Well it looks like both of you will be pleased with a new box coming this month or next
and the jury is out on which one will the new remote.
Maybe both of you will love it???

The price I think we can all agree on will be enormous in comparison to previous versions and Apples market share will shrink as Roku & Google/Android TV’s and devices will mop up the lions share of the market.

Only those with deeper pockets and the few that stretch them will get the new one but I predict unlikely to be as many using the Apple TV in future because of price.

Again I hope I’m wrong. But Apple do seem intent on fleecing their customers and blaming a variety of factors on this. Some rightly and some not so.
We should know either Wednesday, by then of next week or next month. 🙏

For those who didn’t like the next-most-recent AppleTV remotes, here’s what I did:

Comes in a variety of colors, I chose red. Solves all remote problems for me: small size, slippery metal (silicone case has a rubbery feel that does not slip), includes a lanyard for those who REALLY lose the remote to seat cushion cracks, protects against falls onto hard surfaces, all functions still available. Bought from The Amazon, $9. Has lasted six years so far with no noticeable wear.

There are also lots of similar cases for the new remote as well.

Feels like the market for this is ever shrinking given TVs come with better and better built-in Smart features now?

I sold my 2022 model a couple of weeks ago. The only real benefit for me was the photos app which is a tiny feature to spend 200 quid for the privilege of.

I’m not hating on the Apple TV itself; I just find it difficult to justify given you buy the TV for quite a bit of money as well.

I wonder why they haven’t just launched an actual TV. It just seems like a no-brainer with a huge market.

I have a Google TCL TV in Apps Mode and its so so so much better it is a total game changer for me and the usability and simplicity for all that use it.

But if the New Apple TV came with a Freely App and some deeper integration with the big streamers plus some other tech improvements & the Siri stuff that's coming it would be unbeatable value compared to what it is now the best but most expensive and not the true game changer device it should be.

The problem is most of them are still crap comparably, and then they get abandoned in terms of software.

The original AppleTV 4k still gets updates. (Which suprises a lot of people I know IRL when TVs come up) Still runs like a champ. The 3 TVs i've bought since with smarts? None of them do. Could it be just those brands? Sure. Samsung dropped updating my first smart tv a year after I got it. It was very weird.

TV, box, or stick, its only good until developers move on.

The problem with "smart tv" instead of a separate streaming box is that the smart tv interfaces are largely abysmal. They're cluttered with crap I don't want, and ads that take over the screen. And none of that clutter and cruft age well. Over time the interface slows down even more, and after an initial time frame, rarely gets updated.

On top of that, there's the privacy concern. Connecting your television to the internet invites the manufacturer to track your viewing habits and poses a potential security risk.

As for Apple making an actual television, the market is already crowded and the profit margins are slim - far too slim for Apple's tastes. I can't see that ever happening.

New Apple TV 4K will be more powerful upgrade than we thought, per leak - 9to5Mac

A code leak uncovered by Aaron Perris points to the new Apple TV 4K getting an even more powerful chip than previously expected.

Originally a new model was rumored to launch in 2025, and evidence pointed to it having an A17 Pro chip. That’s currently the minimum required chip to support Apple Intelligence, so it made a lot of sense and would represent a solid boost over the current A15 Bionic.
But now per Aaron Perris, it sounds like the new Apple TV 4K will get an even better chip than expected. He writes:

We discovered a reference to Apple’s upcoming Apple TV model, AppleTV18,1
Implications being it will have A19 or A19 Pro

The ‘18,1’ numbering scheme echoes the identifiers used by Apple’s iPhone 17 line last year. Some iPhone 17 models had an A19 chip, while iPhone Air and the 17 Pro line used A19 Pro.

Either chip would be a sizable upgrade for the Apple TV. But I wonder if the A19 Pro is more likely to be used because it exclusively supports Siri AI’s most advanced features.

Siri AI is expected to be one of the tentpole additions to the new Apple TV 4K. Considering how long it’s been between hardware updates, I hope Apple doesn’t immediately launch a new model that misses out on some AI capabilities.

I've been running multiple AppleTVs since gen 1 and have never encountered any issues with heat/thermals/etc. I have multiple 4K models all mounted behind the wall-mounted television sets and never had a hint of an issue.

Same, I've had 3 or 4 generations of ATVs, used heavily, usually sitting inside a TV stand with glass doors, and I've never encountered any performance issues. I've also never heard of any other ATV users having thermal issues. Wondering what made that user's experience so different.

This is massively good news if true.
A sub par Siri on the longest delayed Siri device would be laughable.

My hopes for an A17 Pro Apple TV Neo HDMI Stick have raised from “never gonna happen” to “probably never gonna happen”.

Hoping it’s announced tomorrow but I’m thinking the Box will definitely be announced before 31st October 2026.

mine gets very hot and the video starts to show it. Im not sure what the difference is. Ive seen a few people complain on this forum about it also
