New Apple Studio Displays Double Internal Storage to 128GB

100%. I have the both the 5K and 6K monitors from ASUS which are like half the price so I’m the market for this. I don’t see the value proposition. Sure they look nicer, but would even lower cost studio display tempt me? Not at all.

I have the Studio Display here connected to my M1 Pro, I am thinking the possibility to push all these functions at this 5K resolutions all thanks to the A processor. Without it, I think the M1 Pro would strain a lot more; I'm thinking this works like an eGPU-ish way.

If we're talking about doubling internal storage from 64gb to 128GB, I hope they do this with apple watch 12. and I hope on a related note that Spotify doubles the apple watch offline playlist capacity from 100 songs to 200 songs. I would say more like 500 songs even, but I can maybe understand that on such a tiny device with a relatively lackluster processor, why capping offline playlists to some degree might help with system stability maybe? or maybe 500 song playlists would be fine. either way, they should at*least* double the playlist capacity to 200, but i'd be happy with 300, 400, or 500, if Spotify/apple things that apple watch processors can handle hundreds of 500 song playlists. but if not, then 200 is fine for now, until a few years down they line they can double it to 400 songs per playlist. but the main thing is the 128gb storage. and apps that need to run *watchOS first*. I am sick of the "please open the iphone app" thing that pops up on many apple watch apps. apple needs to tell developers to stop with this nonsense. apple watch is a full fledged computer with a 64-bit processor, and all applications should run by themselves, on the watch itself.
A monitor with Thunderbolt 5 input and output ports needs some sort of a processor to decode the digital video signal and drive the pixels, as well as the 2304 dimming zones. If an A chip can handle that work and isn’t very costly, why not use it and avoid any need to develop some dedicated non-A chip?

Absolutely unnecessarily over engineered.
Sadly, just like iPad, software gimps the hardware capability.
And, more sadly, comes only in 27 inch, which so so yesteryear, now we need atleast 36-38 inch.

The people: The downside of an iMac is that the PC eventually becomes obsolete while the display should remain usable.
Apple: lets make an iMac but don’t add a user interface so people need to buy a separate Mac.

Good to know about this. 128GB is far too much for a monitor. Don’t know why Apple is having 128GB on a monitor, especially at a time when RAM/SSD prices are skyrocketing. Also don’t see any reason for not having a bigger iMac. The new displays are basically iMacs. Wish Apple will release a bigger iMac some time in the near future.
I wonder if Apple will use the iPhone SoC to offer a new lower tier iMac (or iMac Neo).
They already have monitors with the same (or higher) compute specs as the MacBook Neo, the only reason I can see not to is the risk of cannibalising sales of the existing base iMac.
But you could have a colourful iMac Neo (same compute specs as the MacBook Neo, and with a dimmer 60Hz display) and a silver iMac Studio with a better and brighter display and options of M5, M5 Pro and M5 Max, taking the place of the former iMac Pro.

Imagine plugging your Neo into a monitor that has a newer CPU than it does... And a better display... ?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread from 1985-1987 Apple sold the original LaserWriter with a faster CPU than any of the macs it was used with. Not just faster than one model, faster than the entire lineup of macs. In 1987 the Macintosh II came out with a faster CPU, but for for 2 *years* the fastest computing device Apple sold based on raw horsepower was their top of the line printer 🙂
(Which tells you how much grunt print processing took comparative to CPU power back in the 80s, we take fast easy cheap laser printers for granted today, wasnt like that 40 years ago)

The lab I was in had one. Beautiful output. I wrote my first code for the LaserWriter's Postscript interpreter back then. So, the LaserWriter had a full programming language inside. But look at the price!
