Just had this thought. Apple could reduce the price of the Apple TV by selling the remote control separately.

Current US prices:
Wifi 64GB - $129
Ethernet 128GB - $149
Siri Remote - $59

New prices (w/o remote included):
Wifi 64GB - $79
Ethernet 128GB - $99
Siri Remote - $49 (reduce by $10)

I will upgrade soon and I don’t need yet another remote control.

do people actually buy this these days? most TVs now have smart features that include app for AppleTV....

Apple needs to do a lot more. They have milked their customer loyalty for 10+ years and people are getting tired.

Have you used both and compared the usefulness?

Apple TV’s are hands down objectively the best streaming device on the market, close second being the nvidia shield.

The devices take several years to slow down and show signs of aging. Your TV, isn’t built for that kind of longevity. The hardware or the software.

Letting your tv only be a TV will probably prolong the life of your television and prolong your happiness with said television.

Also, one screen across every tv in your home, because it’s using the same interface is a convenience factor that cannot be understated.

In recent months Apple seems to have “broken” my 4K AppleTV with the Beta and now release version of iOS 26.

My YouTube app now shows fields out of order or does odd flickering when I have dynamic frame rate on. When I turn dynamic frame rate off it also still has subtle odd frame flicker.

I’ve adjust all my TV settings to no processing but the issue still persists. When I use the Vizio’s built in YouTube app the picture is fine.

Bottom line: I don’t trust Apple anymore to deliver a basic working streaming box.

Unless Apple can fix the current product I won’t be buying any upgraded units.

This is really sad for me because I like the interface enough and the built in Apple photos functionality a lot.

It won't have a lens on it like that render does, that's for sure.
not even for FaceTime ? I would prefer a seperate camera to hook up to the Apple TV for that . I was hoping they would develop a camera to use for TV FaceTime instead of a built in camera. But, who knows, we'll see what they come up with.

Broke? its a beta... it has bugs... if you depend on reliability, NEVER install a beta. Apple didn't break it, you did.

My dream would be fore it to have an RS232 port to be controlled or control another device. But it is highly unlikely a device at this price point would have that, plus the fact that it would only be used by people in pro AV.
And if anyone is asking, yes RS232 is still a standard for control in AV on pro grade equipment.

RS232 is so niche these days, your best bet is a USB dongle.

Yes. I tried using Samsung's Tizen OS that came with one of my TVs... it SUCKED. Super un-intuitive.

So I attached a FireStick 4k I had lying around. Huge improvement, but my mother-in-law kept making inadvertent Amazon video purchases.

So I switched her to my Apple TV 4K (previous gen). BIG difference. Everything looked better on the same TV, UI was MUCH easier to use, and access to our (large) family photo libraries and content is priceless.

I've been using the Google OS on my living room Sony TV for years now (it is pretty good), but as soon as Apple releases the latest one of their Apple TV I'm in.

If you're in the Apple ecosystem and don't mind the cost (it IS pricey), I think it is worth it.
