Apple offering the same amount of money back for Series 4 as they do Series 3 is a kind of eye-raiser to me. Especially considering that apart having more storage, a compass, and an always-on-display, the Series 4 is essentially the Series 5. In terms of SOC and all.

I’m sure the trade in units are going to a crusher, and not the resale market. In light of that, Apple doesn’t much care about the actual functionality. In effect they are just taking a functional unit off the used market.

Do you just send them the watch face or do you have to include a band and charger too?

I’ve used the sample units on display before. They are amazingly fast by comparison. I’m actually glad I’ve held out so long. The series5 is the most meaningful upgrade to date, IMO.
Agreed on the series 5 upgrade. Along with the other bits, the always-on display makes a huge difference. It's no longer "look, (pause everything for a second waiting for the display to light up), read time", it's just "look, read time". And being able to glance at it without raising your wrist. I held out with the S0 until this summer, then was thinking maybe I should upgrade, then they came out with the S5 and the always-on display was a totally unexpected delight. Jumped fast on that one.

This "Up to $100 for Series 2" is BS. They are offering $60 for a stainless 38mm. This makes me think that the only way you get the $100 is if you're trading in the $1300 ceramic "edition" version from this generation.

The damn thing is worth more than $60 as a paper weight.

Before this current change, I went through the trade-in screens for my S0 just out of curiosity (before getting my S5), and they cheerfully offered to recycle it for me. It still works just fine (still looks good, too), so I put it in a drawer for now - I'll probably give it to my niece when she gets an iPhone of her own.
