Rumors suggest that Apple is working on an updated version of the Apple TV that's slated for launch later this year. Information about the upcoming device that was found in Apple code indicates that it will be equipped with the A17 Pro chip.

There have been multiple rumors about a new Apple TV coming in 2025 with a new A-series processor, but it hasn't been clear which chip Apple would use until now.

The A17 Pro was designed for the iPhone 15 Pro models, but Apple still makes it for the iPad mini 7.

The current Apple TV 4K has an A15 Bionic chip, so the upgrade to the A17 Pro will bring substantial performance improvements. The A17 Pro supports Apple Intelligence, plus it can run console-quality games with advanced graphics effects.

Little else is known about the upcoming Apple TV, but it is expected to get an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. Apple might introduce the new Apple TV in September alongside new iPhone models, but it could also be held until later in 2025.

I have the latest one whatever version it is and it still works terrific. Flies through any plex file. Paramoun and Disney streams look spectacular etc

The only thing this thing needs is to support bitstreaming instead of sending everything as PCM. And that's a software thing.

I use plex on my Xbox instead of infuse on the Apple TV just because of this. My movie shows DTS-HD instead of boring old "PCM"

Spec bumps are nice sure. But 120hz is not needed and there's not much else it is used for as a function. It's a stream box.

Nice to see Apple continue using the N3B process. They really are able to extract every dollar from silicon NRE costs by using the design from high to low unlike other companies.

Honestly just give me an option to disable the status indicator light and I’d be happy.
I use a piece of brown electrical (PVC) tape. It dims it considerably, but still allows me to see it.
Mine is behind a bunch of dusty old crap sitting on the dresser in my bedroom, so the light is never bright. Sometimes being a slob has its benefits.

A facetime camera or pinch and pull controls in a...Pinch, when you don't want to grab the remote, would be cool

I demand Apple creates a pipeline for AAA video game ports to Apple TV. From mobile/ Mac to Apple TV. As Apple TV gets more powerful, it becomes a priority port. Of course, these are first steps towards a full fledged video game console I am eagerly anticipating.

Honestly…the next Apple TV should take on the form of the Peloton Move Camera (which is really close to the Beats Pill…).

Has excellent form tracking…and in theory can run apps…so leverage the camera for better Apple Fitness and FaceTime…

…oh if this happens…I’ll stop posting here and start my own company.
