I'm sure it's more complex than what I imagine, but I always had the impression that Amazon was all about content, which is why they supposedly "take a hit" on their hardware. It seems like they would want their content on as many platforms as possible.
Again, probably more complex than what I care to think about. I'm cool without Prime and like others have mentioned, AirPlay works just fine.

The first thing I noticed is the scroll is 'un-natural'. Apple went through the fight of changing scrolling on the OS X to match iOS only to put it back on the TVos?

Scrolling is my biggest gripe. Compared to the ATV2, scrolling up and down my own content is just painful ( especially seeing as that part of the UI is unchanged ).

Got my new Apple TV this morning. Like the interface and Siri, but disappointed that Siri won't search my very large local iTunes library, and the interface to my large local iTunes library haven't changed. Why can't seasons of shows be combined and a way to quickly move through the list of shows by the alphabet? Or LET SIRI SEARCH MY LOCAL LIBRARY.

Can someone tell me if this new "tv" gadget is for someone who already has a smart tv with the essential apps such as netflix, hulu, youtube etc.. As well as a video game console. What can you do with it other than download games from the app store?
1. I use Apple TV to access all my iTunes content.
2. I love taking it traveling and hooking it up to the motel TV so my daughter and I can watch TV shows and movies from my iPad.

Has anyone found out if you can do picture in picture on the Youtube app? I've tried it but have not figured out how..
(A small screen showing the clip at the same time as searching for other videos)
It's a nice feature on the phone and iPad.

Honestly if Amazon is instigating this Apple should just come out and say "we'd love to have Amazon Prime on Apple TV" or "any one is welcome to develop apps for Apple TV". Isn't Amazon's ultimate goal getting Prime subscriptions? You don't need Amazon hardware for that. Unless the Fire TV does something special that gets people spending more money in Amazon's ecosystem?

My prime subscription is set to renew on November 18th. I will be cancelling it before it renews. $100/yr isn't worth it unless Amazon is willing to make a dedicated app for the ATV.

The shipping benefit isn't as much of a good deal as it used to be. It's not like I ever order under $35 worth of stuff on Amazon anyway, so shipping will still be free, just a tad slower. Lately the free 2-day shipping has actually been more like 3 days or longer anyway.

Just FYI, I have been wailing on them when they're late delivering. For $100 a year, and all of the business I give them (No fewer than 65 orders a year for the last 6 years) they're going to give me the two day shipping, or they're going to compensate me. I make them give me a minimum of $5 credit every time they miss a two day delivery.

If Amazon really want to become the next NetFlix then it needs to be on every device you can think of, like NetFlix. NetFlix would have never been as successful if they were limited to a handful of devices.

This. You'd have thought Amazon would have learnt by now. It was quite a while before their app was available on any Android device other than theirs, and that must have hurt. It still isn't available on anything Windows. There's pushing your own device, and then there's cutting your nose off....

I am trying now. It doesn't look as if it will be possible.
When you watch a video, it goes to full screen mode only.
I'll keep messing with it and get back if I can get it to work that way.

in my experience the UI is faster then a smart tv even with the ATV3 its faster then most smart TV's so it worth it in my eyes

Wow! So much stuff to scroll on, I'm not sure if it supports folder. I would love if they come up of categorizing apps into certain group like games. Never mind maybe Siri can help launch the app I choose.

I have Amazon prime but only use it for shiping. I can't use the video portion of prime because it does not work on any of my Apple TVs, including the one I will purchase tomorrow. Amazon, you want me to watch your movies? Get on ATV.

Setting the Apple TVs region to US doesn't help!! Probably you need an US Apple Store account as well! Plain stupid, sorry. And I can't connect a bluetooth keyboard, the remot app doesn't work (swiping in a password is no fun!). Biggest disappointment in an Apple product ever.

I hope they update the remote app. I don't see any reason why they can't include Siri in there as well. "Siri, play Family Guy on the Family Room AppleTV."

If you loose the remote and don't care about gaming, then you can just learn in any remote that you have sitting around. In my Kitchen, I have the Samsung TV remote controlling the AppleTV because the arrows don't do anything for the TV when the TV Menu is not up on screen. Then I programmed the Return button for AppleTV Menu.

The new AppleTV can also use any remote, including the old metal and plastic Apple Remotes, and universal remotes. You obviously lose the touch, motion, and voice functionality. But you can still navigate and play content.

Yeah, the one that came with is still white, though. Despite everything, box included is black.

That's what I mean. Black box, remote and actual unit yet the cable is still white

I understand white trackpad & keyboard, most of the iPhones have a white face and the MBP aluminum can go either way but anyone that had a Black MacBook 13" Core 2 Duo remembers how weird it was that we had a black MB but a white MagSafe cable. Seems that hasn't changed.

1. Airplay
2. Apple photo streams / photo library
3. Apple Music
4. Home sharing with iTunes
5. Superior Netflix performance.

100% agree with this. My Samsung TVs "smartness" is pretty dumb. Love the screen, but never use it for anything other than through Apple TV, or the 5 OTA channels I receive.

Just tried to do it via mirroring on the YouTube app from my phone and the same thing happens. The video goes to full screen whilst playing it.
Same thing with YouTube.com on Safari.

I wish the iMac still came with a physical remote.

Funny, once you mentioned I remember that I too owned such a remote but actually never used it...it was the first generation remote that came together with my G5 that time and was made out of white plastic...I still wonder that Steve approved that one :D
