Really hoping the new remote includes Find My and longer range as I often find myself just out of range of the Apple TV with swipes and button presses not registering

Kind of surprised by this as well. You can never have too much CPU/GPU for gaming so releasing something based on the A12 seems kind of odd. Cost must be a big factor in this decision.
I think A13 would have been nic right in the middel

Hopefully it gets audio passthru for true Dolby Atmos in Plex, and I can retire my shield tv

Nope, I just look at the Apple site end it says:

HE-AAC (V1), AAC (up to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, FLAC, AIFF, and WAV; AC-3 (Dolby Digital 5.1), E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound), and Dolby Atmos

Any hint if the new AppleTV supports spatial audio on the AirPods Max?

I have a pretty light use of my AppleTV 4, just watching occasional TV channels or movies and shows. I don't have a 4K TV yet but maybe I'll get one in the future. So... I'm kinda divided if it's worth it to buy one or just keep my old AppleTV 4 and just buy the new remote...

Any thoughts ?
My question precisely. I already have two Apple TV 4Ks and without support for spatial audio on my AirPods Max, I'm not seeing any reason to upgrade.

what ever happens this will be a nic upgrade over the 5 gen apple TV that I can now retire at last

with apple TV having wifi 6 its well worth it too me too upgrade then I can have matching products with wifi 6

with phone 12 pro max iPad Air 4 MacBook pro M1 Mac mini M 1 wish all have wifi 6

but be for I can get my apple TV 6th gen I need too get my iPad 11" pro M1

I wish that was A14X or M1 on A12 is not much of a upgrade over the A10X I think A12X would have been better
Apple likely picked the A12 because it’s cheap and because it’s used in other products - namely the base iPad and Mini. The A13 will likely stop production when the iPhone 12S/13 is released in the fall and the regular 12 is relegated to to the lower cost option, thus discontinuing the 11. And the A14 is bleeding edge technology that is likely too expensive to manufacture for a $170-200 consumer electronic item. (I still wish they’d gone with the A14 though).

I'm a bit confused. Is an HDMI 2.1 port needed on the TV itself to take advantage of the HFR at 60 fps that's supported on the Apple TV? My TV has 120 Hz refresh rate but just HDMI 2.0.

Comparing iPhones on Geekbench, it looks like the A12 have better single core, roughly equal multi core, but worse metal performance than the A10x. Is this AppleTV going to be worse for gaming?

Okay so this might be worth the asking price.

802.11ax, 10-bit RGB and Thread (a.k.a. feasible HomeKit) seems like good incremental improvements.

The remote, the most losable thing, and not having U1 is somewhat of a disappointment. Would be the ideal use case.

Glad they didn’t force ATV into a soundbar or home speaker.

Once it goes on sale I’ll drop.

Meh. Very underwhelming update.

Biggest thing is the new remote.

Thank god the old Siri remote is going away. The new remote looks great - keeps Siri and touch controls, but makes the touch not required for basic input. The iPod-like scroll wheel for track jogging looks like an amazing upgrade.

Will be buying a new remote for my current-gen 4K as soon as they're available.
The ONLY thing I find to be a meaningful upgrade is the remote, but you can get that separately.

Well, if they restrict the calibration mode to this new model then I guess that would be a benefit too of upgrading.

EDIT:

Nope. The calibration feature is also supported on previous models.

I'm interested in the new ATV. I don't have a 4k set but the new remote working in conjunction with my home theater sound like a good option. Plus the Dolby features .
I see what you did there! hahaha SOUNDS good ;-)

I have been waiting to upgrade my Gen3 AppleTVs. Even YouTube doesn't support them anymore, so I need to upgrade. So as soon as ordering is possible, I'm picking up at least two of these.

Agree with underwhelming update. M1 would've made sense. This brings almost nothing to a person with the A10X Apple TV. There's almost no HFR HDR content and the processors are about equal in regards to graphics performance.

Is there any advantage to this new Apple TV over an Xbox series X or PS5 with apple tv app installed?
Well, Apple TV box aggregates all the apps together in a way for suggestions and what not, and you can run third party apps like Infuse. Plus, the interface is really slick.

However, for me, while I have an Apple TV 4K for my main system (65" LG C8 4K OLED with Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 setup), I'm not going to upgrade. I'm also not going to bother getting an Apple TV for my secondary system (55" Sony X900H 4K VA LCD with Dolby 2.1 setup). I find using the built in apps good enough, and in place of Infuse I use vlc. Not quite as slick, but it works well.

I'm not going to bother upgrading my third system either (43" Sony X800E 4K IPS LCD with Dolby 3.0 setup). I have an Apple TV HD there and given the small size of the TV and the Sony doesn't do true HDR, going to a 4K model won't really help much.

That iPod scroll wheel feature is awesome. The demo specifically mentioned that it can be used to quickly find a scene your looking for. Everytime I mention to someone why I prefer a certain devices over another because of something like this (Nvidia Shield with Plex is pretty fast with scanning through video timelines) everyone always looks at me like I've got three heads and then ask 'Why do you need to scan through movies so much?'. Jesus christ, the level of ignorance. Watch these same idiots now start celebrating this new feature.

Recently got a newer Samsung TV and it has AppleTV baked in, not really sure what the benefit is as newer TVs that support 4K HDR, HDMI 2.1 already have Netlifx, Amazon etc. built in. For older non-smart TVs I can see the appeal of an Apple TV but a FireStick Lite is $20.
The benefit is Apps. With the TV, you're stuck with what it ships with (most likely). With streaming, you never know what the next hot app might be that you can install to get that one special channel or game...

But can you connect more than 2 bluetooth devices? Cant find it listed anywhere and all prior apple TV devices were software-limited to 2 paired devices

Don’t forget the new A12 CPU in it.
Yep, I have the first 1080p ATV. Works great to this day but something faster will be appreciated. But the remote operating all my HT devices is very enticing. $179 is not much considering that basically less than the price of a Logitech HT remote.
