Anyone else having bill issues?

Mine isn't wrong but is over a week late.

I switched to the new plan but elected to have it start at the beginning of the next billing cycle, so nothing needs to be prorated. The last time I made a plan switch mid-cycle, the billing was royally messed up. I'm hoping they'll get it right this time...

In addition, they double dipped on february 4th. They charged me the full $100 for the 10gb plan (which is fine) AND they charged me a prorated charge for 2/4 for my old plan of $3 plus a prorated charge per iphone line of like $1.XX.

I haven't seen my first bill yet but when I changed over I was told that there would be a full charge for the new service and a prorated charge for the partial month so the first bill would be higher than the subsequent bills.

Weird! And nice!

Yeah, they didn't credit me $25 per line as advertised...they charged me $40 per line. They also charged me some pro-rated charges even though I switched on my bill cycle start date. Finally, I told the rep that taxes were applied to $40 per line as opposed to $15 per line. She talked to her "manager" and ended up crediting me $130 to make it right.

They said their systems weren't prepared yet to give the credits. I was not happy about that statement. I politely explained how that is not the consumers fault, and AT&T should really get their crap together BEFORE launching new rate plans.

I had similar billing issues with my plan. My idea to just make it clean and start the new 10GB Share plan with the next billing cycle seemed to have caused a lot of problems. After an hour on the phone first talking to a rep and then a manager, things were finally resolved.

The issue is with how they work their billing. It's always been this way.

Technically, you pay for your month of service IN ADVANCE. It doesn't seem this way, but you do.

So when you get a bill, the bill of say $200 is for NEXT month's service. You already paid for your current month of service last month.

So when you start a new account, say in the middle of a billing cycle, they set a billing date in advance. You get billed for the prorated portion of this month that you haven't paid for yet ($100), plus next month's service ($200). Thereafter, your bill is $200.

Now lets say you make a change in your account in the middle of the month. Now instead of $100 per month, you go to a $200 plan. You can either backdate the change to the beginning of the month (make it so it is as if you changed plans at the start of your current month) or make a mid-cycle change.

If you backdate it, it's pretty simple. They credit you back the charge of $100 that you had paid for the current month, then charge you the $200 for the new plan, plus the $200 for the next month. So when you get your next bill, it's $300 ($200+$200-$100). That's the $200 for your current month plus $200 for next month minus the $100 you already paid for the current month.

If you make the change effective mid-cycle, now things get complex. You have to prorate the charges. So assuming the change is exactly in the middle of the month: You have already paid $100 for the current month. You have used half of that month, so they credit back $50 to you for the unused portion. For the rest of the month, you are on a $200 plan, so they charge you $100 for that portion of the month, as well as $200 for next months service. Your next bill is now $250 ($50 for the first half of this month + $100 for the second half of this month - $100 you already paid + $200 next months service).

It's a pain in the ass.

Just thought I would mention this since people were asking...

For those who's contract was renewed before 02/13/14 they are allowing you to switch to this plan with the $15 per line price. Any future subsidized upgrades will bump that number to $40 per line (or require next).

The FAN discounts is on the first line (the $100, or larger if you have a larger data package), so that should be incredibly easy for most to calculate.

At the end of the day, this would be cheaper for my family for the first year while we are locked in contracts but still being allowed to take this promotion. After that honeymoon period this is no better (maybe worse, since two of my lines have unlimited, one of which sits around 5GB a month) than what we currently have.

No, I'm right. There are countless treads here of AT&T throttling Unlimited Data people.

You can choose to believe what you want, but they, like every other corporation, doesn't "care" about you. You are a number. They will stop Unlimited Data in the future. No matter how much you spend, once they decide it's over, it's over.

LOL at "multiple lines" meaning two. Two. Yeah, they would close up shop without you.

They can certainly do that (get rid of unlimited - though not while people are still signing contracts. I am safe with one of my lines for, at the least, another year and a half, the other, about eight months). Or they can keep moving towards making it cost prohibitive for people to keep unlimited. There are a lot of people, in this very thread, mentioning that with how little they use, this new plan structure makes it worth it for them to bail.

I am close, sort of, but I use enough on one of my lines to make it worth still sticking it out with the unlimited. By the way, I HAVE been throttled once now, but was still getting data plenty fast enough to stream even video. Mileage varies for various people. But if you figure the unlimited data plan is actually $30 for 5GB, that means I would still like to see the $100 shared plan starting at 15GB.

Their costs of service have become a lot more reasonable, and this is directly due to competition. I think that's a wonderful thing, and am personally all for it.

By the way, if they enacted data rollover, I think that would be a show stopper. Add that to their current plans for no additional cost and you will see grandfathered folks flocking over. I pretty much guarantee it. And they really have no reason NOT to do that! I am sure I am not alone here in that I use more data when I am on vacation, or during the holidays. How nice would it be to be able to use those GB you paid for during the slow months during the times your family uses their phones much more heavily? Hell, they could even round DOWN (let's say you use 8.1/10GB, you get 1GB rollover) and people would eat it up. Did I mention show stopper?

----------

FYI, throttling unlimitied data ≠ FORCING people to switch to shared data. You're getting AT&T and Verizon confused.

While it is entirely possible that it could happen, it doesn't seem likely looking at AT&Ts history and how they've handled this kind of situation in the past.

AFAIK, Verizon isn't forcing anyone either. They are simply not allowing them to use an upgrade. I admit it is a much more strict approach, but still not a forceful move.

At the end of the day, Verizon is in th abetter position. I don't believe there are any contracted folks left with unlimited plans. They could literally turn that plan off tomorrow with zero legal ramifications.

Sure. You can always buy phone off Craigslist eBay for cheaper than the $650 retail. But those phones aren't without risks.

They are same people who could be on installment plans who elect to stop paying their device payments. Than u end up with a zapped dead weight cause ATT will block the used phone from being used on their network.

I took that comment as to say "you can buy elsewhere... as in other stores"

target and Radio shack had some good discounts, if I recall correctly, around black friday. More recently, best Buy as well

Is the christmas rush worth the headache to save $50-$100?

Guess it all depends.

I am just happy I live near the NH border now. Tax free is close enough to a discount on a $650 device. :)

So I dumped VZW today for AT&T. One line, unlimited talk, unlimited text, 10GB for $115. Couldn't pass it up! I notice data still has that annoying slight delay before transferring, but once it gets going it does seem a bit faster. As long as I don't get a dropped call everyday like the last time I was with them, I'll be happy. If I don't like the service, I'll just go back to VZW with no ETF. :D

I read this post, and I got a chuckle. I remembered the days when I was constantly getting dropped calls with AT&T. But now that I think of it, I haven't had a dropped call with AT&T in years! I almost forgot about that insane experience. Don't know when exactly I stopped experiencing dropped calls, but I don't have them anymore. Anyone else???

Strange. I've always felt that AT&T was all around faster than Verizon. My wife and I have both had identicle iPhones but different networks for the past 2 1/2 years, so I've been able to compare them side by side.

Don't know when exactly I stopped experiencing dropped calls, but I don't have them anymore. Anyone else???

In my area AT&T really started improving about 2 years ago. I used to get dropped calls and unusably slow data on my 3GS, but shortly after I upgraded to the 4s, it drastically improved. Then about 2 months ago they flipped the LTE switch on in my little town and it's faster than my 35 Mb cable service at times.

I'm a happy camper.

About a year ago, I was ready to smash my phone into dust. I was so frustrated with the dripped calls, and slow data speeds. I notice better voice quality on Verizon though. Additionally, just yesterday,I dropped two calls! the first time in a while this has happened.. one of the calls had 5 bars when it dropped. Again. I was surprised...

The switch went into effect three days before my billing cycle ended. AT&T included a $138.50 credit or some such so that I was actually charged for the $160 plan price, less an employee discount, for the entire billing cycle, rather than the $290 normal price. Basically, they treated me as if I had been on the lower priced plan for the entire cycle rather than only the last three days of the cycle. Pretty awesome.

So I have full bars but my down rate is about 1mbps on 4G. In LTE, I dropped 50% battery from 1am to 9:30am with only usage being the siriusxm app for 30 minutes. My reception was better than vzw here in San Antonio. Phone dropped 30% overnight idling.

On VZW I dropped MAYBE 5% overnight here. I disabled LTE and charging back too 100% to see what the drain rate is. VZW has a bad idle drain here but again the reception is much worse. I'm going to monitor actual db reception, too.

The only dropped calls I get is when I make calls into Manhattan on ATT, unfortunately. And, it's not my phone.

Signed up for this plan last weekend after being fed w/ Sprint inconsistent service and I'm pretty happy with the plan and the much better service.

Things seem improved after a reboot. Db is -92 on LTE but I'm in the bowels of a hospital research floor (no windows for at least 50' in any direction). Went from 99 to 94% with 45 minutes on battery and 25 minutes of usage. Battery app shows a drain rate of almost 350mA.

So I got my new bill this billing cycle. I had the plan take effect immediately on February 2nd (I called in on the 1st).

For the additional lines it's $40 for the line, $25 credit, and then taxes, to a tune of $17.08

Interesting for my main line, my FAN discount is before the credit for the off-contract phone.

So $100 for the 10GB Share, plus $40 for the line, then my discount on the $140, then a credit of $25. I guess I save a couple dollar there too!

The only thing I don't get to why an tablet like my iPad is $10 whereas my MiFi is $20, when they use the same data pool. But I guess that's for another topic.

Has anyone got the same result with their FAN like this guy above? That the discount was ALSO applied to the $40 smartphone line.

Btw alphaod, how many lines do you have on your plan?

My bill isn't viewable yet, but my total is 115 for two lines. I like it.

Exact same issue here. I tried to simplify things and made it worse.

It seems that switching mid-cycle is now the preferred route. It used to be extremely painful. Congrats.

Cool. Probably varies from FAN to FAN, nice that you got an extra discount.

What are you seeing for per-line taxes and fees?

No they won't. AT&T takes care of their loyal unlimited customers as well the others. Any and every AT&T contract, no matter how old is valid until the user terminates the contact. I know, two of mine are ten year old unlimited plans that I've upgraded phones on every year. I pay on time, and AT&T is happy to have my business.

Wow, someone is clueless. Unlimited will eventually disappear. And the above statement is just completely false.
