Do we know if the new one still has only 3GB RAM?

We don’t know yet. Apple never reveals the RAM unless it’s a selling point (iPad Pro, and Mac). I hope someone can let us know soon. Maybe using Xcode like every years iPhone?

I think the point was just to get a more efficient chip in there so they can remove the fan and go to passive cooling. That makes it cheaper to manufacture so they can lower the price (and finally discontinue the ATV HD since they can offer this at an even lower price point).

Expect the CPU in this thing to be downclocked as it doesn't really need all that processing power to play 4K video content anyway.
Finally someone gets it!

So the nvidia shield 2019 pro still will excel with anything plex or emby which has DV multiple profiles and HD audio passthrough capable capabilities. Streaming wise, apple tv is ok. Also lacking with shield and where apple shines is frame refresh rate.

I never use the ethernet port on my Apple TV 4K second generation.
For stable in-house streaming (Infuse) and as a Homekit hub, a wired 1000mbps line is quite desirable. But otherwise for web use, WiFi is indeed fine on it. I don't get why those people are upset given how little the price difference is between the two "tiers".

What’s impressive is that for this money you get a device that outperforms every Android phone chip on the market. Not only on performance, but also on efficiency.

It's impressive for sure. I wonder if these A15's are identical to the phone A15's, or if they are binned and have less GPU cores and slower clock speed?

Seems strange that they couldn't fit an A15 into the new iPad which has been fitted with an A14. Maybe they just had more A14 chips left over than A15's?

Preordered one yesterday. Seems like I finally get my AppleTV 4k with A12X like performance, albeit being two years late... Planning to replay Oceanhorn 2 on it, several updates to the game after my first play through…

Preordered also the 128 since I needed a new one and the 2021 version will go to my parents.
However what Apple is still missing or ignores is Audio passthrough!!! WHY???

Has anybody an idea if HDR10+ is an 2022-Model exclusive feature or if it is also available on the 2021-model via software update? That wasn‘t really clear to me yet…

That’s fair, I’ve never been a serious iOS gamer so that makes sense.
Serious is a big word but games are entertainment and fun. Playing titles on AppleTV with 4 joypads is quite funny and at a fraction of the cost of a console. Also iCloud saves are quite great you can play on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and then tvOS with. same progress. Potential is here, we will see.

I’m totally happy with this upgrade. I was constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul when it came to storage. I like playing Arcade games and I like having ambience apps. Both of those take up so much space. Yes I know I can, and I do, find all kinds of ambience videos on YouTube, but I like to have the apps for offline viewing when the internet is down. My current tv 4K 2nd Gen is hardwired so I would’ve gotten the Ethernet version anyway. The 2nd Gen will continue to be used because my Mom will use it. And the 4K 1st Gen my Mom is currently using will go to my sister. I think the price is awesome!

Since there is no other A15 device with 3 GB of RAM, I would say that it has, at least, 4 GB.

Yeah…that’s the way I see it too:)
Looks like we guessed correctly. This article seems to confirm the new ATV’s have 4GB ram:) I just put in my order for the 64GB version and will be returning the Gen2 ATV 4k that I bought last week (unopened still in the shipping box) for $109.

Impressive? Nah, it's basically a new model with a different chip that does nothing that the previous model can't already do. I love my AppleTVs, but this is far from an impressive update.
Agree. This new model can’t do anything my ATV 4K 2017 can’t already do with the exception that it supports threads if you buy the 128GB model. Gaming should be put in a gaming device like the Sony Playstation and not in a video streaming device. It just drives up the price but still delivers way less gaming ability than the PS. Apple is just too damn cheap to design a true gaming device so they screw up the price point on the ATV 4K models. Plus they cripple the damn things with a POS tvOS.

TVOS works fine for me, my parents, my brother, and millions of others.

What about those of us who don’t want dedicated consoles? I love being able to play the games I’m already playing on my iPhone and iPad on my TV. Arcade is awesome!
