I need face ID. And some kind of system where I can do stuff with my eyes. When I work out, I sweat, and my fingers get wet, it makes navigating the watch (such as pausing and restarting a workout) difficult sometimes.

I think a notch may make the watch a little weird, but censors underneath the glass should make it good. Come on Apple... chop chop

Apple Watch development IS SO @#$ING SLOW. They have painfully spread three product cycles worth of actual improvements over a full decade. I had such hopes for this product, but it's mind-numbingly boring at this point. If only Apple provided hooks for actual competition, this might move faster. But they don't.

the code suggests that 2026's Apple Watch lineup will be a considerable upgrade more broadly. The new series is identified as "Watch8;" the Series 9, 10, and 11 are all identified as "Watch7," pointing to a significant departure from previous models in 2026
Got it , don’t buy the aw series 11, wait for series 12

They'll really do anything except improve battery life won't they? AW needs all the help it can get - especially on cell.
Which watch has LTE with the ability to make voice calls that lasts longer than an Apple Watch Ultra? Just curious. Also, what are you willing to give up to get longer battery life? What is your minimum acceptable operating time on battery for voice calls? Streaming music?

This sounds very interesting. Looks like some major changes are coming next year for the watch. Hopefully these features are not reserved for the Ultra only. TouchID, I think will be on the side button.

You know what? You're right. I don't know what I expect - I mean, innovation? From Apple? I'm clearly in need of a reality check.

Seriously I'm not sure what you get out of going to bat for Tim's multi-trillion-dollar operation.

Apple’s C1 chip is designed to be very power efficient, but it still takes a long time to get to the point where that will be enough to provide a meaningful increase in battery life on a phone call (the new lower power low data rate may make streaming, mail/iMessage, and notifications lower impact, but we will have to wait and see). My point is that there is no one who offers something substantially better in the space. You refuse to say what you are willing to give up to get more battery life, and what would be enough battery life for you.

Easy to sit here and say that Apple should just be able to do something, with no evidence that it is possible, nor with any actual thought as to what you would give up to get what you want.

Seriously I'm not sure what you get out of going to bat for Tim's multi-trillion-dollar operation.

I prefer the trade offs they have made so far, and I do not want them to give up perforce and weight to build a fitness watch that is too underpowered to be a good sport watch. I understand engineering tradeoffs, while it seems that you do not seem to accept that design is all about those decisions.

Huh, I had been in the market for a new watch, I was waiting to see what came out this year.... my old watch's battery won't make it through the day.

But I really don't want a brand new 3 year old recycled pile of components which is what everything is pointing to.... so if next year is coming with a bunch of improvements, I guess I'll wait.
Agree, after 3 Apple Watches since they launched I'm going to a Garmin. My better half went first and loves it, 8 days battery too.

Fun fact; a new Apple Watch battery won’t get you through a whole day.

There is a way to have a Apple Watch battery to last a whole day; turn off aod, turn off raise to wake and no gps tracking.

I think the only time I enter my passcode on the watch is when I install an update.

The "Unlock with iPhone" option negates it.
Just wish phone/watch/mac mini/ipad and MBP all mutually unlocked! And did so without demanding passwords regularly.

I'm well aware this would not suit everyone but I live alone in a house. Have an unlocked device very near a locked device simply isn't going to happen. Especially if the watch is unlocked, being worn and it detects I am alive, and/or the phone has recently been used with faceid.

Not sure how often Touch ID would be useful on the watch since it unlocks with phone. Touch ID on the phone, on the other hand, would be very useful.
I’d love it to make a comeback but unfortunately that dead horse has sailed.

Face ID is so transparent to me I don't even think about it when I pick up my iPhone or iPad.

The "unlock with Apple Watch" feature on macOS can be a bit hit and miss though. Otherwise works fine.

Touch id is not a game changer to upgrade from my ultra 2 gonna have to do better than that Apple .

Curious which Garmin your partner got? What is you partner’s usage pattern (things like how many notifications a day, if any, how many and how long are long are the GPS workouts a day? Does you partner always carry a phone when using the watch?)?

My series 6 made it through the, with AoD on and GPS tracking for my workouts. I would charge it in the morning when I was getting ready and charge it for a bit before I went to bed. My Ultra and Ultra 2 both easily make it well over 24 hours, making it so I only charge it in the morning while I am getting ready.

Face ID seems highly improbable.
1) It seems to not only be significantly more expensive than Touch ID, but also take up significantly more space, which will either make the watch bulkier or have less space for battery. So the money cost and space cost are likely too high. It may also use more battery.
2) It may be more convenient than Touch ID, but only slightly. This may add up to be significant in a phone which you unlock many times a day, but a watch is only unlocked once or maybe several times a day at most, so the convenience value is not nearly as significant. And if you are actively unlocking your watch, it probably means you want to use it which means you are going to touch it anyway.

In other words, both Touch ID and Face ID on AW have diminishing returns to an extent, but Face ID is significantly more diminishing, so I don’t think it’s likely any time soon.
