sure these are the exact same photos which would mean the AI changed your head tilts/eyes/smiles?

This is a perfect example of the sort of stuff it's good for, and that's exactly how I use it.

What most people fail to realize is that Clean Up and whatever Samsung and Google call their equivalents have different goals.
On an interview with WSJ I believe, Craig said the idea of an object erasing tool was internally polarizing at Apple because it sparked debates about whether they should provide a tool that can create disingenuous results. Some argued even the idea of removing a water bottle that was barely in-frame was too disingenuous and was not authentic to what actually happened. Apple values authenticity with Clean Up, which is why it is only intended to be used with background objects.
If you try to use it in a way it was not built for (like removing a hand in front of a face - when will that ever be useful in a real scenario anyway), you will get obvious AI smearing. It works great for its intended purpose - removing small objects in the background that spoil a view.

Very useful. "Please, clean up my ex from all photos in the album."

This feature has also found a lot of use in political history, as well. ("Foreseeing the future is easy, as it is in the five-year plan. Past is much more difficult, as it changes so fast." — Unknown Soviet thinker)

I had the S24 for a bit when it came out and the equivalent feature was miles head of Apple’s current cleanup feature. Even trying to remove something small without a detailed background behind it seems to be very difficult for Apple Intelligence, it’s very bad.
What you say might be true (I've used clean up many times and it always worked fine for me) but I think most Apple users are expecting a simple clean up of photos and not something very comprehensive. Most Apple users are not comparing to other offerings so they do not care about best in class for a minor feature. The same can be said of Siri itself. Anyone using voice assistants for more than setting timers and playing music is not the demographic Apple is aiming at, especially in an ad like this.

Just to try it out, I used (Apple owned) Photomator on my 13 mini on Airplane mode and removed the woman from the image just fine. A little bit more refinement could have made it look better. iOS could already select a subject out of an image without an Apple Intellegence device, and I could remove things from photos. So why is this an AI-exclusive feature?

Edit: For comparison, here’s the same edit with Apple Intelligence Clean up on my M4 iPad Pro -

Gees their ads are getting worse. First the Pedro Pascal AirPods 4 one with the annoying music & irritating/cliché poses, & now this.

Also, is it Apple’s mission to use people who don’t definitely look like a guy nor girl in their ads? What are they pushing here? (Legit question)…

This is probably the ideal situation with clean separation and clean background. You can try removing your wife from the photo.

Why does it bother your gender conforming brain so much or is this just your prejudice in the guise of question (Legit question)

Our kiddo took a few photos; the one with the fan probably isn't the exact one; I didn't scrutinize real closely. All I had it edit out was the fan. Now if it were my wife doing the editing, she'd have tried to edit out clutter so you couldn't see what our house looks like most of the time... 😁
