Face ID is so transparent to me I don't even think about it when I pick up my iPhone or iPad.

The "unlock with Apple Watch" feature on macOS can be a bit hit and miss though. Otherwise works fine.
Yes - Face ID works fine most of the time.

But it doesn't work on an iPad mini without Face ID! Which is one case where mutual unlock from my watch or phone would be good.

And I keep finding devices insisting on me entering a PIN or password when I don't think that should be needed.

Curious which Garmin your partner got? What is you partner’s usage pattern (things like how many notifications a day, if any, how many and how long are long are the GPS workouts a day? Does you partner always carry a phone when using the watch?)?
Happy to fill in the blanks.
Iris generally works out 3-4x per week. Often its 2 bootcamp type activities and two runs. Usually 1 run is 10-12k, the other more of a pacing run @5k. With the Apple Watch she'd sometimes take the phone if running somewhere new to avoid getting lost. The garmin vivoactive 6 is the model she has. Its not their hardcore version by any means.

She has only had the watch a week and yesterday was her first bootcamp with it. ~70 mins was about 6% battery life.

I have no idea on notifications, my guess is she's probably like me and disabled 90% of them. It also has a ping to find the phone as well if you've left it on the sofa or somewhere else.

There is also "Garmin Pay" on the watch as well.

I'm going to go for the Garmin 970 I think next time. More than an Apple Watch but a better product I now believe.

I don't see the point of this. They're running out of feature to add, I suppose. I just put on my Watch and swipe up to unlock my iPhone with my face and we're good to go for the entire day.

My Ultra 2 is already great. I just want a lot smaller bezel to maximize that screen even more, longer battery, and new health features for tracking blood pressure and blood sugar levels which are becoming increasingly important as I get older.

What I would really like to see the most is expanded hands-free control gestures. The finger tap stuff is cool but I think they could take it further. I want to be able to select different options like being able to choose whether I want to snooze or stop an alarm. Or to be able to scroll up or down through things, especially notifications without clearing them all accidentally. Or being able to select something to open it to view more, or some kind of gesture to open Notification Center at all without swiping down, hands-free.

For now, I've had the Ultra 2 for two years and I can't imagine feeling compelled to upgrade for several more years at a minimum. It would really have to be something crazy or multiple new health features and even then I might wait a year after.

Just because it is updated yearly doesn’t mean you need to buy one.
And Ultra hasn’t been updated in 2 years …
Of course not, I don’t upgrade yearly. Heck, I held off for 5 years last time and could have held off longer.

The problem is that it is functionally not upgraded yearly, just rebranded. The Apple Watch is on a 2, sometimes 3, year upgrade cycle. You would push more consumers to upgrade on a 24 month upgrade cycle, possibly increasing sales.

You’re taking about the S.E.?

That’s not true as a general statement. They do upgrade it yearly for the most part. And even the S.E. doesn’t get a yearly re-brand.

The S.E. no, and the Ultra they missed a year, but in general the watch has yearly upgrades.

Correct, and I am lobbying for them to skip yearly upgrades given the fact that they just rebrand the same device. The Apple Watch S11 for instance, is the same as the S10.

The series 11 isn't out yet.

Are you saying that the S10 and S9 are the same? That is incorrect. Apple has a comparison feature here:

Yes, it’s the same device with a water temperature detector as that comparison shows. If we’re going by the rumors, the S11 appears to be the same as the S10, which is why Apple now talks about “generations” with Apple Watched as being 3 years. Best to just skip three watches per generation and keep it to one or two.

Well they're all the same then if you don't consider the differences. All laptops are the same. All cars are the same. All phones are the same. All iPads are the same.

I do agree that every 3 generations is typically a larger leap. I don't buy ever year, nobody is forcing you too either and I hope you're leveraging that self control.

That doesn't make them the same device though.

I suppose offering a new color is different, but it’s still just rebranding the same device with no performance improvement, redesign, battery improvement, etc.
