Not sure, but I do know that plenty enough other people did (and do) not get any credit for Apple products.

Look's like the worm has turned and "Jony" now wants a bigger slice of the cake than he has previously been served, now Steve has gone.

I have nothing against Jonathan Ive myself, I actually look forward to seeing him acting all ridiculous in some of the Apple product video's. I am sure he cannot keep a straight face after the camera stops rolling.

He is probably the UK's 2nd best design engineer after Adrian Newey, but I agree the marketing is pretentious at best.

Jony had nothing to do with this other than being the subject. Perhaps you can take him to task for promoting RED products and the design collaborations that he did with Marc Newson?

And for the record, Jony is noted as an Industrial designer, not design engineer; which are very much different disciplines.

I was actually expecting a 'bite' in less than 11 minutes it took.... ;)

Bizarrely, the Jony Ive biography appears to be categorized in "fiction and literature" in the iBooks store.

Not to be confused with Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman which appears in the "biographies and memoirs" section.

Genius?

I think the work genius is questionable when you look at the SH! tty iOS 7 GUI.

I was an Ive's fan, until 7. Now I loath the moron for ruining iOS. FORSTALL!!! Come BACK!

It's not a mistake. Look at iOS 7

"The Genius" behind Apple products? Without OS X and iOS, Ive's designs would just be pretty boxes. It took a whole team to make these products. Hopefully the book is better than the cover phrase.

Not sure I'd call him a genius. I see nothing groundbreaking.

Might not be a bad idea to get your eyes checked.

----------

It took Steve Jobs to pick the right designs from Ive

You know, I can sit there taste test a bunch of different dishes in a restaurant. When I find the dish I like best, it makes me a genius regarding food. The chef deserves minimal to no credit.

----------

And then he designed iOS7.

If you ever spent a day designing UI, you would know that for all of its faults, iOS7 is absolutely fantastic.

Now, is it better than iOS6? Is it better than the Android (sans crapware)? Those are different questions.

You think the above comments are light hearted jabs?

My point is, why are they even commenting? They have no interest in this book, so move along and comment on something else that does interest them.

----------

I think my comment stated "most of" the comments were light hearted jabs. I mean seriously, how can you not read the post by Jon the Heretic and not appreciate it for what it is? Funny, creative, and light hearted.

I get your point, but forgive me, it's a little wrong - just a little. Everyone who has commented has an interest. Maybe no interest in the book per se, but an interest in the subject of the book.
If one truly had no interest they would do as you suggested.

It's all good. Even if someone is being mean spirited so what? Jony won't lose any sleep and neither should you.

You cant do that

You cant make a biography by interviewing ppl like classmates and other ppl that have seen someone from afar. That's just stupid: a less intelligent person (no offence) than someone like Ives CANT understand and comprehend his actions, choices and details of his behavior if he is not of the same intellect class.

A smart person that eats looks just like a normal person that eats to someone who has no clue. Or worse, the smart person looks "weird" or "dumb" since they do things differently. Replace "eat" by any verbs.

So this book, to Ives must be the most frustrating and innacurate thing in the world. "They just don't get it, therefore dont explain it properly". Just like Google copied the iphone and got it all wrong, they just didnt know what they were doing and understood WHY some things were done the way they were.

He's done some nice designs but he is definitely no genius.

It's not rocket science.
It's your typical minimalistic design.

Sure there are people out there that are useless at designing, but that doesn't make Ive unique.
What does make Ive unique is the fact that Apple let him design for them and Apple IS a unique company.

Hmm...I've gone through all the posts in this thread and I think I'm the only one who's actually read the book (doesn't take long). As I said in a previous post it's not a very good book, mostly because the author had no access to the subject or any current Apple employees.

Really the only interesting tidbit I got from the book is that Ive is dyslexic, and the name of his boys: Harry & Charlie.

Why is the Kindle version of this book $17? I'm flattered I'm worth this much, but really.

(Also, the iBooks listing for this book has no paragraph breaks in the summary description. Unacceptable from a design standpoint.)

Not available in the UK iBookstore yet, boooo :-(

I wanted to buy Scott Adams' new book the other day, and that wasn't available either. I was about to type 'at least I can pre-order the Ive book', but actually, who the hell wants to pre-order an eBook? It's not like an eBook is going to go out of stock, there's no pre-order discount (as far as I can tell), and there's no sample.

Love Jony's designs the minimal sleek uncomplicated approach is to my taste.

After iOS 7 I feel this guy needs a slap on his face (Tim Cook does too). The experience with the product isn't thanks to this moron, more like thanks to the software team. I can turn off the lights in my room and all I see is a screen that I interact with, the hardware design could be anything (I could be dealing with an elephant shaped iPad or iPhone and I wouldn't know). Credit goes to whom designed the software, that is, Forstall and company. iOS 7 is just a pathetic theme (not a UI change). The software experience which remains somewhat intact after the iOS 7 is thanks to other designers/developers whatever you may wanna call them. Ive is far from being a genius.

You should consider some anger management therapy. Seriously.
