Same for ME..

i got mine on august 12 and it wont work. if i put a diff date it says it can't find the serial number.

Same for me... got mine Aug. 7th so I expected that... Best that I can achieve is it telling me that "It cannot find my s/n" and prompts me to Download the .pdf File... I guess I'll have to pay the Big Bucks!!

I had tremendous problems with my MBP that I ordered back in June and I finally got a replacement shipped from Apple on September 29th. I know without a doubt that if I asked my Apple Customer Care Exec for it, he would comp me Leopard. I'm not going to ask because I don't deserve it. Apple was already amazingly good to me by just offering me a complete swap. Why should I be entitled to receive their new operating system without paying?
...

You don't "deserve'' it? That's a really weird way to put it...

yeah, i dont think you can lie, because i tried, i thought it worked at first, but a couple days later, it said, "Cancelled - Replaced with new product; MAC OS X 10.5 UTD FULFILLMENT-INT" --> even though it said its just being replaced, the shipping date that's at the bottom was taken off...so it probably means their not shipping it to me any more right?

It won't work. They will verify the serial number before it ships. People tried this with iLife '08 and it looked like it processed, but did not ship.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I think you're saying they already charged for the Leopard up-to-date you claimed for the machine you bought in August.

Just reporting what I've been told has happened in the past, and what will most likely happen this go-around.

People - if you're gonna lie/cheat/steal, just do it - don't announce it in a public forum. It's inappropriate. (And, last time I checked, against MR rules.)

Yep, they're charging the credit cards straight away when you order.

I don't know about anywhere else, but under Australian law, once they've charged your card then they have to sell it to you at that price. Charging your credit card is acceptance of the contract between you and the company. There was actually a case a couple of years ago where Dell accidentally advertised hard drives for $8 or something, and because they automatically charged peoples' credit cards, they ended up having to ship the drives out.

The point of this thread is to say that I tried it and it might work for you too (You made it seem as if it DIDN'T work for me.)
And being that every Mac ships with OS X. There is just 3 different disks: Single User, Family Pack, and OS X Server. So technically every OSX disc is an "upgrade." I expect full retail packaging.

I'm not. When I got my first iMac, the Jaguar up-to-date discs were in the box and it was just 2 CDs marked "Upgrade". And from memory, you couldn't re-install it from those discs alone. You had to install 10.1 then use the upgrade discs. I expect a DVD with minimal documentation. And for AU$13, I wouldn't expect anymore.

I tried my MBP that I bought on the 1st of september and it was approved with an october date, although I didn't buy. I also tried my Mac Pro I bought in April, although it said the serial could not be found, so interesting.

I am not sure that I will qualify.

I ordered my iMac on the 15th Sept and it shipped on the 29th Sept and was delivered on the 4th Oct.

Even though it shipped a couple of days before the 1st Oct, will I still be eligable.

Shall I just try it and see??

I ordered my iMac on the 26th August and this seems to have worked for me. I went to the site, put in my serial number and put 1st Oct as the purchase date and it accepted it. Cool.
