these tiers don’t really make sense. There’s no particular reason to believe, for example, that a single user wouldn’t want fitness+ or news+. There’s no particular reason to assume a user would need all four of the base services rather than 2 or 3.

They need to allow customization of the bundle for this to appeal more broadly. Like, why can’t I bundle 2Tb iCloud with Apple Music and fitness+? Or just news+ and arcade? Or everything except Apple Music?

Agreed. They almost need to have a list of services to choose from, and maybe tiers for the values of those services:

$10 options (Music, 2TB, news, fitness)
$5 options (TV, arcade)

The more you pick to bundle the larger the discount.

Family tier fits my needs very well. My only issue is iCloud Storage, I need more than 200GB. The FAQ states that I can pay for more, but... do I have to pay full price to upgrade from 200GB to 2TB? That seems a dealbreaker for me, especially since Premier is not available in my region.

Its been noted that you'll be able to customize / upgrade the storage within each of these plans.

Premier is tempting especially since you can share. My Apple Music subscription is paid through the end of 2023. I'm assuming they would pro-rate that somehow if I got Premier.

FYI, you can already share the individual services (and app and media purchases) via Family Sharing, so you don't have to buy into a bundle unless to share unless it makes sense to do so.

Does Apple Music generate playlists yet like Spotify does or is it still pretty much you have to know exactly what you want to listen to still?

The Family plan would be a savings for me, if I could convince the wife to drop Spotify. I don’t see that happening. I’m not knocking choice by any means, but eventually we either run out of time to evaluate each one, or simply don’t want to mess with it for a small savings. Hopefully Spotify will just counter with a better family plan somehow.

It seems like they primarily base these bundles on Music ($10 for the individual, and then $15 for family or premier).

And then if you're a user of Music and Storage, they start to make sense. I imagine music and storage are their most common services.

I know myself I currently pay 30 (15 for music, 10 for storage, 5 for arcade). Right off the bat it'll essentially give me TV, News, Fitness for free.
Exactly. There are a lot of users in your same boat who will say “eh, why not sign up, then?” — it further deepens your investment in Apple, increases your switching costs, and gives you a few more excuses to buy even more Apple products for the rest of the family, to take full advantage of all these new “free” services you’re now getting.

That is indeed a key question. If one has to pay full price (instead of the delta between the 200 GB and 2 TB plan), the bundle loses de facto its iCloud component.

I'd much prefer the "more you add, more you save" methodology of customization. I'm betting that Arcade and News need more critical mass to be profitable (apple losing money based on the cost of doing business with publishers of written works and games) and so those are coming along for the ride in the higher tier even if all you need is more iCloud storage. a jump from 200GB to 2 terabytes is not necessary for most people.

Well, 190gb of my 200gb is filled right now and im flying solo.. how is my wife going to fit all her stuff in 10gb lol.

We need more storage in the basic family bundle - plus I dont care about your stupid games can you swap out the arcade.. 😅
the storage tiers are so stupid and greedy.

Well I guess this is all 'your mileage may vary' based on your personal usage and preferences. Tough to capture everyone in 3 tiers. For me, I am already paying $25/mo for Apple Music for family, and 2tb of storage for family. For an extra $5 I get Apple Arcade, Apple TV+, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+.

Given what I'm currently paying, it's a no brainer for me.
