Still holding out for Eastern Shore Centre

Eastern Shore Centre currently has only a little more than 40 committed retailers. When it opens in mid-October, it feature 70 tenants. One thing I notice about ESC is that outside of Pottery Barn, William Sonoma and purportedly Apple, there are no really upscale, unique retailers listed as tenants. I'm assuming we'll see the usuals such as Banana Republic, Abercrombie & Fitch and, hopefully, Apple announced sometime in September or early October. According to the spokeswoman for the development, Connie Bryars, the web site for Eastern Shore Centre will be overhauled and re-launched in mid-August and will feature the updated tenant line up.

Not one to risk being possibly arrested by Spanish Fort police, I'll stay off the ESC construction site a little while longer. Besides, the entrance near Dillards is still a dirt trail.

I think you can scratch an October opening for Apple in Spanish Fort. It takes up to six months to train and staff a store and there are no openings for a Spanish Fort store as of yet. Don't give up hope though, because this wouldn't be the first that Apple didn't make the grand opening date in a new mall. It looks a lot like 2005 - if it is going to happen at all.

Okay

Now, if there's isn't going to be an Apple Store location at Eastern Shore Centre in 2004, will Apple still have a total of 100 stores opened by the end of the year? If so, then Eastern Shore Centre was never going to be a location for a future Apple Store.

The answer to the first question is yes, there will be 100 stores open by years end without Eastern Shore Centre. Assuming there are no construction delays like last year's Aventura debacle, and Apple can keep to its schedule, there are 19 stores now posted on Apple's web site looking for employees this Fall and Winter. With the present 80 stores that leaves only one store not accounted for in the job listings. That store is likely the Braintree store that recently appeared on Apple's "drop down" menu. So, you can see, it is likely that if Eastern Shore happens it will happen after the 1st of the year.

I wouldn't make the jump to say that because it hasn't happened yet, or will not happen this fall, that means a Spanish Fort store won't happen at all. This store was first rumored over a year ago on Think Secret's website and verified by newspaper reports in Mobile. It wouldn't be the first store that the rumor got the date wrong, but the place right. The Charlotte store is an example of that. If it is in the works for early 2005 then we should see a listing in the next three months or so. Cross your fingers.

By the way, there is a listing now of an official date for the Rosedale Center, Minnesota store for July 24th. This is only three months from posting to opening - the fastest I can recall.

Although

I don't recall reading in the Real Estate section of the paper at any time that Apple was going to be a tenant for Eastern Shore Centre. If so, Apple would appear on the tenant roster. For instance, a couple months back it was announced in the Real Estate column that Belk, a regional department store chain, would serve as an anchor for ESC. Ever since then, Belk has been displayed on ESC's tenant roster. From October until February 2005, ESC will be a very interesting venue.

If your go back and read posts 53 and 54 in this thread, you will find ITR 81 and I had this conversation some months ago. I haven't yet seen the article in question, but both ITR and Think Secret vouch for it. Doesn't mean the Register got its facts straight, but I'm persuaded that it's still a possibility. I'll keep watching for any sign and post anything I can find and you do the same -- ok? I hope it is true, because Alabama needs a store.

Apple has begun listing jobs for the Braintree, Mass. store. This means it will indeed be the last of the 100 stores Apple has announced it will open by year's end.

bringing back a dying thread here but does anyone have any idea what the stores usually pay part time mac specialists (sales). not to make some of you jealous or just pissed off but i'll be within 5 minutes of the rockaway store and within 40 minutes of 2 other stores (bridgewater and short hills) and am looking to get a job at one of the 3.

Sorry, I can't answer your particular question, but a quick look at the Apple job listings will tell you if a specific store is hiring part time mac specialists. If you don't already know where to check, go to Apple Retail and "click" on the link at the bottom right of the page, which is entitled "Apple Store Job Opportunities."

If you are looking for advice on how to best apply for the jobs, check out the page over at ifoAppleStore called "Retail Store Hiring." Hope this is helpful.

Philly flagship store?

There is a very, very interesting rumor over at ifoAppleStore.

Surfing the Internet with my Powerbook via the Cafe Olé's free Wi-Fi access point in Philadelphia , I pondered the inscription on the Liberty Bell nearby. "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof," the inscription reads, perhaps referring to independence from England back in the colonial days. Or perhaps it referred to another type of independence-- freedom from any Apple resellers in downtown Philadelphia. Just then, someone dressed as Benjamin Franklin approached and said, "If you would persuade, you must appeal to interest rather than intellect." Uh... I'm not gettin' it, Ben. "Aww, get thee up to 1727 Walnut St.," he barked, claiming that the two-story, 22,000 square-foot, former Borders Books store located there looks like the perfect spot for a future Apple retail store. Ben then walked off and muttered, "Think different." Am I to doubt Ben Franklin?

If Gary's (ifoAppleStore's head honcho) sources are true this could be a new flagship store for Philly! Sounds great to me!

Two new store locations

Apple's jobs website has two new store locations revealed on its "drop down" menu. Miami Beach and St. Louis have stores that have yet to list actual job positions or an opening date. It is likely, given the time frame of the new locations that sometime early next year there will be new stores in the St. Louis Galleria and the Lincoln Road area of Miami Beach. Will the Miami Beach store be of the Flagship variety? Here's hoping!

That will make for full coverage of Eastern Massachusetts. We have one on the North Shore, Peabody. Two in Boston, CambridgeSide Galleria and Chestnut Hill. This new one in Braintree would be a South Shore location.

IMHO, what Apple needs to do for such a large metropolitan area is to have a Flag Ship Store. The Chestnut Hill Store is small doesn't even have a theater. Come on Apple we deserve a nice large theater quality theater.

We need more Apple Stores in the Pacific Northwest. The only stores are in Seattle and Portland. How bout putting one in Salt Lake?

Of course one in my hometown of Boise would be wonderful, the city has been on the job listing drop-down menu for months now.

Does anyone know what that really means, having a name on the drop-down list? Does it mean Apple is seriously thinking about it/persuing it?

Here's to hopin'.

As much as I wanted to believe the rumors about the Eastern Shore location, it's pretty obviously not going to happen, or at least not anytime soon. After getting over to the Summit in Birmingham a few weeks ago for the first time, it seems a lot more Apple's speed. More of its usual neighbors and such. I know Birmingham was one of the original advertised job locations, so I wonder why they changed their minds.

Not Over Yet

I'm going to accept the reality that Eastern Shore Centre will not have an Apple store as a tenant by its October opening. However, I still remain hopeful that Apple will be a tenant sometime by Spring of 2005. Also, what we need to remember about ESC is that it is only about 57% leased currently.

we need an additional store in new york city. the one in SoHo is always packed. I think it would be a great addition to the Time Warner Center or 5th Ave or Herald Square.

There is a new store scheduled for this fall to open in Lynnwood, Washington. No word yet on an opening date, but it has job listings so it is very likely to be part of the 19 stores to be opened by year's end.

The "drop down" menu is Apple's "early warning" of new locations. Looking at the menu will tell you if there are any Apple jobs in a given city. When looking for new store locations check the menu for any listing with a city name followed by a hyphen then a location within a city (usually a mall name.) An example would be the upcoming store in San Francisco which is listed as "San Francisco - Stonestown" - a shopping mall on the western edge of the city. In Boise's case the listing is for Apple jobs, but not an upcoming store. One caveat to remember is that locations have appeared on the "drop down" menu and disappeared later (twice that I can remember - Syracuse came back after disappearing.) Most of the time it is followed shortly by listings on Apple's Retail job listing site. A listing here gives a likely time frame of 3 to 6 months from the date of the original listing.

I've been watching for it, wdlove. No sign yet, but there have been rumors of a Philly flagship store and the new Miami Beach location seems ideal for a flagship operation. I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see anything.

Totally unhelpful to you, wdlove, but ifoAppleStore is reporting a new flagship location in Nagoya, Japan. This would be the third store in Japan.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to work on its Japan retail chain, with the construction of a third store, this time in Nagoya, about half-way between the Ginza and Shinsaibashi retail stores. The future store is near the 13-story Takashimaya Department Store, near the JR train station. Tipsters believe it will open sometime in the first half of 2005.

Jacksonville store

Apple's "drop down" menu now has a listing for the already rumored Jacksonville store in St. John's Centre mall. This had been reported earlier in the Jacksonville Business Journal with a March 2005 opening date.

Thank you for your concern Sayhey. It's nice to know that I have an alley in my pursuit of a Flag Ship Store here.

Thanks for the info, Sayhey! :)

After digging around at ifoAppleStore I did find a bit of promising news. One of Apple's usual lessors, General Growth, Inc., owns the Boise Towne Square Mall, Idaho's largest shopping center.

Here's another question Sayhey, since you were so kind to answer my last one. :) What about authorized Apple resellers, do they make an impact on where a store may or may not be placed?

Boise has one Apple only reseller (that I know of) and it's horrible! They've apparently just secured a new location, which might help the atmosphere, but the salespeople are not very helpful. I felt like I was on a used car lot when I went in there. *shudder* If this place were halfway decent I wouldn't mind not having an Apple Store as much.

:(

All these new Apple stores popping up all in groups and everywhere else in the country. Yet, Apple has yet to open a store remotely close to the New Orleans area, one of the largest cities in America. There are a ton of mac users here and we all have to flock to the local CompUSA, that should i say is less than comparitive to an Apple store. I am very displeased that New Orleans isnt even on the map for a store yet!
