I'm sure Ive came up with several designs before *STEVE* approved the one *HE* wanted. So, NO! WE DID NOT GIVE CREDIT TO THE WRONG GUY! sheesh! Ive is GREAT and I love him but let's not go over the top please.

It took Steve Jobs to pick the right designs from Ive

I look forward to reading. I think its good to get insight into the people of whom so many of my favourite products have been designed.

maybe it will suck, maybe not - I found the Job's book very good.

He should be praised for such incredible decisions as a glaringly blinding white on off white OS with no option for a dark theme or night time use. Also that awful calendar where you only see dots and have no idea what your month entails. Blinding white dialer, check. Blinding white notes, check. Blinding white email, check.

In all seriousness though he's a genius for the iphone 4/4s and 5/5s designs, one of the few truly beautiful phones out there in terms of design. I just wish I could see the phone, but the white is blinding my eyes....

This book should be designed the way this genius would have designed it:

  • Remove his picture and have just a traced bald head icon...no color fill for the icon.
  • Use only flat pastels on the cover. Preferably no more than two. Keep it simple.
  • Make the book completely round and hide all of the complexity as to where to open the book (inspired by his round iMac mouse. Genius!)
  • Use a hidden release mechanism to open the book, so that it doesn't fly open when carried across a room. This should require plying discrete pressure on the center of the book, to open it, but not on the sides, where it could happen accidentally
  • Cover the book in a thin sheet of glass, front and back. It should shine.
  • Like the slippery iPhone 5c, embrace this touch aesthetic. The book should feel like a polished bar of soap. Can also double as a huge hockey puck, without requiring a frictionless surface.
  • Use an advanced polymer on each page to create a glass-like gloss. Each page can also double as a beautiful mirror-like surface, capturing light with requiring much.
  • Like most physical objects, pages are too skeuomorphic. They look too much like pages and have annoying affordances such as turning them. The book should have a revolutionary design that makes the printed page un-pagelike, and turning them should be a modern gesture: wave your hand over the book right to left, and the pages slides into place using just the air current generated by the gesture itself.
  • Use Helvetica Neue only, esp inside the book. If people don't squint to see the super thin fonts, you're doing something wrong.

This would be a book worthy of the great Sir Jony!

I love you :apple:

Lol awesome!

It should be released as an ibook only really, seems only fitting!

My ban list is going to grow a lot more from the thread.

I don't think I want to read anything from Leander Kahney. Can't exactly explain, but I find everything he writes quite irritating.

So... should they remove yours as well? By far it's the most negative comment I've seen in this thread. Most of the comments in this thread have been light hearted jabs based on the Jony caricature we've seen lately. Some of them actually made me giggle.

The best part of MR is the variety of opinion. Not everyone is a fawn for Jony. He deserves credit for his accomplishments and criticism for his failures. If MR became 24/7 Apple rainbows and unicorns... well we have appleinsider for that. :)

Enjoy the diversity of the comments and place your positive thoughts on Jony in the thread. Your opinion matters too.

I must say this is not a great book. Obviously no cooperation from Apple or Ive himself and not a lot of new information. And since there's been very little turnover on Ive's team most of the info came from one former designer who was willing to speak. It's a very quick read. The end of the book seems rushed like the author was throwing random stuff in just to make the book current.

Hey guys, this ad for the book mistakenly got published on the front page ;)

yyyaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnn.

Not sure I'd call him a genius. I see nothing groundbreaking.

He seems like he really wants attention now.

You think the above comments are light hearted jabs?

My point is, why are they even commenting? They have no interest in this book, so move along and comment on something else that does interest them.

He calls it a "cult." How is that not mocking?

Apple was known as a Cult back in the day when they were just selling computers. They had a select few who chose not to use windows. Because of Apple market share the small number of users stuck by Apple and their products.

Some people just won't accept the fact that Steve was basically a motivational speaker that helped flourish the designs from the creative team in which he took credit.

Kind of reminds me of those artists that pay young artists to create art/paintings and then sign their name on it as if they are the creator.

I'm interested in the book, just making a simple observation.

I agree that ever since I upgraded my iPad to iOS7, my eyes feel tired quickly.

The marketing for the book still irks me:

http://www.loopinsight.com/2013/11/14/jony-ive-book-looks-good-just-lighten-up-on-the-marketing/

"Did we give credit to the wrong guy?"

Not sure, but I do know that plenty enough other people did (and do) not get any credit for Apple products.

Look's like the worm has turned and "Jony" now wants a bigger slice of the cake than he has previously been served, now Steve has gone.

I have nothing against Jonathan Ive myself, I actually look forward to seeing him acting all ridiculous in some of the Apple product video's. I am sure he cannot keep a straight face after the camera stops rolling.

He is probably the UK's 2nd best design engineer after Adrian Newey, but I agree the marketing is pretentious at best.
