To the folks who liked the Vines song: don't bother buying "Ride" from iTMS, get the album "Winning Days" instead. 11 great tracks, you won't be disappointed. And while you're at it, get their debut album "Highly Evolved" as well, it's just as good.

seems pretty pointless to me

haven't they done enough of these 'mood' ads...

or is that all they're selling, the cool factor?

Ah, questioning that leads me to ask you, 'how long have you used macs?'

amen...the msn and most commercials have no creativity...take sprint PCS they have had the same commercials for like 3 years it seems....whats that a pig not a dig

I would like apple to stick with this. Sometimes a particular frame can be limiting, but sometimes it just makes you think harder, and come up with something really creative.
I'll take a shot at it. What about something like:

A professor sitting at his desk. Morphs into a silhouette of himself at the desk with an iPod, playing a classical piece.

A trucker driving on an interstate. Morphs into a silhouette of himself behind the wheel with an ipod (wires going into the dashboard) playing a country/western song.

A Jamaican walking down the street. Morphs into a silhouette of himself walking with an iPod playing a Reggae tune.

A teenage girl web-surfing (maybe visiting ITMS). Morphs into a silhouette of herself listening to an iPod, playing a pop song.

Finally, a subway full of people. Morphs into a crowd of silhouettes, each with iPods, with songs of all four genres playing at once. (Try to pick ones where the result won't be total cacophany.)

Fade to black. Image of a row of iPods (five minis in the five colors, with a white one on either end of the row). Caption: "iPod + iTunes: music for the masses."

shamino, your examples are good. Here's a variation on the idea: the people could keep doing their activities but as soon as they start their iPod, their shadows behind them start dancing.

maybe i'm dumb when it comes to advertising, but apple should do this idea you two have put together. would be pretty cool and a little more broad reaching. which couldn't hurt at this point

4G? Are you serious?

What is all this whining about the lack of a 4G iPod. Have you looked at the sales numbers? If you're selling almost a million units at at least $299 (that's not even counting the fact your basic iPod sells for like $400+ in the UK) in the last QUARTER there's absolutely no reason for a product refresh. Maybe when sales begin to drop off, but with the Mini Apple solved that problem because people who don't want to spend $299 might want to spend $250 instead, and they've given themselves room to lower the price by $30-50 on both units.

So it would seem a need for a 4G iPod is for the kind of people who want to play Zelda during Algebra 2--get a Gameboy dude.

I wouldn't mind color, but I don't need it and I certainly don't really need to look at my latest pictures on my Mp3 player--I like to keep that thing in my pocket in case I get jumped.

The ad was good, but I agree with other posts that Apple might want to target people who don't look like they own a $900 jacket. Yah.

Whatever it is, it's working. Of course, having a product designed for the consumer doesn't hurt either. Above all else Steve has brought aesthetic back to Apple.

NBC aired the ad

I saw the iPod ad on NBC dateline tonight. It was on during the Friends special with Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. I guess we'll definately be seeing the ad during the Friends final episode tonight. Good for apple, it may be one of the highest rated shows ever tonight.

I saw the new iPod ad aired twice during "ER: Midnight" 10pm - 11pm. Thought that it was a great commercial. Some of the billboards on a fence started dancing while a young man was listening o his iPod.

the song is "Ride" from The Vines
I know this is an old thread, but there's something new to report. Nissan is using the same song, [playlistId=14813322&selectedItemId=14813270]Ride by The Vines[/playlistId], on their latest TV commercials. Whenever I hear it, it gives me the urge to buy a new... iPod!
