Since I haven’t seen it promoted anywhere, I’m assuming the remote doesn’t have a U1 chip and work with Find My. I’m also assuming the new AppleTV doesn’t support Spatial Audio. Those both seemed like no-brainers to me. Swing and a miss. Especially at that price.
I came here looking for info on the new remote having AirTag functionality built in, thanks for bringing it up. Maybe they're surprise us at release time. Or maybe Apple will be Apple and add it next year once we've all bought this newest model...

Sadly, the new Apple TV 4K only has 1 GB Ethernet. HDMI 2.1, 10 GB Ethernet and ... an A14 chip - that would be the ultimate streaming machine

The benefit is Apps. With the TV, you're stuck with what it ships with (most likely). With streaming, you never know what the next hot app might be that you can install to get that one special channel or game...
A lot of low to mid-end TVs (and some high end TVs) have Android TV or Google TV. That has a very rich app ecosystem. It's not as slick as Apple TV, but it works fine. And some apps that are paid on Apple TV are free on Android TV (albeit, again, not as slick).

LG's app ecosystem is also quite rich, for streaming apps at least. I assume the same is true for Samsung, although I don't know for sure since I don't have a Samsung TV.

Uh, what? What video do you stream at 2000 Mbps? Apple TV+ doesn't even break 50 Mbps.

Yep, I have the first 1080p ATV. Works great to this day but something faster will be appreciated. But the remote operating all my HT devices is very enticing. $179 is not much considering that basically less than the price of a Logitech HT remote.
Just FYI, Logitech has exited the remote business.

What? This doesn't make any sense. "Source" devices like the AppleTV or a Blu Ray Player don't support ARC or eARC, it's a feature of the TV.
If the AppleTV had ARC/eARC couldn’t audio be routed to it to play over wirelessly connected AirPods or HomePods? I bought a pair of HomePods, and they sound great, but still haven’t decommissioned the old audio as I still need it for TiVo.

I wish that was A14X or M1 on A12 is not much of a upgrade over the A10X I think A12X would have been better

For what? What really do you need out of a streaming box with a m1 chip? To play mobile games on?

Yes, and this is somewhat devastating to the A/V enthusiast market. I have a Harmony Elite and absolutely love it. With Logitech exiting, the market now consists of ultra-expensive solutions requiring professional installers like Control4, more basic universal remotes that offer a fraction of the functionality of the Harmony, and complicated DIY projects likely requiring knowledge of coding. Harmony was by no means perfect, but they'll be sorely missed. Hopefully someone else comes into the segment and is able to offer similar features, ease of use, and price points that Logitech did.

Biggest thing is the new remote.

Thank god the old Siri remote is going away. The new remote looks great - keeps Siri and touch controls, but makes the touch not required for basic input. The iPod-like scroll wheel for track jogging looks like an amazing upgrade.

Will be buying a new remote for my current-gen 4K as soon as they're available.
You know, I'm thinking. $60 for a new remote, or just go ahead and buy a whole new ATV for $180/$200?

So, do I just buy a new remote for $60, or go ahead and buy a new device for $180 and figure it's got a $60 discount?

I honestly can't wait to see if eARC is indeed supported. I was very critical with my colleagues that the AppleTV was NOT the better TV device (the 4K Roku Ultra was massively better in quality than the Apple TV 4K). With all the stats coming in, it's looking like the new Apple TV will be crazy hot!

Well, $180 is 3X the price of $60.

That said, while I definitely won't buy a new Apple TV, I probably won't buy the remote either. I use a Harmony remote anyway most of the time and just use the Apple remote for scrubbing, because it's way too slow now to scrub through a video on Apple TV in most apps, using the basic FF and RW buttons. Note that this behaviour changed when Apple introduced the Siri remote. They updated the OS for the new remote, but diminished the functionality of the old remote and Harmony remotes. With later iterations of tvOS, scrubbing with the basic commands usually takes a very long time.

I'm wondering if new iterations of tvOS to support the new remote will change the scrubbing behaviour again back closer to the way it was before. If it does, then I can just stop using the Siri remote 98% of the time.

A couple of months back I went out and bought the last two discounted Logitech Harmony Companion remotes I could find in Toronto, to replace two of my Harmony 650/665 remotes. But then I read about all the problems around the new year with iOS 14 for people setting up new hub-based Harmony remotes, and I didn't like the fact the Companions had only 3 activity buttons and no screen. So I returned them and just picked up a backup 665 for cheap, which works fine for my needs. The Elite was too expensive and there was no stock anyway.

Recently got a newer Samsung TV and it has AppleTV baked in, not really sure what the benefit is as newer TVs that support 4K HDR, HDMI 2.1 already have Netlifx, Amazon etc. built in. For older non-smart TVs I can see the appeal of an Apple TV but a FireStick Lite is $20.

Is there any advantage to this new Apple TV over an Xbox series X or PS5 with apple tv app installed?
Apple TV offers higher bitrates than on the Apple TV app.

If you have a large movie collection, Apple also has iTunes Extras on the Apple TV, but not the app.
