I'm in... Anyone know how long the event will last (60, 90, 120 minutes?)?

So far, we're looking at:

We're beating Android like a drum in iOS acceptance.
ApplePay is the best way to spend money
The most amazing iPhone EVAH!
iPad Pro
Apple TV
Watch OS2
iOS9
Apple Music is the most awesome music streaming service on the planet
Yosemite

Is there any possibility it will be able to import an hdmi signal from your cable box? Maybe even be able to DVR your cable?

Would love to not have to switch to a different input for Apple TV.

My father in law just bought a 50 inch 4K Visio TV because he saw it on Woot.com, and that it would fit in his entertainment center. His old TV had broken, and he asked me if this one was a good TV. For $500, it certainly was. He hooked up his SD(!) DishNetwork box to it, and was perfectly happy with the picture. Then I showed him that the TV comes with Netflix/Amazon/YouTube/Hulu/etc apps, and pulled up a 4K show on Netflix.

It's pretty satisfying seeing someone's jaw drop through the floor. You can opine all you want about how 4k is not a target market for today, but if my 60 year old father in law has one, and it ships with multiple apps that support 4k content (which I can pull up after a 5 second search), then it IS today's technology. If Apple isn't offering 4K content, and everyone else is, then why would you buy/rent content from Apple that's also available everywhere else in better quality for the same price or less?
$500 for a 4K TV means that it is going to be commonplace really soon.

In 2016 you will struggle to buy a 1080p panel from a tier 1 manufacturer e.g. samsung, lg, sony

No 4k hardware support will be an epic fail. I can understand no 4k at launch though...

Universal search is needed. But I hope it's not what Apple is fully banking on given that Roku has this already.

I imagine if they open up the ATV to an appstore, then Amazon, Google, Plex, etc would all work. Of course, Apple will no doubt want a piece of the pie - so I am sure that a requirement from other content providers will be that if the purchase goes through ATV, then they get 30% (or some chunk). But that users can also pay for things via web and just watch on ATV. For this, I am sure that Apple is banking on the fact that by using the universal search to discover content, users will be too lazy to go buy on the web and just download via the app. So even though Apple may lose some revenue, they are still getting a piece.

4k not critical. App store and more home automation (homekit) are going to make this thing take off. The current UI needs drastic improvement. I hate how menu-driven everything is, but decent search capabilities should make that a non issue.

Already being excellent at searching, by using a skill called typing via that rare component known as a keyboard, Universal Search has less appeal to me :D

Why would Amazon want to be on Apple TV when they are trying to push their own hardware and services. Too many competitive issues going on here and besides... is there any content on Amazon that you can't get other places or is it just a price thing? If it's just a price thing, maybe we'll see some better pricing alternatives from Apple for iTune based video's? That's due for an overhaul to be more competitive.

why is it on my iPad, iPhone, Roku?

I have Universal search on my new Tivo and I really like being able to easily see if a show is available on a streaming service and go straight to it.

I'm hoping for the iOS Air Video app on Apple TV.

Im not a Plex user but understand that it needs to keep the library in sync. Air Video lets you navigate your existing folder structure real time. It transcodes other file formats and streams well. No syncing. No nothing. Just click and play. It's as easy and effective as anyone could ever hope for. Is there any advantage Plex has over this?

Plex is like Apple Music app, it displays cover album, imdb rating, cc option etc. nicely on your tv vs. going thru a folder of files.

Not b.c their is a lot of content, but b.c it does not make sense to produce both 1080p and 4k of your top sets. Not to mention most 4K sets you buy today are literally just a resolution bump and lack HDR, and the new color rec.

Streaming 4K? I still find that like streaming HD....it pales in comparison to physical media. They do need the HEVC codec, which will benefit everyone and require less bandwidth.

true enough. 4K Bluray with HDR will once again push physical media to the fore for those who care about quality.

BTW, HDR 4K TVs are still high end.

2016 - 4K TVs commonplace, 4K HDR TVs dropping to mid tier.

Apple giving you 4k support in a $150 device, or let you connect an external HD so you can play your dvd/bluray rips?

This is Apple we are talking about. When have they given you so many features for not much money?

And I am not sure why some people here are excited about the new ATV. Most of the new features have been available on other boxes for a while now.

... oh and Siri has become a poor relation to Google voice search.

I'm hoping when Plex is added as an app.. That Plex library shows up in search results. I think that would be awesome!

I don't understand why you would want Plex on an Apple TV when you can just share your iTunes Library. I ripped my entire film/tv collection and put it into iTunes and now share it across my ATVs.
