australia? ever?

we are so under served by crappy applecentres. some of them look okay but hardly any have stock of anything apple. it's almost pointless to go to one to say, look at the new displays, at the new pmacs, at the new 4G ipods or anything really - even if they have stock (not that likely) then they probably will not have display stock. though we are a small nation (20 million) we take up tech well (high computer, mobile etc penetration, bar broadband, but thats another topic)... and sydney with 5 million people, and melbourne with nearly four could do with at least one applestore each...

sigh

CompUSA / Apple Store within a Store?

We're getting a new CompUSA here in Fort Myers, FL and I was wondering if they all have an Apple "store within a store". I'm hoping it's true :D

Others here probably have a better understanding of this than me, so if I'm wrong someone please correct me!

Anyway... The "Store within a Store" isn't as good as it sounds. The CompUSA in my town has a section of Apple products in the far corner of the store, but very rarely do I find someone there with an actual working knowledge of Apple. Sadly there are a lot of sales reps that find you in the Apple section and end up trying to woo you over to the PC's because that's what they know and can "wow" you with their technical mumbo-jumbo.

On the other hand, I find my CompUSA to be a great place to drool over products that I will never be able to afford (ie. displays/powermacs/ipod...oh..wait..i got an ipod! w00t!)

Anyway...if I were you I wouldn't get overly-excited, but again, I might be wrong, and it's still a great place to drool as long as you can shake off the leeches that they call "Sales Associates". ;)

Oh, well. It will be better than nothing :p My sons and I visited our first Apple store in Costa Mesa, CA while on vacation this summer. Just a mall store, but very cool none the less. At least now I should have a place to go pick up games for the kids or get a first hand look at the new monitors, iMac's etc :D

We are getting a store in Kansas City in the very near future! There were job postings a while back and now the Plaza website is confirming an Apple store coming soon to the Plaza! Check it out: http://www.countryclubplaza.com/. Go to the "what's new" button.

I don't know about all the stores. Our local CompUSA has an exclusive Apple area. There is always at least one salesman in the area.

ifoAppleStore is reporting these new international stores.

Nagoya - Japan - The third Japan retail store is underway now near the Takeshimaya Department Store, near the the JR train station. It will be a two-story store, although not a designated "flagship" store. Job recruiting page appeared on Apple Japan Web site Aug. 20, 2004....

Manchester (England) - Word began circulating on Aug. 30, 2004 that Apple is looking for retail space in this working-class city of 2.8 million residents, about 200 miles northwest of London. Once an industrial center, the city's abandoned factories and warehouses are now being converted to more modern uses, and the economy and tourism look brighter.

Kyoto (Japan) - Tipster revealed store on Aug. 30, 2004. The city is about 30 miles northeast of Osaka, and about half-way to Nagoya in the mid-part of Honshu island. It would be Apple's fourth retail store in the country. It has population of 1.3 million, but 2.5 million in metro area. Was the country's capitol for 1,000 years and is rich in historic sites.

Umeda - Osaka (Japan) - Tipster revealed second Osaka store on Aug. 30, 2004. It would be the fifth store in Japan, and provide coverage to the northern portion of downtown Osaka (Shinsaibashi covers the mid-south portion).

Apple's job website is now listing job openings for the St. Louis Galleria and the Miami Beach - Lincoln Road stores. This means it is likely that both stores will open in the Jan.- Feb. 2005 timeframe. No listings yet for the Jacksonville, Florida store, but the Jacksonville Business Journal has already reported a March 2005 opening in the St. John's Center.
St Louis Galleria? That's about 10 miles away from the other st louis one that doesnt get a whole lot of business.

but the galleria is in like the richest part of St. Louis so maybe they're expecting some business

Poor you -- I'm within 30 minutes of at least 6 different Apple stores. God bless California.

Santa Rosa "mini" store

Anyone from the north bay area (Sonoma County) seen any progress on the Santa Rosa Plaza mini-store? I grew up in that part of the world and it's hard for me to believe that Apple would put a store into that mall...I guess it must be nicer than it was 10 years ago.

Anyway, ifoapplestore.com doesn't have much in terms of recent updates on that spot.

California should share some of its stores with the Midwest. Having that many close together doesn't make sense. I do realize that California is a large state, they should spread them out.

Chances are she will be at the Apple Store right along with her husband. It makes for enjoyment of a mutual love of Apple.

LOL. I must admit the Dual 1.8 G5 in the house is hers.....uses it for Logic Pro and a bunch of other crap I have no clue about.

My local CompUSA has an Apple representative the Apple section and its in the middle of the store and well stocked.

Speaking of being well stocked... My CompUSA has just recently received a huge amount of new Apple products, w00t!

A bunch of new iPod accessories as well as actual in-stock iPod minis! But, most importantly for me they finally got a big supply of Airport Express's! Will be picking up one of those puppies in about a week. :D

Pleasanton California

Apple Store in Stoneridge Mall in Pleasanton California... :)

Yeah!!!!!!!

Had to tell my wife it was a Kiosk little thing so she would not be all stressed out...

Totally unhelpful to you, wdlove, but ifoAppleStore is reporting a new flagship location in Nagoya, Japan. This would be the third store in Japan.

Yes, there is one coming here, January 2005 I believe. The location in the city that they predict however, is incorrect. It's not going to be in the Takashimaya dept. store building.

Pleasanton, CA... Really???

Hadn't heard about this... Maybe I did, but didn't really think about it at the time.

Well, it's a really good move by Apple! I do Mac consulting and get plenty of business in the Oakland area and almost NO work in the eastern suburbia lands. When I do get a Mac using client, they literally think they are the last of the Mac users. Generally speaking, the people in this area need to know that they DON'T HAVE TO BUY A PC! :(

Apple has now posted a job opening for a Store Manager at the new Bethesda Row location. This usually means an opening within 3-6 months. It will be the fifth store within the Washington DC/Baltimore metro area. Still no indication of plans for a flagship store in the area.

We need another one in Georgia... we're a large state, both population- and land-wise. That one in Lenox does nothing for those of us in the southeast pocket... and there's not a good one in Florida close by. The mall in Albany could use one... there's alot of empty spaces.

Sayhey, do you happen to know if any of the above stores are stand alone like some in California and New York? Are they larger than the ones we have in New England? Our two theaters are small. :( The third doesn't even have a theater. My hope is that it will eventually lead us to a flagship.

wdlove,

I got this information from ifoAppleStore.

McLean, VA - Tysons Corner - (May 19) - indoor mall, 8,000 square-feet, opened May 19th.

Arlington, VA - Clarendon - (Dec. 1) - open-air strip mall

Towson, MD - Towson Town Center - (Oct. 5) - indoor mall

Montgomery Mall - (Bethesda (Md.) - (May 8) - Located inside the enclosed Shoppingtown Montgomery Mall

Bethesda Row - not open - exact location unknown

So in answer to your question, all of the existing stores in the DC area are part of a mall complex, not stand alone stores. The Tyson's Corner store is one of the first opened by Apple and like most of those from that time it is larger than ones Apple is opening now. I don’t have the square footage of each store, but my guess is the others in the area have similar acreage to your Boston area stores. Hope this is helpful.

I’m betting that Boston and DC both get stand alone flagship stores within the next two years. There are already rumors of a new store of this type in Philadelphia and the Lincoln Road store in Miami Beach may also be of this variety. Of course, this is just speculation, but it would make a lot of sense given the pattern of openings we have seen.

sockeatingdryer, how about the upcoming Jacksonville, Florida store due to open next March? Is that about the same distance as Atlanta to you?
