Increased storage makes no sense to me when you still can't store purchased Apple TV content on the device locally.
I'm reminded of how the Studio Display has 64gb of storage with its A13 SoC. For what? My guess is that it likely boils down to the standard configurations Apple produces for their SoC's. With the A15 SoC in the new Apple TV, it likely has very little to do with what can be done with that storage on the device. I would love it, though, if recent streams could be cached to reduce data usage.

I currently have 3 HomePod Mini's that currently are connected through WiFi (I'd assume). I don't think my router supports Thread (or if it has to support it - Asus XT8).
Will adding a Thread-capable AppleTV do anything to make things/the HomePods better or respond faster?

It's a bit unclear to me what it actually does.

Save 10% Off using discount code SEP23CCSAVE10 at Best Buy! Works on other apple products as well.
I just tried to use that code on the 64GB version of the ATV Gen3 at Best Buy and got this message: Sorry, but the promo code sep23ccsave10 is not eligible with the item(s) in your order.

respectfully disagree.

ATV4k 2022 will be indistinguishable from ATV4k 2021 in practice

I suppose gaming will make a difference if you do that on your ATV not sure about anything else

Agree. This new model can’t do anything my ATV 4K 2017 can’t already do with the exception that it supports threads if you buy the 128GB model.
Dolby vision videos at 60 fps is new to you. (Not to 2021 owners)

This one of those things where next year, tvOS is gonna get some update that’s exclusive to this model, and everyone is going to complain and ask why their 2017 or 2021 model can’t do it.

TVOS works fine for me, my parents, my brother, and millions of others.
Does it? You always cry about it screwing up on you and blame the Wi-Fi connection. Just because you chose to drink the Apple juice doesn't mean you are correct. tvOS 16 is clearly a bug fest with lots of issues, and the ATV 4K is clearly an Apple device that is purposely kept below the standards of other devices from competing companies.

I was having router issues as I have not had to reboot ATV since 9/11.

I am still rocking an ATV 4K 2017 with a A10X CPU, so I guess an upgrade to the A15 results in a noticeable improvement

One design goal of matter was to avoid requiring an internet connection.

Can someone tell me what the differences are apart from the upgrade on the A10X to the A15?

I just use it to stream 4K HDR on Disney+ iTunes, Netflix and Prime.

Preordered one yesterday. Seems like I finally get my AppleTV 4k with A12X like performance, albeit being two years late... Planning to replay Oceanhorn 2 on it, several updates to the game after my first play through…
Precisely my thought! I was so disappointed in the A12 of the last unit. I guess I’m one of the few who plays games on my Apple TV.

Impressive. A15 chip. 128GB max storage. USB-C remote. But with all apples efforts to improve the ATV sure some will complain. Also it starts at $129.
I think it’s an awesome machine at this price point. If they would add a USB-C port to it and let it run macOS, it would be a fantastic ultra-low-price Mac mini. The problem is though that it runs tvOS and the actual benefit of having it compared to the previous Apple TV models or even the built-in OS that comes with your TV is still questionable. The lower price point does make it a lot more tempting though.

Personal preference here, but I want the primary TV to look the best it can, so removing WIFI from the equation is desirable to me.

Even the highest quality 4K streaming on Apple TV+ barely reaches 30Mbit/s. Most other services don't even go that high. If your Wifi can't handle that, you could consider looking into why it doesn't. Maybe you just need to fix positioning or add a repeater to the setup.

There are still some heavy duty use cases that require Gigabit Ethernet connection but ATV really isn't such a case so Wifi is really fine.

I steam purchased movies.

Again, just a personal preference. If my router happens to be three feet from my TV, I’ll skip WIFI as a link in the chain.

Same. My router is right behind my TV and within a foot of my ATV4k '21. Might as well use Ethernet. I have an Ethernet adapter that I plug my Ethernet cable into and it allows my TV to get the full speed of my system...over 330Mbps down. I have to use WiFi on my bedroom TV. While it generally works well, there are times where I will get some buffering. It happened during the MNF game last night. It eventually cleared up but in the family room, I don't want to mess with WiFi if I don't have to. But nothing wrong with WiFi if it works well for you.
