Surprised there are that many that play music on their TV. I've had an Airport Express hooked to my TV for almost 10 years. It's a far superior way to play than through the TVs limited speakers and I can stream to it from any device, iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, etc.
WOW! You weren't kidding about being "old school"!

Apple TV4 is a step backwards. Seriously Apple - It took you years to come up with this?
No one wants to talk to the remote. People watch TV so they don't have to talk to anyone (or anything).
The white interface is basically blinding. There's a reason why the billions of TV OSs created before it used white text on a dark background.
The Netflix app is basically unusable. I don't know how Netflix signs people up with that horrible interface.

It's a little sad that you consider voice commands to be actual conversation. It's even sadder that you watch tv with people to not have to interact with those around you. As for the interface? Blinding? Okay then.

Wow. You sound like the ultimate authority. Especially the part about the "billions" of TV OSs. Hyperbole much?

Thanks for telling me that I don't want to talk to my remote. Actually, I LOVE the Siri remote. I have owned and custom programmed professional universal remotes for my home theaters for years, and the first order of business I have after unboxing a new piece of HT electronics is to get it programmed on my universal remote, because I find having multiple remotes annoying. But the new Siri remote is one I don't mind having around. Why? Because it's smarter than 95% of the remotes I have ever used. Including the Harmony lineup.

I love the new, lighter interface. Netflix interface works just fine for me (especially since I usually use my voice to find what I want).

If you hate the ATV4 so much private message me, and I'll make you an offer for it.... :)

Very disappointing Siri only works in five languages. Not very impressive for a multi-billion dollar company. Fast forward to 2019 when they add a second batch of languages.

Why did they ship and unfinished product? Very unapple
Apple care more about selling as much hardware ASAP... than having perfect software. They know damn well that their software isn't perfect at launch. They make it just usable enough to not cause widespread outrage and then put out a 0.1 update, that is always far more stable.

Lucky us. :)

I'd rather have ship and fix than ship and fix a year later. To me this is a sign that TV will get more frequent updates which is a good thing.

Exactly. Its not like they are Samsung or HTC, where what you buy doesn't see updates for 6 MONTHS. Apple is well known to update just days, and often several times over initial release and then continue to update. Most people here just need to get some cheese with their 'whine'..

So far, for me, it's been mostly a great experience. Plex + Apple TV 4 has been awesome, I use the Plex DVBLink Channel to watch live and DVR'd TV shows on my Apple TV 4... I can only see it getting much, much better from here.

Very happy AT4 user here.

I use my Apple TV the same way you use your A.E. Tv's not even on when listening to music. Just when I do want to watch something I get to use the same device for that too. I have it set up so the audio can come through the tv or the sound system, or both I guess... Though I don't ever do that... Anyways I imagine most use it like that.

Ship and fix later provides one of the most begrudging feeling one can get as a customer, because it simply means that they launched the product without doing proper research or critical thinking ahead of time.

I can understand having a game plan to eventually add apple music, or eventually add more siri functionality, (typical stuff apple does - periodic updates); but when it comes to the UI as a whole, you can't ship that **** out later. That just sucks.

Do you own a new Apple TV? Among the many things Siri does, checking sports scores while watching TV is probably something every sports fan does while watching TV.

That's the sad thing, Apple actually was different at one time...
I can't recall Apple not doing that and I have been using their stuff since the Apple //. Even NeXT did it. There was a time when stock and availability times for Apple products was terrible.

Consumer computing has always followed this pattern.

You don't have to talk to the remote, no one is forcing you, the background is not white and apps are up to the developer

I don't understand your logic. Software will never be prefect, there will also be unexpected bugs. The development team is given a date to have something finished if it is not up to par by the time the hardware gets out then it is completely cut out of the release.

How does that channel work?

How about you connect your Macbook\iDevice wirelessly via Airplay to your ATV\Big Screen, Turn on your connected 5.1 Onkyo Receiver so you can listen in DD\DTS mode through your tall-boy speakers & sub - is your way still far superior?

Crazy how this wash available day 1 with Apple TV

The entire point of the new device is Siri, and it doesn't work with music

Still uses an extra device that then draws more power, costing more money and adding an additional step in the process. Seems silly.

Wow, talk about a bunch of whining! Clearly it isn't perfect and OMG how could Apple ship a product that isn't perfect. Does it do what it says it would do? YES and in my experience it does it very well. I am disappointed, I thought the AT4 would bag the leaves in my lawn I mean I paid an extra $100 for it! REALLY APPLE!

Yeah, why would anyone ever want to turn on an extra device that draws more power in order to listen to surround sound 7.1+ audio when they could just listen to their blu-ray movie soundtrack through the tv's built-in speakers... silly people.

And I just happen to think that's a terrible way to run a business. My logic is simple, you just don't agree with the premise. I would rather have no product than to have one that cuts corners or removes functionality which could be finished but instead is omitted due to lack of thorough brainstorming for a more intuitive approach. If that "intuition" happens to become incorporated into the product over time then I consider that an insult to any buyers of the product. Hardware is one thing, software updates are another.
