Seriously? It's obviously useful. The issue has been that it's too unwieldy so far, but once Apple or someone else makes a pair of glasses that is no bigger than ordinary glasses, it will take off like a rocket. It can do everything an apple watch can do, without you even having to raise your wrist.
As someone who wears glasses, even the regular glasses is not something one will put one willingly unless there is a real benefit in doing so. In most cases, I will prefer to raise my wrist (the phone actually, I am not a big fan of watches either) a few times per day to wearing the glasses all day long. I can see how the glasses may be useful in some especial cases (MS Hololens comes to mind) but not much else.

would really love to be able to read a single thread here that doesn't have some post trying to bring the notch into it.

Read some of the ATV+ threads, I don't think they mention the atrocity that is the notch there.

Nobody wants these. Please STOP!
On the contrary, once they get these completely worked out and streamlined, so it looks like normal glasses, but can overlay relevant/requested information "right in front of you", I totally want these.

The problem, of course, is that'll probably be 5th or 6th gen of this tech, and there's no easy shortcut to get there without doing 1st/2nd/3rd/4th gen versions first.

Nice.

If AR Glasses has some functions the same with Apple Watch this might cannibalize Apple Watch.

as a cyclist, I would love to have some AR glasses that overlay my next turn on top of what I am seeing in the real world. Sometimes street-name signs are poorly located or missing which can be frustrating when I am trying to stay on course and moving. I use a Garmin bike computer, but sometimes the map is challenging to read under some lighting conditions.
If an AR heads-up display had a transparent "turn here" arrow that starts small in the distance and grows the closer I get to my turn, this would be the bee's knees!
No interest in wearing bulky VR glasses; I can see those as great for movies, and games, but I don't have enough time for that.
Now glasses that could do AR-heads up display, then go all-black & cinematic for watching movies, that would be special (for me at least).

People like me who already wear glasses need a clip-on device. No one wants to wear two pairs of glasses.

I don’t even want a clip on device. I’d love to see the cameras aid the lenses so I can focus close and far without the need for bifocals. A kind of dynamic prescription version. And then add a 3x zoom 👌

I’ve been an Apple user for 20 years, and all I can say is Apple is falling way behind. Google is taking over the smart home by offering so many useful products in the Nest line, and the pending release of the Microsoft Duo/Neo leave me wanting more from the iPhone/iPad. Apple needs their own line of smart home products, not some AR glasses.

I thank this article for killing my GAS for the latest iPad Pros :D

I still have the 10.5 one and will wait for the 2020 version

I can only imagine this taking off if Apple is able to use this tech on established glasses brands. Or if Apple can create cool glasses that are actually sophisticated, not bulky and well designed and not this awful goofy prototypes We see in this and many other articles.

I love technology, & Although cool, i personally don’t need or desire AR on my ipad or phone. And i don’t think i’d walk around with AR glasses. But thats me. Innovation is still fun. If AR is the big update on the 2020 ipad pros, i don’t see a compelling reason to upgrade. I wasn’t planning to anyway. I use my current 11” ipad pro as a laptop replacement. I travel with it, and edit all my photos & videos on it. I also draw on it with the apple pencil 2. Works beautifully for all I need. I can wait a couple more years at least. IF however Apple drops an ipad mini Pro... I’ll be all over that.

This thread is going to be the most fun ever in about 5 years. Just like that "iPod is garbage" thread and all the "iPhone will be useless" threads.
... not to forget the “Who would want a WATCH anyway? And for such ridiculous prices!” laments in these forums. The more criticism you read here, the more successful a product is going to be.

AR has and will continue to move slowly, however we are getting closer, and, it will replace phones once the micro-technology is here. Tiny silicon, electrical systems, cellular, bluetooth, internet receivers, cameras and other sensors to embed in the spectacles' frame. Translucent films that can be embedded in vision correcting lenses to project ultra-definition displays on literally any surface. Why would you carry around a phone with a minuscule (relatively) screen if that is available? Apple will hire top notch spectacle designers, looking exactly like and most likely exceeding the looks of the modern glasses of whatever era it will be, and consumers will lap them up like water. Cannot wait.

Wearing the glasses to 3D scan an object, person, or room could be cool. There should be an obvious recording signal to show people your are scanning or recording. The worst thing about glasses would be secretive scanning or recording.

Wearing the glasses, can they make an immersive movie or tv show experience.

Virtual meetings can lead to virtual trips. In Apple maps, choose a spot, put on the glasses and you're there.

Perhaps the iPhone can track your movements and facial expressions and, wearing the glasses, you can attend a virtual meeting (in the Matrix) and see other people.

I am pretty sure you won’t be able to capture video or images, so there will be no need to worry about “secretive” anything.

It should be doable with 5G speeds.

I am talking about 3D scanning. It could scan a face, right. A 3D scan. People won't like that if it is secretive.

Apple could set-up virtual locations on iCloud servers and people could have virtual meetings.

Why wait when you can have 3D scanning on your iPad right meow?

From the listing: "the silver Occipital Structure Sensor 3D Scanner attaches to your Apple 9.7" iPad Pro and iPad Air 2, allowing you to perform 3D scans, capture augmented reality, and obtain measurements quickly."

If you're interested in seeing this in action, here's a video of it scanning a teddy bear using a turn table:

It is cooler when integrated into the iPhone and glasses.
