I’ll be getting one. People complaining about price must not see its value. I have up cable a couple years ago and even toss an ATV in my bag when traveling. Have four of them. It’s all I use and it’s made my life so much better. If it’d support TrueHD audio, allow audio passthrough, plus the better cpu we’re good.

I don't know if Apple will release a new AppleTV hardware this year but if they do i think our hopes should not be to high for a A14 SoC.

They relesed this year the Studio Display with a A13. I could imagine that the Studio Display hardware needs (audio, video processor) are somewhat in line with what is needed for a AppleTV. As Apple is really good in using the same hardware for different purpose i could imagine they designed the Studio Display hardware to be used as the base for the next AppleTV? It would also qualify as being better then the current gen 4k.

What do you think?

On a sidenote. I would love a 55"-60" Studio Display with tvOS and Center Stage but with the price of the Studio Display at 27" I don't want to think of the price of that.

I realy don't think a M1 appleTV makes sense! It would cost around 499,- (Based on all the other products that are sold with an M1 chip) and then it would comptete with the Playstation 5 and Xbox and be slower. I dont think a Console would work without subsidizing it. If apple really wants to enter the Gaming space they should build on the Arcade subscription and add streaming for more demanding games. It would have the benefit of beinig able to play on all apple hardware.

almost sure not to happen. There are no SoCs that support HDMI 2.1, not even the M2, so it’s difficult to imagine Apple putting in custom work for Apple TV, something they clearly don’t prioritize.
The current SoC do not provide AV1 decode in Hardware.
But doesn't the Macbook Pro and/or iPad Pro support some sort of adaptive sync? That might give us hope.

I've got the 2017 4k Model.

I think I'll wait to see what deals they offer on Black Friday. When they were $199.99 I think they gave me a $50 gift card when I got the 4k. But even if it's only $25 off the $149.99, it makes it a pretty cheap upgrade (even better if they offer $50!).

@DeepIn2U
Seems to me Apple is trying to get more into gaming. :)

Will take time to get near Windows, Xbox, PS and Switch of course. But as long as the hardware and graphics API is there I don't see why it shouldn't work to at least get closer.

I noticed this as well and thought about our earlier dialogue in an older thread.

Fingers crossed.
